Recommended wireless card (or is there a chance to get either iwi or ath fixed)?
Hi,
after some time without FreeBSD I installed 7.1 on an IBM Thinkpad T30
(with ZFS root on encrypted geli, works great).
Config is:
FreeBSD hasking.alashan.nongo 7.1-STABLE FreeBSD 7.1-STABLE #3: Thu

root@hasking.alashan.nongo:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/HASKING i386
I tried using my ath based D-Link DWL G650, which still seems to have

ath(4) for D-Link G520M on 5.5-R?
I just got the D-Link DWL-G520M PCI wireless card. I'm not interested in
super-G or any other post-802.11b feature in particular; the reason I got
it was because the marketing materials hinted that (at least some revision
of it) had the Atheros chipset.
It isn't recognized at all by ath(4) on 5.5. Here is the pciconf -lv
section:

WLAN support
Hi folks!
First post here, so please don't bother if it's not the right place
to post those kind of questions.
I'm currently running a 4.7-release (upgrade to 4.8 planned but not
yet started) on my production box.
As I would like to setup a small WLAN (major use for my notebook,
other clients are possible) I need to know which cards are really
supported. The handbook is IMHO not

WIFI
Does anyone know of an easy to install/use WIFI PCMCIA card for Linux. I am
currently running Cent OS 4.0 on my laptop and I have a D-Link DWL-G650 Ver B
which will run off of the madwifi Beta drivers. Now I know I can get this to
work but I would feel a little better using software that is in production
development. Any suggestions and input would be helpful on my new card purchase.
The card

Mini-centOS
I am using centOS for my server and centOS is extremely stable. I almost love centOS more than my wife. However, centOS is a bit heavy to run on my notebook (P III 1G, 256MB RAM). I need gnome, firefox, openoffice, realplayer, gaim, acrobat and thunderbird on my notebook, but if I install all of them (plus base-system), my notebook becomes very slow. I wish I could have a lighter version of centOS

C6, lightweight window managers - opinions?
So, on my old Netbook, now happily running C6.9, I'm looking for opinions
for a lightweight window manager. Gnome surely ain't it....
Years back, I used to like IceWM, but not sure it's been kept up.
So, opinions?

Wifi - Managed access points...
Hi,
I'm working on a Wifi VoIP project specification. It will have almost 8 APs
and 20-30 wifi phones.
And after some research, I still having some questions ...
1) Are Managed Access Points (and switch controllers) really important to
implement good wifi woip (w/ low latency and acceptable handover time) ?
2) What is the difference between (3com WX1200 + 3com AP 3750) and

Centos 6 installation memory requirements
Will (does) Centos 6 require 512Mb of memory for the GUI install like
FC14 or the lower requirement of FC13?
My ASUS EE 700 has ~490Mb of memory (vidoe steals some from the 512Mb
base) and FC14 switches to text install and does not install any GUI,
leaving the boot in test mode.
I recall a message earlier that 6 is based off of 14, but not the final
Anaconda, thus my question.
It would be

xfce in CentOS 5.1 "extras" repository
Hi, I am using CentOS 5.1 x86 (upgraded from 5.0), and am still using
XFCE 4.4.1 from 5.0 "extras" repository. Just saw in XFCE site that they
released 4.4.2. Any chance to see it in 5.1 "extras" repository?

the "official" lightweight desktop environment for CentOS?
I want to build a dedicated MythTV box using CentOS5. I need a
lightweight desktop environment, something extremely simple that does
not use much memory. Gnome and KDE use way too much memory and are too
complex for what I want to do.
The system will login automatically to a certain account after booting
up. After the automatic login, it will start immediately the MythTV
frontend full-screen.

Samba "hijack" the connection?
Dear all,
I have 2 domains: JUPITER.COM (Samba 3.0.23c - Centos5) and WIN.COM (Windows
2000 Adv Srv). I join a windows XP SP1 (MOON), first to Windows domain and
then to Samba's.
The problem is when I join the XP to Samba's and then try to logon to WIN.COM,
the XP is instead logon to Samba, thus the username is not found. The DNS is
not a problem, I set the DNS of the XP to

About md5sum
Hi all,
A friend of mine gives me a copy of Centos5 DVD.
I then make an iso of it using dd if=/dev/cdrom of=centos5.iso command.
I then check it using sha1sum.
But the result is different than of listed in Centos website.
Should it the same? Or we simply cannot compare sha1sum from burned DVD to
that of 'unburned' iso file?
Thanks.

XCP graphical display on VM
Hi All,
I plan to use Xen (most probably XCP) to virtualize
two servers: one running OpenBSD, the other running FreeBSD.
These both servers will be running more or less headless (at least
without any graphical environment). I would want
to add a third server (most probably a Debian Squeeze or Freebsd)
to have a desktop (light, probably IceWM or XFCE).
The physical machine will have VTx but

Running another gnome or kde on virtual console
Hi,
I'm still new in linux world and CentOS is my 2nd linux desktop I ever used ( have used it for month now, before using Ubuntu for 2 days ), so please gave me a little favor on it :)
What I need to do is to have my virtual console that can also run gnome or kde, so I can have different windows on different virtual console. After googling, I found the qingy that just fit for my need.
