Monitor power save question
I decided to try the x86_64 version of CentOS 5 on my new desktop since it has an Athlon 64 X2 CPU. The one really perplexing oddity is that the monitor no longer goes to power save mode (standby) if the system is idle long enough (e.g., overnight). The "power management" option is set to put the display to sleep after thirty minutes. The display gets blanked but it never goes to

AGP cards in PCI mode (fake slots like AGPro, AGP Express, AGI, AGX, XGP)
Hello, I have a PC Chips A31G board with AGPro slot and found that nouveau does not work properly with it. Console works but reverts to software mode, X11 hangs with mouse cursor only. The slot is physically AGP 1.5V but is wired to PCI bus as the chipset (SiS 761) does not support AGP cards. To further complicate things, the chipset has AGP capability - but only for the integrated video. You can

networking issues - internet facing guest interfaces
I have the following networking setup: - eth0 and eth1 corresponding to the physical ports on the host NIC - bond0 which enslaves eth0 + eth1 - br0 which attaches bond0 - xenbr0 - xenbr5 all of which are internal only networks (10.0.0.0; 10.1.1.0; etc) Br0 is used both for the host to access the outside world as well as DomUs acting as gateway machines for each xenbr network. For example the

Dovecot under brute force attack - nice attacker
Hi List, optimizing the configuration on one of our servers (which was hit by a brute force attack on dovecot) showed an odd behavior. Dovecot Version 1.0.7 (CentOS 5.2) The short story: On one of our servers an attacker did a brute force attack on dovecot (pop3). Since the attacker closed and reopened the connection after every user/password combination the logs showed many lines like

How to RSYNC from eth1 on PDC-SRV to eth1 on BDC-SRV?
I currently have my /home directory kept in sync between my primary and backup domain controllers by using rsync --archive --checksum --update --delete pdc-srv:/home/ bdc-srv:/home/. I noticed that when this command is invoked, it tends to suck up the available bandwith to eth0 during the duration that the pdc is sending a large amount of data packets to the bdc. So what I would like to do

mac addresses on xenbr/vif
Hi, does somebody know, if there is any documentation available on how to set mac addresses on virtual bridges / virtual interfaces? Keeping track of every mac in the particular segments is really impractical. Number of xenbr''s limited to four on openSuSE 10.2 ?
Hi Group ... havin'' read whatever I could "google" on this topic, I didn`t find any solution: openSuSE 10.2 (out of the box), xenkernel, running on HP Proliant DL360G5 (dual internal networking, plus additional 4-port adapter) gives me eth0 - eth5, but only peth0 - peth3 (as well as vif0 - vif3 and consequentely xenbr0 - xenbr3). I increased the number of loopback-devices

[Bridge] My eth1 is crazy
Hi all, i'm having an issue with my bridge. I have the following network: ADSL router (192.168.0.1) ------ [eth0] Bridge (192.168.0.2) [eth1] ------- Workstation (192.168.0.3) Bridge works, but after some minutes, my eth1 card (8139too driver) goes link down and link up, disabling access to the bridge IP for a while (bridge functionality for workstation works ok). This happens between

Make eth1 primary interface
I have a Centos 3 server with three network interfaces. eth0 is for the local network and the firewall is the gateway, the ip and gateway are set statically. eth1 is a adsl connection using dhcp to allocate the ip. I want to make eth1 the default route. If it was statci I would just use a "route add default gwd eth1" command, but I can't do that with DHCP. How do I make eth1 the

Change output to virbr0 to eth1
Greetings: I am working with Xen 3.03 and CentOS 5.5 on a physical machine and have configured Centos 5.5. in a virtual machine (Domain-1). In the real machine I have two network cards eth0 (IP: 10.10.10.1) and eth1 (IP: 192.168.1.1). The virtual machine (IP 192.168.1.2) should come (gateway) for the network card eth1. Currently does not. The virtual machine sees only the interface virbr0 How do
