java packages - tomcat5?
Have the jpackage-packaged things like tomcat5 been moved into the disto
repositories? Do they work with sun java? In particular, tomcat5 used
to require jta. The one yum installs doesn't mention it now, but it
also doesn't work with sun java 1.5 installed the jpackage way. What am
I missing?

Rpmbuild and how to disable automatic dependency list creation.
Hello All,
When I build RPM packages, rpmbuild always scans all the executables,
shared libs, perl scripts, etc. to find out which external libraries
the application depends on. This is normally a Good Thing but I am
currently packaging an in-house, self contained application.
I could almost use a tarball but an RPM provides better manageability
and also allows post-installation tasks. All

CPAN not working, or is it?
(I've just tried this on a second C7 box, literally clean install, only did it
on Friday, with the same results)
I'm replacing a dead F19 box with a new C7 one and I'm trying to get my Perl
install completed. Ultimately, I need to get Selenium::Remote::Driver
working, but I'm struggling before that.
I started off as always by using RPM's for everything I possibly can. I

Yum Issue
Yum using proxy that requires authentication and a Password that
contains the two characters \/ fails
normally I can get yum to work with a proxy that requires authentication
when required by doing something like
http_proxy=http://<my username>:<my password>@<proxy server>:<proxy
server port>
export http_proxy
or by filling in the appropriate information in yum.conf.

CentOS5 Desktops authenticating to 389 Directory Server
Hi Everyone.
I am doing some LDAP testing. I have setup a 389 Directory Server on
CentOS 5 and using the default schema I have populated it with a couple
of users. I then did the configuration on the client that I thought was
needed to make it authenticate.
To test this I expected to be able to use id <uidNumber> of a user I had
defined.
But I get id: 1001: No such user id: 5001: No

Setting up Linux File Servers in a University Environment
Hello Everyone
I work for a University Department that has a high number of Linux
Desktop Users. Currently we provide a users home directory via NFS from
a file server. Generally it works well for us, but I have been asked to
look at our options for expanding the storage we have available.
So I thought one of the first things I had better do is consider are
there alternatives to the way we

Force to strip all symbols from ELFs when using rpmbuild on CentOS
Hello.
What's the proper way to remove *all symbols* from ELF binaries when
building packages with rpmbuild on CentOS? Seems that an out of the box
rpmbuild install only discards debugging symbols (strip -g).
That's the default configuration for %__os_install_post on CentOS, the
step in charge on stripping binaries:
$ rpmbuild --showrc
(..)

Replacing email envelope
Hi, Could you please advice how I can replace envelope of a message received on my server? Best would be using sieve. Simple case - email A at example.com ?receives message, which I'd like to repack into new envelope (I want to have control what values in the envelope will be there - from, to, replay-to et.c) and send to B at test.com . At first I wanted to use editheader
