Missing update announcements for C4 i386 / x86_64
Hi,
the latest updates for perl, xorg-x11, net-snmp, openoffice.org for C4
were announced for the ia64 and s390(x) archs, but not for i386 and
x86_64 altough they are available on the updates mirrors.
Also, what is the policy for announcements of updates that occurred
after the C5.2 release? I see them on the update mirrors. Shouldn't
these update be also announced independently from the C5.2

Why are all repos < 5.6 listed?
Greetings all.
I just enabled all repos on my system, to enable me to find
a particular package. This is the first time I have noticed
all the Centos repos < 5.6 being listed.
Is this a new feature, to include all repos pre 5.6 now?
Here's the output of the aforementioned yum command - sorry
it's a little bit long:
[root at karsites ~]# yum --enablerepo '*' --disablerepo

I thought perhaps /etc/dhclient-eth1.conf, but that is not the place...

Centos 5, X dies, I cry
I just installed Centos 5 for my notebook (HP compaq nc4010) on a
separate drive (than this one that has Centos 4.5).
When I first booted after all the setup, X did not start. hmm.
Rebooted, and X came up fine. I did a bunch of customizing and upgraded
the kernel

Rsyncing UPdate repo yoyoing
It has been crazy this past week how a rsync on the update repo keeps
downloading a number of openoffice.org rpms then deleting them. And the
repodata directory seems to be messed up so that I have problems on some
systems doing updates with it. My rsync script is:
#!/bin/sh
rsync -auv rsync://mirrors.kernel.org/centos/5.2/updates/i386/ \
--delete --exclude=debug/

Why CentOS 5.2 is so large?
Hi, folks.
I have download the DVD image of CentOS 5.2. Comparing with the DVD
image of Upstream OS Provider, I got a surprise:
The size of the DVD image of Upstream OS Provider is just 2.87
GB(i386), but the size of the DVD image of CentOS 5.2(i386) is so
large that is 3.74 GB!
I kown that CentOS's developers did very excellent work on how to make
the Upstream OS more availability and add

centos 5.2 for real this time
I did a yum update last night at about 23h15 EDT (-4). No upgrade.
I just did a yum update this morning at about 08h45 (-4). for my system
there's about 348 megs of updates.
Now all I have to do is figure out how to remove OO.o 2.0.whatever which
is being upgraded to 2.3.whatever. I'm using 2.4.1 on my 4.6 boxes
(have always been using the latest OO.o on them since installation a

Kernel panic from install CD
I have a bunch of DecTOPs. Use the AMD Geode chip.
Yesterday I upgraded one of them, and got the dreaded Kernel panic.
Something about powernowk8. I could boot up with the old kernel, though.
I know I have to put in a bug report on this, will do shortly, but first
wanted to try a fresh install on another DecTOP. At the prompt, I
specified: linux askmethod
After it loaded the kernel, it

/usr/bin/id behavior since CentOS 5.2 upgrade
Hi list,
Since the upgrade to 5.2, when I log into my server with a ldap account
I have these 2 errors messages:
-bash: [: =: unary operator expected
-bash: [: -le: unary operator expected
After investigation, the trouble come from two scripts in /etc/profile.d:
/etc/profile.d/krb5-workstation.sh
/etc/profile.d/vim.sh
The problem is with the test where the command "id" is involved,

about python-dbus and PyQt4-dbus? They don't seem to included
after installing PyQt4-4.4, sip 4.4.5, and hplip 3.9.2.
thanks,

AHCI support in CentOS 5.2?
My friend has an external sata hard disk, and likes the hot-plug feature.
However, that works only if the appropriate sata setting in the motherboard
bios is set to AHCI (IDE compatibility and RAID are two other options, but
hot-plugging doesn't work with them). The machine has WinXP atm, while Linux
is about to be installed in the following couple of days.
Now, on wikipedia I read that

flash fails to work on Los Angeles Times website - fix
Hello,
I have a 32-bit install of C5.2 on my Intel Centrino Laptop (2005).
The Adobe flash plugin works fine in Firefox in all cases except on the Los Angeles Times website http://www.latimes.com.
I was baffled by this for a few months, since it works on another 32-bit C5.2 box. When I realized that the only real difference was that the laptop had no LAMP install, and both had the same elaborate

Major update and again no new repodata
Yesterday I pulled down a major update to OpenOffice. But no updates to
repodata.
I waited a day to see if there was some reason for the lag (like more
rpms needed to complete the set), but still today, no repodata to pull
down (my rsync looks for more recent file dates).
Help?

CentOS 5.2 kernel [2.6.18-92.1.1.el5] crashes on dual-PIII Compaq ProLiant 3000
After yum upgrade, the new CentOS5 kernel [ kernel-2.6.18-92.1.1.el5.i686 ]
crashes each time early in boot process on Compaq ProLiant 3000
with dual Pentium3 CPU (600 MHz, CPU0: Intel Pentium III (Katmai) stepping 03, CPU1 the same).
I get kernel panic at powernowk8_init+0x05e/0x1c3.
The previous kernel [ kernel-2.6.18-53.1.21.el5.i686 ] seems to work fine.
I am wondering if anyone has met
