init 6 works inconsistently in XEN
I am using Centos 5.2 as both my XEN host and guests. Both the XEN host and each XEN guest are up-to-date with the latest CentOS 5.2 updates. I've noticed over time that sometimes using init 6 (or init 0) in the guest works flawlessly and other times the guest will reach "Restarting System"/"System Halted" and hang. When this hang occurs the only way to finish the

Wrong samba version in C5.2 updates?
Hi, the latest upstream version of samba rpms for 5.2 is samba-3.0.28-1.el5_2.1. In the Centos 5.2 updates tree there is only samba-3.0.28-0.el5.8 which also is already part of the 5.2 os tree. Could it be that the updates tree just carries the wrong rpms? Best regards, Bernd

Any Known Share limitations or performance issues with large file systems
All, I am running samba-3.0.28-1.el5_2.1.x86_64.rpm on RHEL 5 x64. I am sharing out approximately 7TB via samba and a 'few' of my users are complaining of latency when accessing their shares via Windows Explorer. Mind you the disk is about 93% full which I am sure is a factor but before I go into battle I wanted to make sure there were no known limitations or issues. Thanks in

head scratcher update
perhaps my mind isn't working today. I'm trying to update a system that hasn't been updated in a while which I believe is CentOS 5.2 but it's possible that it's 5.1. I am pretty sure that it has php installed from CentOS-Extras and when I do yum update, it's stumbling on php --> Finished Dependency Resolution Error: Missing Dependency: php-common = 5.1.6-20.el5_2.1 is

tomcat errors starting after upgrade from cent5.3 to 5.5 (/rebuild-jar-repository: error: Could not find)
We just upgraded Cent from 5.3 to 5.5 on a bunch of servers with little to no issues (kudos to you guys) except on a few servers where it appears we are having a problem w/ the Tomcat upgrade. Previously our application server was working fine under 5.3 with Tomcat/Java installed as such: java-1.4.2-gcj-compat-1.4.2.0-40jpp.115 java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0-0.30.b09.el5

We are running Centos 5.2 (2.6.18-92.1.22.el5) with XFS installed for the /share partition. I currently have these versions of samba installed: samba-3.0.28-1.el5_2.1 samba-common-3.0.28-1.el5_2.1 I am pretty sure the ACL is all

Bug in yum Logwatch reporting
I've been noticing yum updates on several servers I manage over the last few weeks, which I know I didn't perform and could not explain until this morning. At first I suspect a break-in, but found no other evidence or reason an intruder would run the yum updates I was viewing. Yum updates are logged in /var/log/yum.log, which is what Logwatch scans. Seems that the format of the log

Samba spawning excessive smbd processes.
Hi, We're running Samba (3.0.28-1.el5_2.1) on a Redhat (5.2) server using winbind to authenticate against a Windows AD. This all worked fine for a while. But now we have the problem that (some) users coming from Linux clients cause an excessive amount of smbd processes. We had 1 user who had more than 1700 smbd processes all coming from the same client. While on the client side there
