Asterisk from flash with dynamic voicemail enable/disable?
I would like to create a rock solid asterisk server that comes up no matter what. Ofcourse I can consider hardware raid1 but.... for the cost of a hardware raid controller I can also buy a 2GB compact flash card that doesn't produce any heat or noise and is friendly to the electricity bill and our environment :) 2GB is more than sufficient for a linux distro and an * installation but

Compact Flash hard drives
Has anyone worked with either the Hitachi or Seagate Compact flash drives in an IDE to CF interface and set the up with EXT3 formatted partitions for use with LVM? I ASSuME that LVM is not for FAT32 formatted drives.

How hard to create Asterisk for Compact Flash?
I am aware of Astlinux and the other embedded Asterisk solutions out there? Astlinux is nice but the problem is that when I hit a snag and need to incorporate a patch and what not I cannot do that with Astlinux because I cannot compile my own version. How hard is it to create my own version of Linux/Asterisk to run on Compact Flash. I have seen 1GB Sandisk CF for as low as $50 recently so small

Booting from Compact Flash
Hi all, Advance apologies if this is OT; if so, please mail me offlist. A client is considering using CentOS5.1 for an embedded project. They will be booting from Compact Flash. The CF in the device is being controlled by a VIA VT6421 SATA/RAID controller. Are there drivers available or must we truly 'roll our own' when compiling the 2.6x kernel for this? I've done some

Port Closing Question..
Is there a software avail or a process that will monitor two ports and if there is no traffic close them so the program that is using them can reuse them? I talked to the vendor and they told me I needed to do this on the NAT/Firewall , but I dont see anything like that on my router. So any suggestions ideas? thanks, Ryan Nichols

Compact databases and removing stale records at the same time
I'm trying to compact (or at least merge) multiple databases, while stripping search records which are no longer required. Backstory: I've inherited the Cyrus IMAPd xapian-based search code from Greg Banks when he left Opera. One of the unfinished parts was removing expunged emails from the search database. We moved from having a single search database to supporting multiple

Failure to get compactPDF to compact a pdf file
I am failing to get compactPDF to make any change to a pdf file that, a/c to the message from the CRAN upload site, can be very substantially compacted. Any ideas what may be wrong? I have also tried recreating the pdf file. I also tried R CMD build --resave-data --compact-vignettes DAAG The data files compact alright (but I get the 'significantly better compression' warning message

[LLVMdev] Which is more compact, .bc or .ll.gz? And what might be even more compact?
According to the few tests I did, .ll.gz is more compact: 1.00 LLVM bitcode (.bc) 0.80 Gzipped LLVM bitcode (.bc.gz) 4.13 LLVM assembly (.ll) 0.68 Gzipped LLVM assembly (.ll.gz) However, there's not much in it, considering that a stripped native binary is about 0.40 on the same scale. So, seeing as projects such as PNaCl want to send LLVM bitcode over the network, are there any proposed

Compact Flash Could not find kernel image
Hello List Im trying to use syslinux on a compact flash card in order to boot Linux and DOS from the same CF, I installed syslinux on it by booting from the flash that already have DOS runing and executing the command syslinux -s c:, it sucesfully installed the MBR and ldlinux.sys, there is a syslinux.cfg file on the flash and the proper vmlinuz and linux.gz Initrd. Cloning a ZFS compact flash card
I need some help please. I am currently using a compact flash as the boot drive (ZFS) on a thumper. I want to create a clone of it to a file and restore it to a new CF card on another thumper. Unfortunately, an exact make, model and size of the CF has a few less cylinders so a straight dd of the slice2 does not work. Now I have to navigate the intricacies of the trying to clone rpool etc, which

Interesting xapian-compact observations
Greets, I've had xapian-compact (without -F) sessions running for several days now on 10 'merge' machines and I've noticed that the average compaction average can swing wildly: 18% 76% 10% 19% 39% 13% 69% 43% 19% 42% The average so far is about 35% (ie, 65% reduction in target index sizes, which is unexpected and pleasingly welcomed). I'm curious about the large variance in

Asterisk and flash disks
Hello I see it is possible to buy Flash Disks up to 4GB now. Has anyone any experience of building an Asterisk system with a flash disk as the only storage device? Any brands you recommend? Is 2 or 4GB enough for an Asterisk installation? Typically how many MB is required for voicemail recording files for say a 10 user system? What about voicemail - I suppose files could be emailed and

[RFC] Improving compact x86-64 compact unwind descriptors
John and Ron, I developed the original compact unwind implementation for macOS 10.6 back in 2009. I tried to leave space in the design to support finer grain exception handling such as for asynchronous or for the shrink wrap optimization. The idea I had at the time was instead of having just one 32-bit compact unwind info per function, there could be an array of them each covering a different

compact flash, fat, reduced knoppix and syslinux
Hi. I've recently picked up a 256MB compact flash card and CF->IDE adapter. I'm wanting to put a smaller version of knoppix on here. I came across miniknoppix here: http://www.inittab.org and decided to have a play around with that. So far I have opened up the ISO image and copied all the files out. I have put a boot sector onto the CF by putting the CF into the IDER adpater then
