Installing GLIBC for CentOS 4.6
I'd like to modify pthread library ( e.g. manipulating some functions )
in glibc, so I want to compile and install modified glibc.
However, I failed to compile glibc and need some help. How can I fix the
problem?
Here is the process that I've tried.
1. download glibc-2.3.4.tar.tar from http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/glibc/
2. unzip glibc-2.3.4.tar.tar
3. make build-folder

gettext does not work after glibc update
Hi,
I recently upgraded my system to CentOS 4.6 and noticed that gettext
does not behave as before the update. As soon as I install the old glibc
version (glibc-2.3.4-2.36) instead of the new one (glibc-2.3.4-2.39) it
works again.
See the Attachment for details.
Any hints would be appreciated!
Thank you,
Christoph

yum problem after last kernel
Hello all, I've been googling and haven't found an answer. I have a
Centos 4.6 box that is having an issue since the last yum update. The
nss_ldap and kernel packages were the only packages installed/updated.
When I try to run yum I now receive:
[root at ns1 ~]# yum update
There was a problem importing one of the Python modules
required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was:

I was doing updates on a server and I think that the network connection
got reset. So I guess the yum update didn't complete and I now get this

How to diagnose "Unable to handle kernel paging request" kernel panic?
Does anyone know how to diagnose the error "Unable to handle kernel
paging request at virtual address xxxxxx"?
I got this error (followed by a panic and a crash) on a server
running CentOS 4.4 with the 2.6.9-42.0.8.ELsmp kernel. The machine
is based on an Intel 975XBX2 motherboard (975X chipset). I have
built several of these and they have been extremely stable. This one

X Error: Nvidia Onboard - Supermicro
Howdy all,
Any recommendation as to the right way to config X. Last time I did was
using X86Setup back in OpenBSD 2.7 days.
What's the Xorg tool? How do I invoke it? Looks like I just need to
fix the ranges, maybe they mean sync vert & horiz or something.
Or should I be typing gdm instead of startx?
Any advice? -below are some errors, infos, although the dmesg didn't

Errors compiling wine under Red Hat
Hello, all,
I'm trying to get Wine running on some Red Hat boxes at my University (don't
worry, I have permission!) ... But, I don't have any root access to the
boxes, and I'm limited to installing on my shared (AFS) space. In any case,
I'd probably want it to run from my user space anyways, so that its
accessible from all boxes on the network.

yum update - Glibc Problem
Hi,
I've just done a fresh install of Centos 4.0 on a Via C3 Based system
using the Centos DVD I downloaded a while ago.
Then install goes though fine as does running 'yum check-update'.
However when running the actual 'yum update', it downloads all the
headers but afterwards displays the following errors:-

Shell Script - Compare packages. rpm.
Hi,
I need a script which makes the package compa??o rpm's through two
text files ...
Since a file is the output of the command *rpm-qa > pkg.out *
And the second file is a list of several packages rpm's, multiple
versions and architectures.
My idea is to compare a package *x* file pkg.out with several
packages *y* of the file update.out and know

glibc errors related to nss_ldap or pam_ldap?
I am trying to track down the cause of some errors that have been occurring
on a number of our servers using LDAP. We have noticed that when a certain
LDAP group exceeds 65 users we begin seeing glibc errors for users in the
group. Users that are not in the group do not exhibit this behavior.
We have seen this issue on machines running Centos 4.5 x86 & x86_64 with
glibc-2.3.4-2.36 and RH4

Static linking against glibc
I'm building an RPM of a DNS server called NSD on CentOS 4.4. I'm going to
be using it for some heavy-duty DNS traffic, so I want to minimise its
dependencies on external libraries. I have therefore attempted to link it
statically.
The package does build, and even runs fine. However, during the build
process, gcc emits warnings like these:
nsd.o(.text+0xfba): In function `main':

Right-- Ubuntu Feisty also uses 4.1.2, and fails to build LLVM.
The newer Ubuntu uses 4.2.something and compiles LLVM cleanly.
