Slightly OT: Dell Poweredge 2850 with 4GB RAM
Hi all,
I got the previously mentioned Dell Poweredge 2850 with 4GB RAM and Perc4e
raid controller. Installation went well and the raid is pretty fast even with
level 5.
However I have another problem now... CentOS 5.2 only sees 256MB RAM. Googling
a bit, got me to install kernel-PAE, this went well, but CentOS still sees
only 256MB.
Googling some more, I found a bios update was suggested and

NFS filesystem recommendations please (and problems with XFS)
Hello all,
I am implementing a new mail server into our environment consisting of
three machines - two Dell Opterons that will act as load balanced
Postfix servers, and a 1.5TB RAID10 NFS server. All three machines are
running CentOS 4.5.
Since the NFS is going to be used for only mail, I was kicking around
the idea to use XFS. I have CentOS installed on an ext3 partition, and
with the

Installing to other than "/" label
I have a system with Fedora installed on the partition with label "/". Can
I install CentOS on a new empty partition (/dev/cciss/c0d3p1), or do I need
to remove the "/" label on the Fedora partition and change Fedora's fstab
to mount by physical partition? I'd like to keep Fedora as a fall-back OS
until I have CentOS completely up and working.
My Fedora fstab:

Web photo gallery options
Hi all,
I'm looking for a web photo gallery for my personal web server at home. Till
now I've done the galleries manually from Adobe Photoshop Elements, but I
feel that is a dead end, kinda', besides the fact that the galleries created
are rather static. I'd like an easier way to do this, eg uploading images in
folders directly to the gallery and it will take care of what needs to

CentOS 7 1708 won't boot after grub2 update
Hi all,
This is the third fresh install of CentOS 7 1708 the last two months that
won't boot after a regular "yum update" just after the fresh install has
finished.
I've never had this problem before, it has just worked.
The installs are on OEM's that have previously run CentOS 6.9 x64.
Am I missing something here?

Backup server
Hi all,
I've built a new backup server for our linux-clients.
Is Amanda the way to go for a backup-solution?
It seems to be pretty powerful, if a bit finickety to set up initially.
The way we currently do backups is to use rsync from the clients to two
folders on an older server that rolls over every other week. This worked fine
for a while, but the rsync is cumulative and the users

OT: Blank mails from this list
Hi all,
I apologise for this off-topic question, but wanted to hear from a
third-party as well.
Recently, like the last week or so, I've started getting blank emails from
this list.
Blank as in no message text is visible in the email.
If I do a ctrl-A however, something does get marked. Evidently there is a
message, just not visible.
This particular list is the only one I've noticed

NIS or not?
Hi all,
We're getting to a point in our linux environment where it's starting to be
cumbersome to keep shadow and passwd-files up-to-date for the users to login
on each computer. Scripts can only get us so far. 8-/
I've looked a bit into central login systems for linux, and NIS and LDAP seem
to be prevalent. NIS being the simpler-to-setup solution for small to medium
networks as

Dualboot CentOS and Windows
Hi,
I have to install CentOS on a spare partition of a laptop with
Windows pre installed. Is there anything I have to watch out for?
Couldn't find anything in the wiki or does the installer handle this
well without me doing some magic, or so?
TIA,
Frank.

Dual-boot with WinXP, CentOS already installed
Hi all,
I'd like to deploy a solution with dual-booting systems where CentOS 5.3 is
already installed and WinXP will be installed to a separate disk.
I found
http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_linux_and_windows_xp_linux_installed_first.htm?page=1
and it seems straight forward enough, although the description is for Ubuntu.
The problem as I see it, is that the how-to differs from how

Linux system will no longer be supported."
Doing some google searches I found this;

OT: Bittorrent clients
Hi all,
Just switched my home computer from Windows 7 to CentOS 6.6 and I'm having a slight bit of trouble with the bittorrent-clients.
* Transmission is fine but lacks "a bit" in features.
* Vuze is my preferred bt-client but gives me horrendous gfx-artifacts, like not showing the torrent name (it's white text on a white background or some such...).
* Deluge is better, and
