missing from Centos51 src tree: ".../drivers/infiniband/hw/amso1100/Makefile"
i'm attempting to rebuild centos51 kernel-xen. (fwiw, because pciback has NOT been compiled into the kernel, http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2767) after, yum install kernel-devel kernel-xen-devel and usual, ln -s /usr/src/kernels/`uname -r`-`uname -m` /usr/src/linux cd /usr/src/linux cp /boot/config-`uname -r` ./.config make oldconfig make menuconfig ... next, make rpm

Module.symvers
I am going into: /usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-92.1.10.el5-x86_64 and doing a "make mrproper" attempting to rebuild the Modules.symvers file. As I added ALSA 1.0.17 to the current kernel. I am getting an error: make mrproper scripts/Makefile.clean:17: /usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-92.1.10.el5-x86_64/drivers/infiniband/hw/amso1100/Makefile: No such file or directory make[3]: *** No rule to

pagecache corruption on Tyan S3870
A couple of months ago I reported some problems with a batch of Tyan K8SSA (S3870) based machines. We are continuing to have an odd problem with these boxes, and if anyone has seen something similar elsewhere, I'd appreciate hearing about it. These boxes are running Centos 4.4 x86_64 with kernel 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp. They are dual Opteron 265's (dual core) with 4x2GB DIMM's. The

Fwd: P5GC SATA mode problem
Hello, I'm top-posting my own thread with some homework I've done, can somebody help? In short, the problem is that kernel 2.6.18-53 (as per 5.1 installation) works OK while any kernel update makes booting impossible in Enhanced SATA mode. For newer kernels, only Compatible mode works, but at a very heavy cost in performance. The motherboard is ASUS P5GC-MX and the disk is ATA WDC

Compiling CentOS kernel
When I download a kernel from kernel.org I can compile it making config and make bzimage, but in some case I tried to make the kernel for a specific CPU in CentOS kernel source and I can not compile the CentOS kernel. Why CentOS kernel do not compile as kernel of kernel.org? I think that should worlk ease. -- Devel it, Precio http://www.pas-world.com

Problems with building a complete kernel
I have a plain vanilla Centos source (not 100% sure where we got it from), but I can't seem to get a build that installs correctly. I tried the method described at http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel, but rpm doesn't like the output file, and even if I install it with -F, nothing seems to happen - no new kernel, now initrd, nothing. When I tried following the directions in the

Kernels From CentOS Plus
I found I have the following kernels installed last night: kernel-devel-2.6.18-53.1.21.el5 kernel-headers-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5.centos.plus kernel-devel-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5 kernel-2.6.18-53.1.21.el5 kernel-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5.centos.plus kernel-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5 kernel-devel-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5.centos.plus Evidently I have a wrong priority for centos plus? 3ware performance in CentOS
Have a look at these pages: http://www.bofh-hunter.com/2008/06/13/3ware-performance-in-centos/ https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=444759 I'm comparing the default 5.1 64bit kernel with the patched one posted in the bug report (kernel-2.6.18-53.1.21.el5.bz321111.x86_64) and I don't quite see any significant difference in write performance for this command: dd if=/dev/zero

stack overflow
Hi, I've got a fileserver that runs Centos 5.2. It's been stable otherwise stable for maybe a year or more, and now it's crashed three times since Saturday. The first two times the computer was completely unresponsive, and there was nothing on the console, and nothing in the logs. I was beginning to suspect hardware, (esp. RAM, PSU, or maybe a failed fan) Last night it

Is 4GB memory the 64bit switch tipping point?
I am curious what should be the benchmark for making the choice of switching from 32bit to 64bit Linux? I have a few assumptions below. Is my logic sound? (This is a follow up to the "Adding RAM" thread) Assumptions: 1. 4GB Memory. The main benefit of 64bit mode is the ability to address more than 4GB of RAM. I assume that you use 64bit mode if you want to *efficiently* have

Replacing custom kernel with another - with same identifier
Hi list, I just finished building a custom kernel from 2.6.18-53.1.21 source rpm - this time with ISA bus and ISAPNP support which I accidentally left out of my previous attempt. Unfortunately, this time I forgot to change my identifier in kernel-2.6.spec file. Thus I now have one *installed* kernel version *without* ISA support, and another one *with* ISA support but as rpm, not yet installed.

shutdown and boot on Xen
Hi, I am using xen-3.0.3-41.el5 on Centos 5 with 2.6.18-53.1.21.el5xen kernel. I'd like to: 1) When Dom0 shutdown, DomU's do the same. 2) When Dom0 boots. DomU's do the same. Is that possible? Thanks in advance! -- -- Open Kairos http://www.openkairos.com Watch More TV http://sebelk.blogspot.com Sergio Belkin -

how to debug windows not starting
Hi all I have a CentOS 5.1 x64 server, running Xen version 3.1.0-53.1.21.el5 & Windows 2003 VM. After doing a software update in Windows (via Remote Desktop), I rebooted windows, but it never came back up. So, I logged into the server via SSH, and destoyed the VM, and recrated it. Yet it doesn''t boot up ( I can''t connect to it via RDP). So, how do I debug it to see
