Recommendations for kernel config
Hi,
I'm building a test asterisk server and building the latest kernel I got
to wonder if there are any specific recommendations about schedulers and
so forth for optimum performance.
There are a few areas that raise questions in my mind and I wonder if
anyone has any opinions/comments on which settings are most suitable for
use with asterisk:
SLAB Allocator (SLAB or SLUB?)

DAHDI - Tickless Kernel?
Greetings-
I'm running some USB DAHDI hardware on a system with a tickless kernel. The audio quality is quite poor. Could the tickless kernel be to blame? If so, when recompiling a kernel that is *not* tickless, is there a recommended KERNEL_HZ value? IIRC, older kernels used to be 1000, but newer ones are 250.
Thoughts?

tick divider bugs
Hi all,
If you are using the kernel divider= option in your vmware quest, you
are probably aware of the bugs reported at:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=315471
Someone @redhat "confirmed" the fix is in the test kernel -92. I
tried it but it seems to have the same problem as before - when used
with clocksource=pit, it hangs on bootup. Wonder if some of you can
test this

Xen and networking.
I have a beefy machine
(Intel dual-quad core, 16GB memory 2 x GigE)
I have loaded RHEL5.1-xen on the hardware and have created two logical systems:
4 cpus, 7.5 GB memory 1 x Gige
Following RHEL guidelines, I have it set up so that eth0->xenbr0 and
eth1->xenbr1
Each of the two RHEL5.1 guests uses one of the interfaces and this is
verified at the
switch by seeing the unique MAC addresses.

Dovecot/SeLinux issues after RHEL5.1 upgrade
Hello to everyone on the list,
I have upgraded my RHEL4 to RHEL5.1 yesterday (all updates have been applied to it as well). I used to have dovecot v0.99.11 on the old system. Everything was working fine. Now I have 5.1 and its respective dovecot v1.0.rc15.
Upon upgrading to RHEL5.1, dovecot no longer works correctly. The first thing I did after rewriting the config file for the updated version,

High CPU usage when running a CentOS guest in VirtualBox
Hi,
I am running CentOS 5.3 32bit as a VirtualBox 3.0.0 guest running on Windows XP.
The Windows host CPU usage is constantly at 50% although the CentOS
guest is completely idle (i.e. 0.00 load average).
I know this is a common problem related to the 1000Hz frequency that
the CentOS kernel runs at. With previous versions of CentOS, I used
the kernel-vm package [1] and it solved my problem.

Xen and tickless Linux
Hello,
I am trying to build a custom kernel 2.6.24 from ubuntu with xen dom0
support.
Does Xen support a tickless system (CONFIG_TICK_ONESHOT=y) and the
realtime features of this kernel (CONFIG_PREEMPT=Y instead of
CONFIG_PREEMP_VOLUNTARY)?
Everytime, I set these options while configuring the kernel, the two
settings are not regarded during kernel compilation.
I also tried to build the

RHEL 5.2 i386 image - Xen kernel doesn''t recognize the total amount of system memory
Hello,
We have installed RHEL 5.2 Server ( i386 image ) on a machine with 64GB of
RAM.
When booting the default PAE kernel ( 2.6.18-92.el5PAE ) that is shipped
with RHEL 5.2 installation the OS detects 64GB of RAM.
But when booting the Xen kernel ( 2.6.18-92.el5xen ) the OS detects only
14GB of the total amount of available RAM.
Did anyone encounter this problem before ?
Is it a normal

Status of kernel divider option in 2.6.9-78.0.1
Under 4.6, we recompiled the kernel with HZ=100 for improved
time-keeping in VMware guests. I've read about the backporting of the
divider patch into RHEL/CentOS 4.7, but it sounds like it also comes
with some bugs. I have been unable to determine the current status of
the divider option in the latest 4.7 kernel update. I have
experimented with "divider=10" and it works with no major

VMware Server clock woes (running too fast)
I'm running VMware Server 1.0.6 on a CentOS 5.2 host and am having some
clock difficulties.
Host OS is x86_64 running on 1.9 GHz AMD Sempron, nVidia chipset.
Guest OS's are 32-bit FreeBSD (clock works fine after disabling ACPI,
setting the clock source to the PIT, and running the guest tools), WinXP
(unknown clock status), and i686 CentOS 5.2 (here is the problem).
I've tried pretty

I''ve always wondered - would dom0 be better off with a tickless kernel
or not? In other words, can someone explain which choice to make with

Audio cutting in and out - asterisk 13.1 cert6 / confbridge
Hello,
We use Asterisk extensively for conferencing - for the last 8 years or so this has been the 1.4/1.6/1.8 releases running chan_sip and meetme for up to around 350 concurrent users. Right around that number DAHDI hit's a hard coded memory limit and kicks allocation errors in the log.
