OT: RAID5, RAID50 and RAID60 performance??
We have several DELL servers with MD1000 connect to it. Server will install CENTOS 5.x X86_64 version. My questions are:
1. Which configuration have better performance RAID5, RAID50 or RAID60?
2. how much performance difference?

3ware disk failure -> hang
I've got an i386 server running centos 4.2 with 3 3ware controllers in it
-- an 8006-2 for the system disks and 2 7500-8s. On the 7500s, I'm
running an all software RAID50. This morning I came in to find the system
hung. Turns out a disk went overnight on one of the 7500s, and rather
than a graceful failover I got this:

SATA vs. SAS
I have 8 WD SATA HDD with raid ready (3mbps) hard disks on a 8 port 3ware
controller.(on raid 5.) Does anyone have a comparison on SATA raid and SAS
raid disk. As you know SAS disk are very expensive and I would like to know
from experts in the list who could suggest which of the following would be
the best.
Option 1) 2 servers each having 2.0TB raid disk with SAS drives, 2GB ram and

best disk configuration
I have 12 750GB drive appliance from HP. I was wondering what is the best
disk configuration? I suppose a large RAID5 would be bad since rebuilding
would take too long. What do you recommend?
TIA

ZFS bechmarks w/8 disk raid - Quirky results, any thoughts?
Hi All,
I''ve just built an 8 disk zfs storage box, and I''m in the testing phase before I put it into production. I''ve run into some unusual results, and I was hoping the community could offer some suggestions. I''ve bascially made the switch to Solaris on the promises of ZFS alone (yes I''m that excited about it!), so naturally I''m looking

Aoe or iScsi???
Hi people...
Here we use Xen 4 with Debian Lenny... We''re using kernel 2.6.31.13
pvops...
As a storage system, we use AoE devices...
So, we installed VM''s on AoE partition... The "NAS" server is a Intel
based baremetal with SATA hard disc...
However, sometime I feeling that VM''s is so slow...
Also, all VM has GPLPV drivers installed...
So, I am thing about

RAID[56] status
If we''ve abandoned the idea of putting the number of redundant blocks
into the top bits of the type bitmask (and I hope we have), then we''re
fairly much there. Current code is at:

Help with Dell PE2950 and RAID5 setup
I've got a new PE2950 rack system with PERC controller and 6 drives set up
contiguously as one RAID5 volume on the PERC controller.
Using 64-bit CentOS 4.4, I partitioned for /boot having 100 Meg, swap
having 2 gig, and / with the rest (removed LVM).
After the install was complete, the system rebooted and just gave me a
broken grub prompt (not the graphical Grub boot selector, but

best parameters for fixed-size files on a RAID5 partition ?
Hi there,
Sorry for the dup, here are more informations.
I'll soon run RedHat4 U4 ES with multiple 4TB partitions made of a
7-disks RAID5 array.
Almost all files on these partitions will have a fixed size of 32MB.
Should I leave the default raid chunk size to 64k with ext3's 4k blocks ?
What are the best tweaks around to optimize overall performance ?
Thanks,
Ionel

Trying to recover ext3 on corrupted raid5
Hi,
I sent a message to linux-kernel that describes exactly what I did to
thourally fsck up my ext3, but now I'm trying to see if I can recover more
than the ext3 kernel driver will let me get to...
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-kernel&m=106745677408810&w=2
Now that you've read that, and you haven't given up hope (stubbornly like
me), then I'd like to know what I

X-Post from Linux-RAID [Re: I just trashed my RAID5 array - recovery possible?]
Hi,
originally I posted this to linux-raid@vger.kernel.org, but I guess
there are chances that someone in here might comment on it as well.
TIA.

CentOS4 and SATA Raid5
Further to my posts a few days (weeks?) ago, here''s an update on the
situation.
After the the Raid array finally rebuild, CentOS4 installed and now runs
without a problem.
The card is an adaptec 2410SA SATA raid card.

[amr] raid config went from RAID5 to RAID0 ?
I just noticed something very strange on one of our Dell PE1750 servers.
It is running FreeBSD 4-STABLE on dual CPU's with the embedded Dell Raid
controller (amr driver). Attached are 3 disks of 145GB. On a RAID5 logical
drive this gives me ~280GB storage.
Up until the last reboot (35 days ago) the 'amrcontrol' status utility
gave me:
