combining kickstart and DVD on a USB thumbdrive
Hi all, I am trying to find information on taking a DVD of centos 5.2 x86_64 and putting it AND my kickstart file on a USB8G thumbdrive. Note - I am not INSTALLING linux on the USB disk just trying to make installation media for it. I am not taking just the bootdisk.img file to make the USB bootable but the entire DVD content on the USB and my kickstart files. I'd like to just be able to

Usb thumbdrive hardware Id
Hi Is there a way to attach Usb thumbdrive serial number to mounted drive? I see that there is something in the Winecfg. but it does not seem to either save the serial when I put it. Maybe it is unfuncional. The reason I am looking for a solution for this is that I have Windows app that checks the usb drives real serial number. thanks

Installing CentOS via USB thumbdrive
I've been poking at this for quite a while, and have never been able to get it to work. I've found a couple links with some partial truths: ? http://syslint.com/syslint/how-to-make-a-usb-boot-disk-for-centosrhel-from-iso-file/ ? http://brakkee.org/site/2013/05/09/creating-a-usb-install-for-centos-6-4/ The first one talks about converting a standard iso to a 'hybrid' image, using:?

Custom kickstart post section on usb thumbdrive

I found this: 1. get the ISO file of CentOS 7 2. mount -o loop CentOS-7.0*.iso /mnt/ 3. mkdir -p /CentOS-7-ISO-respin/{CentOS-7-unpacked,CentOS-7-iso} 4. rsync -avz /mnt/ /CentOS-7-ISO-respin/RHEL-7-unpacked 5. put your kickstart file into

USB Thumbdrive + dos ghost boot image + drive too small = confusion
I will really hate myself if this has already been solved, i searched the archives but didn't really find anything pertaining to it. I have a 2.88mb dos boot floppy image, with ghost.exe, dos nic drivers, and dos system files. It works fine when burnt to a cd. As for the thumbdrive when trying to configure this hpghost.ima file to run from my syslinux.cfg menu, it works and boots up fine but

I have another disk (identical model) that I can replace hda with. I know about the commands fdisk to repartion and raidhotadd /dev/md0 /dev/hda1 and raidhotadd /dev/md1 /dev/hda3 (to be ran after the system boots). BUT... how do I now get

PXE boot into rescue mode
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I followed the instructions here: http://nixcraft.com/file-servers/14803-how-centos-5-pxe-linux-installation-server.html, along with a few other sources that were less successful, and I finally got a pxe boot going. I'm using CentOS 5.3 x86_64 media as the source. The server boots, but keeps hanging. Here is my boot line:

boot thumbdrive with CentOS 7 ISO???
The big picture is I'm wanting to boot centos 7 and install kvm. So far I've created on this new laptop a big, empty partition; in the BIOS enabled legacy booting and disabled UEFI; also in BIOS under Legacy Boot Order set "USB diskette on key/USB hard disk" on second priority. I've tried to boot from a usb thumbdrive three times and it failed all three times. I'm

install from USB thumdrive
Hi all Is there a procedure to use an 8GIG thumbdrive to copy the centos 5.2 dvd contents to the thumbdrive then run isolinux (or something like it) and be able to use the thumbdrive as the install media? Seems like it should work, however my machine only has syslinux not isolinux. yum provides isolinux does not return anything. Anyway I was trying to get to a point where I can just stick a

boot problem after disk change on raid1
Hello, I have two disks sda and sdb. One of the was broken so I have changed the broken disk with a working one. I started the server in rescue mode, and created the partional table, and added all the partitions to the software raid. *I have added the partitions to the RAID, and reboot.* # mdadm /dev/md0 --add /dev/sdb1 # mdadm /dev/md1 --add /dev/sdb2 # mdadm /dev/md2 --add /dev/sdb3 # mdadm
