A question about plots and lists in functions
R-helpers: I tried googling and couldn't find anything. I have a function I am sourcing into R that does some calculations to generate a simulated dataset. I currently have a a list set up to store the outputs from the function and a plot of one of them (a set of ordered pairs) like this: foo<-function(x,y,z){ ## do some work here ## list(x=x,y=y,z=z,output1=output1,output2=output2,

Passing (Optional) Arguments
Dear List: In short, I am writing a number of functions as building blocks for other functions and have some questions about scoping and passing arguments. Suppose I have functions foo1, foo2, and foo3 such that: foo1<-function(a=1,b=TRUE,c=FALSE){#do stuff}; foo2<-function(x=1,y=FALSE,z=c(1,2,3,4)){#do stuff}; foo3<-function(lambda,...){lambda*foo1()*foo2()}; I want to be able to

A question about logical controls and function arguements
Dear R-help subscribers, I'm trying to write a function to generate data simulating the image created by a point radiation source in a plane on a screen where there is filter with a single circular aperture in it between the source and the screen. Following some guides (including Intro to R and some I found online) and examples I have specified the function (full code below question) with

Error while using fitdistr() function or goodfit() function
Try changing your method to "ML" and try again. I tried the run the first example from the documentation and it failed with the same error. Changing the estimation method to ML worked. @List: Can anyone else verify the error I got? I literally ran the following two lines interactively from the example for goodfit: dummy <- rnbinom(200, size = 1.5, prob = 0.8) gf <- goodfit(dummy,

Get an eSATA enclosure that has room for 8 or 10 drives and just connect it to box? I know that RAID is not a full proof backup, but I am looking for a solution to store all of my data, projects, music,

how to store estimates results as scalars of a matrix?
Dear R users, I've written a loop to generate Moran's test (spdep package) on serval subsamples of a large dataset. See below a short example. My loop is working fine, however I would like to be able to store the test results as lines of a matrix, that I would latter be able to export as a dataset. My problem is that I'm not sure how I could do this using R. Any help will be much

Error prevention by empty DB's request
Hi I have often the problem that rails outputs an error because of requests from an empty database. I will check, before showing features on the page, if a flag is set in the database. The problem is, that the DB is not filled, if you dont add the flag before. The result if i am doing the request is a nil object. For example:

Rbind with data frames -- column names question
As part of my work, I am trying to append matrices onto data frames. Naively I assumed that when rbinding a data.frame and matrix, the matrix would be coerced and appended, keeping the names from the data frame. Clearly, I am not fully understanding the process by which rbind works. Example code: > A<-data.frame(1,1,1); names(A)=letters[1:3] ; B<-matrix(0,2,3) > rbind(A,B)

Question about memdisk
Peter, I am trying to get memdisk to work with grub and have run into a problem. Grub loads memdisk into the 0x9000 segment and then starts it at location 0x90200. I run into problems in the first printf statement. It turns out that printf uses a switch statement that compiles into a jump table. When I reach this jump table, I believe the code is jumping into hyperspace due to the jump table
