install from USB thumdrive
Hi all
Is there a procedure to use an 8GIG thumbdrive to copy the centos 5.2
dvd contents
to the thumbdrive then run isolinux (or something like it) and be able
to use the thumbdrive as the install media?
Seems like it should work, however my machine only has syslinux not
isolinux.
yum provides isolinux does not return anything.
Anyway I was trying to get to a point where I can just stick a

Linux SYSLINUX vs SYSLINUX.EXE
To all or anyone:
I have a very strange problem when using syslinux, and lnx-bbc. Perhaps
somebody can provide some insight
into Syslinux as it relates to what I'm trying to do.
At Peerless, we use LNX-BBC to build a bootable USB thumbdrive. We
added a script to init.d in the ram disk
to execute one our scripts during LNX-BBC boot from the USB thumb drive.
I have seen an apparent

combining kickstart and DVD on a USB thumbdrive
Hi all,
I am trying to find information on taking a DVD of centos 5.2 x86_64
and putting it AND my kickstart file on a USB8G thumbdrive.
Note - I am not INSTALLING linux on the USB disk just trying to make
installation media for it. I am not taking just the bootdisk.img file to
make the USB
bootable but the entire DVD content on the USB and my kickstart files.
I'd like to just be able to

boot thumbdrive with CentOS 7 ISO???
The big picture is I'm wanting to boot centos 7 and install kvm.
So far I've created on this new laptop a big, empty partition; in the
BIOS enabled legacy booting and disabled UEFI; also in BIOS under Legacy
Boot Order set "USB diskette on key/USB hard disk" on second priority.
I've tried to boot from a usb thumbdrive three times and it failed all

Syslinux + USB + PE 2.0
I am having the darnedest of times trying to get my WinPE to work off
the syslinux loader.
I used to use isolinux, and my isolinux config would just invoke the
etfsboot.com file which
i had renamed to loader.bin, and everything would work just fine off a
cd. But now I'm trying
to transfer all of my cd functionality to thumbdrives.
With Syslinux, i have my syslinux.cfg file calling loader.bin

Boot Multiple Kernels
I can't seem to pick up on how to enter the path in the SYSLINUX.cfg file,
here is what I have tried:
label 3esx86
kernel 3esx86/vmlinuz
append initrd=3esx86/initrd.img
also tried
label 3esx86
kernel /3esx86/vmlinuz
append initrd=/3esx86/initrd.img
but I get errors like "cannot find kernel 3esx86.vm " or similar.
I am booting from a thumbdrive and it works fine if I

F18: Create a USB install of CentOS 6 from iso
Hi all,
On a F18, I installed livecd-tools-18.15-1
I downloaded CenOS6.x minimal .iso and with livecd-iso-to-disk the
resulting USB is never bootable: the computer doesnt boot on it. Tested
on many computers.
The fact is I succeded to install CentOS on a Netbook (no CD/DVD tray),
but I dont remember how I invoked livecd-iso-to-disk.
I tried with many combinations (/dev/sdc is the USB

portable apps
Hi,
I am just back to using WINE after several years. Linux has come a long way since then as has WINE. Because of my work I use several different computers during a week and therefore have compiled all of my windows friendly apps into portables several of which are not availible for linux.
Is there currently a way to use my portables (on the thumbdrive) via wine? I would be totally MS free

centos 5 and pen drive installation
hi,
has there been any advanced features leaked about centos 5
being able to install on a pen drive or thumbdrive.
I've got a little application that would be great in the environment.
Thanks,

USB Thumbdrive + dos ghost boot image + drive too small = confusion
I will really hate myself if this has already been solved, i searched
the archives but didn't really find anything pertaining to it.
I have a 2.88mb dos boot floppy image, with ghost.exe, dos nic
drivers, and dos system files. It works fine when burnt to a cd.
As for the thumbdrive when trying to configure this hpghost.ima file
to run from my syslinux.cfg menu, it works and boots up fine

virtualbox, lvextend, etc.
I'm using virtualbox with one of the tests I have for centos 6.4. I
realized after creating the disk, the default was too small. I added more
disk space with:
VBoxManage modifyhd /Users/user/VirtualBox\ VMs/centos\ 6.x/centos\ 6.x.vdi
--resize 25000
I then used this site to help me resize the lvm:

Adding RAM
I have a server running Centos 4.7 32bit. Will moving from 4Gig of
RAM to 8Gig do any good? Since its 32bit I assume it will only be
able to address the first 4Gig not? When I installed CentOS I did not
do anything special to enable using more then 4Gig if thats required.
Exim, spamassassin and Clamd seem to be the biggest load on this
machine. My biggest bottle neck is disk I/O anyway.

What about the number of writes to the flash? Is that still a problem?

Usb thumbdrive hardware Id
Hi
Is there a way to attach Usb thumbdrive serial number to mounted drive? I see that there is something in the Winecfg. but it does not seem to either save the serial when I put it. Maybe it is unfuncional. The reason I am looking for a solution for this is that I have Windows app that checks the usb drives real serial number.
thanks
