Missing /etc/log/rpmpkgs
On one system I am missing /etc/log/rpmpkgs
I believe that this file is updated by some cron job, and maybe I just
have not had this system powered up at the right time for the job to
run. Though I had thought that if a job was scheduled for a time the
computer was off, it would run sometime soon (with some definition of
'soon') once the system was on again.
On another system, I

Core Dump Issue
I have a samba 3.023c server with winbind joined to a windows 2003 AD
domain. The issue I'm having is from the windows computers, I can't
connect to shares on the samba server using the administrator
account. It works just fine with normal domain users. When I try to
connect with the admin account, I the smbd process that forked to
handle the request core dumps. The same thing

Problem with yum after upgrading from 4.5 to 5.0
Hello,
Have pretty much figured out I can't use plugins since upgrading. If I use
yum update --noplugins to get the updates for 5.0, I get:
Warning: rpmts_HdrFromFdno: Header V# DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID e8562897
Public key for samba-common-3.0.23c-2.el5.2.0.2.i386.rpm is not installed
I looked back through the archives and think I may need a rpmforge-release
key but have not been able

mdadm exim mysql
I installed a CentOS-5 core OS (using --nobase in my kickstart).
For some reason, it included mysql-5.0.22.
When I do "yum remove mysql", it says it will also remove
exim and mdadm for dependencies.
I don't care that exim will be removed, but I need mdadm as
I'm doing software RAID.
But why are these even related? When I do:
rpm -q --requires mysql
neither exim or mdadm is

central logging/analysis
I'm interested in doing centralized logging & analysis of logs from my
CentOS boxes.
I messed around with syslog-ng and it seems like it's a better syslog.
But I noticed most of the "usual suspects" of third-party repo
maintainers (Dag, Axel, etc.) don't include it. Karanbir has an el4
version, but all my boxes are CentOS 5.
I was going to go ahead and roll my own

mapped drive name question
Hi
When mapping a drive to the samba server the share name that appears in
Windows XP for instance is:
Shares on 'Samba 3.0.23c-2.el5.2.0.2 (fs1)' (T:)
Anyway to remove the 'Samba and version number from the name of the
share so it's just plain: Shares on 'fs1 (fs1)' (T:)
Thanks

Anacron IS installed it is just that....
You have to have a system running for more than 65 minutes for it to run
the daily cron jobs.
And if this is a test system that you keep rebooting. Well.
So if I want /var/log/rpmpkgs to get updated, I have to wait until the
next day an keep the system up for a bit more than 65 minutes. Actually
a quite reasonable requirement.
Add this to my 'book': cron is your friend. Anacron

I can't get mod_auth_ntlm_winbind to work
Scenario:
Centos 5 x86_64 machine with samba-3.0.23c-2.el5.2.0.2
The machine is a PDC, Windows 2000 users logon, get
profiles, etc.
I'm trying to set up a folder in apache that uses
NTLM authentication using mod_auth_ntlm_winbind.
I've followed:
http://adldap.sourceforge.net/mod_auth_ntlm_winbind.php
winbindd is running, and ntlm_auth seems to work:
# ntlm_auth --username=pdc2

Samba issue
for some reason I cannot to my samba server on centos 4.5 with any other
linux distro. I have tried pclinuxos, kubuntu, fc7. I have entered the
correct credentials in the correct case to no avail. What's funny is my
winders machines can connect just fine. Any ideas?

Infinite loop shutting down xendomains
Pardon me for a long detailed post but this looks pretty serious. The
bottom line is that, when I attempt to shut down or reboot my simple
xen-2.0.7 server running FC3 with two domUs, shutting down xendomains
appears to send python into an infinite loop. This may be due to a
serious misconfiguration on my part but it is certainly a big problem.
If we shutdown the domUs manually first, the

Random files in homedir gets deleted
On one of my systems I seem to loose a file or two from time to time.
Last night, one of my files (/home/online/sh/NattjobbPrivat.sh) was
deleted/removed/vanished. Another time it was /home/online/sh/daemon
that was deleted.
But I can't seem to find anything strange in the logs or in the history,
nor would any of my scripts running in crontab mess with those files.

yum updated to 3.3, rpmdb corrupted
I'd guess this is probably something pretty specific to my test box, but when I
yum updated to 3.3 my rpmdb got totally hosed. Unfortunately, I didn't save
the error that occured at the time because a rpm --rebuilddb _appeared_ to fix
the problem. Unfortunately I found out later that I was left with a db that
only contained a subset of the actual install base. I'm now trying to
