rsync question
Hi folks,
I've been trying to wrap my head around this for a bit, done my googling
and archive searching but I still can't seem to 'get' it.
Here goes:
I've a spare drive in my CentOS5.1 box, which (for testing now) I mount
manually under /mnt/backup
I want to backup the /home tree to that box nightly via rsync (cronjob),
so I tried this:
rsync -avrogz /home/

moving from RH8 to CentOS5.1
Hi all,
Is there a way to 'automatically' recreate users/permissions when moving
from RH8 (yes, I know...way old) to CentOS5.1 or is it just simpler to
recreate the users manually?
Total users on this system is < 20.
Thanks in advance,

Booting from Compact Flash
Hi all,
Advance apologies if this is OT; if so, please mail me offlist.
A client is considering using CentOS5.1 for an embedded project. They
will be booting from Compact Flash.
The CF in the device is being controlled by a VIA VT6421 SATA/RAID
controller.
Are there drivers available or must we truly 'roll our own' when
compiling the 2.6x kernel for this? I've done some

disk partitioning - I'm missing something simple, I think
Hi all,
Excuse the question as I'm sure those more experienced will find it simple.
I've a CentOS5.1 box with six physical drives, two of which are used for
nightly rsync
backups. Contents of /etc/mtab, /etc/fstab, df and a brief narrative
follow:

Sieve include
Hi,
I'm using dovecot 1.2.15 with ISPConfig and Roundcube with sieve plugin.
To avoid conflicts between ISPConfig and Roundcube during script writing
I would use include in the ISPconfig template to use the roundcube script
To simplify this task I'm wondering if there is a way to have a "star
include", like
include :personal "*.sieve";
Thank you

Disabling stock firewall and SELinux for ISPConfig
I have been reading a tutorial on configuring and securing a CentOS 6.2 machine:
http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect-server-centos-6.2-x86_64-with-apache2-ispconfig-3-p3
This tutorial bases the configuration on an application called
ISPConfig. I am not sure that I like the idea of disabling the stock
firewall and SELinux as the tutorial suggests, even with all the
troubles that SELinux has given me

Semi-OT: very weird vi behaviour
This is weird. As in, *deeply* weird.
I ssh as root from one box to another (there are keys involved), and I go
to vi a file, such as
# line 1 #
# line 2 #
# line 3
# line 4
And what I see in vi is
# line 3
# line 4
BUT, if I scroll the cursor over each line with the arrow key... I see all
four lines. I've also looked at another file, and same thing. Just checked
it out on the server I

ISPConfig: Secure on Centos?
Just wanted to see if this tool was approved or disapproved of in the
centos community as far as security is concerned.
http://www.ispconfig.org/
I have noted that anything that is not a centos package is probably
suspect, -so feel free to assure, or warn, at your leisure.
Basically we are looking for a secure GUI based DNS admin tool, (I myself
prefer an openbsd or centos dns machine and tyo

Dovecot auth-worker error after cram-md5 auth
Default it was: "auth_mechanisms = plain login" and I added cram-md5.
After restart all work perfectly. But after I added:
driver = passwd-file
args = scheme=cram-md5 /etc/dovecot/cram-md5.pwd
I can't set default lines because I got error. Please tell me which lines
should be changed to resolve this issue. Should I remove "login" from
auth_mechanism

pci passthrough on RHEL 4.5
Hi there,
I have a Dell T3400 Workstation with CentOS5.1 as dom0. I have hidden
a network interface in dom0 to pass it to domU. The domU can come up with
the NIC when it''s OS is CentOS5.1 or RHEL5. But when it comes to RedHat4.5
, the NIC can not be found.
As I type the command "lspci" in RHEL4.5 domU, it returned:
pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci

It still use:

}
When I delete above and delete "cram-md5" in auth_mechanisms it still not
working.

Dovecot auth-worker error after cram-md5 auth
When I used backup copy of the dovecot.conf file I have this same error. So
I think that maybe something was written to database? I really would point
out that I only added
passdb {
driver = passwd-file
args = scheme=cram-md5 /etc/dovecot/cram-md5.pwd
}
and comment out from above block default lines
#args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql.conf
#driver = sql
And in auth_mechanisms add line
