moving software RAIDed disks to other machine
I just replaced two md-raided (RAID1) disks with bigger ones and decided
to check out how far I get with them when I put them in another machine.
The kernel boots and then panics when it wants to mount the root
filesystem on the disk.

NFS issue
Hi List,
I must be going mad or something, but got a really odd problem with NFS
mount and a DVD rom.
Here is the situation,
/dev/md7 58G 18G 37G 33% /data
which is shared out by NFS, (/etc/exportfs)
This has been working since I installed the OS, Centos 4.4
I have a DVD on that is device /dev/scd0, which I can mount anywhere I
like, no problem.
However, the problem

If you do have an issue with fail2ban, it does pretty much the same thing.

Hosed my software RAID/LVM setup somehow
CentOS 5, original kernel (xen and normal) and everything, Linux RAID 1.
I rebooted one of my machines after doing some changes to RAID/LVM and now
the two RAID partitions that I made changes to are "gone". I cannot boot
into the system.
On bootup it tells me that the devices md2 and md3 are busy or mounted and
drops me to the repair shell. When I run fs check manually it just tells

Dovecot 1.0.something rpm for CentOS?
Is anyone using successfully a specific rpm of Dovecot 1.0.something?
There's nothing on dag and a few on rpmfind (for Fedora Core), but I don't
know if they'd work. The one coming with Centos 4 (0.99.11) has quite a
few bugs and I'd like to put an upgrade on top of it.

Reassemble software RAID
I have a machine on CentOS 5 with two disks in RAID1 using Linux software
RAID. /dev/md0 is a small boot partition, /dev/md1 spans the rest of the
disk(s). /dev/md1 is managed by LVM and holds the system partition and
several other partitions. I had to take out disk sda from the RAID and low
level format it with the tool provided by Samsung. Now I put it back and
want to reassemble the array.

SOLVED - Re: Frustrations with MySQL loss, tcpdump, netstat, etc
Hi Guys,
OK, I figured out the problem, It would seem that Comcast spelling my DNS entry wrong would do it!
I have done this a zillion times, I was totally stumped as to what I would be missing this time.
Thanks everyone for their help.

Winamp 0% Buffering mp3 streams
make sure that your mountpoint does not have a .ogg extention with the
mp3 stream, otherwise, it will try to play using the ogg plugin, and
will stay at 0% buffer

Winamp 0% Buffering mp3 streams
really, it should have no extention, like /stream/1001 for the mountpoint

Sorting of passwd/group files
Is there a program on CentOS which will sort my passwd/group etc. files by
username or uid/gid? On Suse I can do this with a sysconfig switch and
Suseconfig, is there something similar on RH-based systems?

what requires lm_sensors?
I found that lm_sensors got installed because of a dependency on my first
Xen VM that I updated to 5.3. lm_sensors doesn't make sense in a VM. I
thought, ok let's check after the update who wants it. However:
rpm -q --whatrequires lm_sensors
no package requires lm_sensors
(same for --triggeredby with lm_sensors or the packages below)
Trying to remove lm_sensors reveals these packages:

Cannot start sm-client on CentOS
Starting up sendmail I get:
Starting sm-client: can not chdir(/var/spool/clientmqueue/): Permission
denied
Program mode requires special privileges, e.g., root or TrustedUser.
I assume the user used for sm-client is smmsp. However, that user has
/var/spool/mqueue as homedir and I added him to the trusted users list.
FYI, that user has disabled login (which should be okay) and the group has

Installing old Suse as fully virtualized guest: problem with install source
Using CentOS 5.1 with Xen 3.2.
I'm trying to install a fully virtualized system for the first time and
doing this with an old Suse 9.0 (this probably would run paravirtualized,
maybe it won't run, anyway, because of hardware problems).
I start with virt-manager and after choosing "fully virtualized" it
presents me two options for install media: iso image and CD-ROM or DVD,

securing rsync over ssh
I want to secure some remote rsyncs over ssh by using the command= option
in .authorized_keys.
As I understand I can use only the full command there, as it is not a list
of "allowed commands" but the command that will be executed when logging
in with this key.
Now, I'm running several rsync commands on individual directories in the
root, not just one command. I do that to pull

munin stopped working
Just noticed that my munin installation stopped showing any data after the
last "big" update. I installed a lot of updates for CentoS, but there was
also a munin update coming from rpmforge. However, in yum.log there is no
munin listed. But I'm sure I updated munin to 1.2.5-2.el5.rf as well. Does
yum log only the centos repo's?
The problem seems to be with the creation of
