Audio CD problem on laptop VGN-SZ61MN
Is there anyone out there who has installed FreeBSD on the above Sony laptop ? Both ''cat filename > /dev/dsp0.0'' or ''vlc cdda:///dev/acd0@1 are OK. If I run ''cdcontrol -f /dev/acd0 play'', there is no sound. But the output of ''cdcontrol -f /dev/acd0 status audio'' is alright. (same behaviour for cd0 instead of acd0) And the output

wav to flac corruption
I have exactly the same problem. I encoded a BWF file to flac and then then decoded back to wav, using --keep-foreign-metadata, and I ended up with a bit-perfect copy of the original BWF. So I was fairly confident that the flac encoding is working correctly, the problem definitely appears to be with the flac players. Unfortunately it seems that the majority of flac players cannot play 24bit

Hey all, When I run my scripts to manage my ungodly slow school connection, I get messages about the quantum size being small and suggesting a r2q change. What is this all about, and should I do anything? my link is effectively 45kBps and I have it set to limit to 42kBps. Lag when playing freeware games
I switched to Linux recently and one of the biggest things I miss from Windows are freeware games such as Spelunky or Desktop Dungeons. So, I got Wine and downloaded those games, thinking they should run great and I'll be happy in Linux-Land. The problem is they lag an ungodly amount, making them unplayable. Spelunky is a lot worse than Desktop Dungeons, which I guess I could suffer through,

lmtp: Error: mmap failed with file ... dovecot.index.cache: Cannot allocate memory
Hello, I have a mailbox with an ungodly number of small messages in it. When new messages are delivered lmtp kicks up an error like the one below. I tried raising the vsz_limit for lmtp but that didn't see to help. Any ideas (besides deleting 400k messages)? Thanks! dovecot: lmtp(6068, user at example.com): Error: mmap() failed with file

A couple of bugs...
Hello together! I've found a couple of bugs with current compiz git, most of them related to the use of KDE and wanted to let you know. 1. kde-window-decorator crashes every now and then. This seems to be especially often when starting kaffeine media player, but not exclusively. I've attached a backtrace, though I don't know if it is useful in this form... 2. Resizing a

How to properly install VLC?
Hi all, My colleagues and friends from time to time send me .wmv files and I'd like to be able to view them under CentOS. VLC was recommended to me, and AFAIR about a half year ago I tried installing it. I don't remember the exact details, but I do remember that the Red Hat and Fedora binary distributions didn't work without giving all sorts of errors. I _think_ I then did a

Swfdec and Ffmpeg only
Hi, I'm the founder and still very active developer of Puppy Linux, and a variant named Quirky. Puppy is a cut-down distro, typically 100MB live-CD. We have always used the Adobe Flash player, though I have stayed with the Flash 9 player (9.0.48.0) due to its smaller size. Puppy also has ffmpeg, xine-lib and gxine. Recently I have been experimenting with Swfdec and Swfdec-mozilla. I started

Possible bug in nss_winbind with ad backend and rfc2307
I ran some tests to see why getent passwd was not enumerating my domain users and discovered this: If I getent passwd <username> it returns the user information including the primary group defined in the Unix attributes. If I add a Unix GID in the idmap config range to the domain's Domain Users group and getent passwd, it returns all of my domain users with all of the Unix attributes as

I would guess about a third of the liveness memory
