experimental rails story adapter in trunk
For those of you interested in getting a jump on learning about and
using the new Story Runner in a Rails app, I''ve added an experimental
Rails-Story adapter to trunk.
You can see how to use it here:
http://pastie.caboo.se/92320
This is PURELY EXPERIMENTAL, however it actually works and will likely
not change much in the way that it does work.
Happy hacking!

testing to see if emails are sent out on exceptions
Hi,
I''m using ActionController::rescue_action_in_public() to send emails
when uncaught exceptions happen.
Is it possible to write tests for that?

Testing action mailer in functional tests - missing section in the book
Hi !
I just need a pointer on how to do functional testing of ActionMailer.
My unit test for the ActionMailer is working fine - now I simply need to
assert that it''s being called in my Controller.
The testing book ends quite abruptly at
http://manuals.rubyonrails.com/read/chapter/64
I searched around on the web, but I didn''t find anything very conclusive.
Thanks,

second assert_tag failling in rails integration test
Hi all,
I''m fairly new to rails and ruby, but I''ve come across an interesting
glitch and I''m not sure whether I''ve just got something wrong with my
assumptions or if it really is an error in the underlying framework...
I''ve created a bare-bones set of tests to show you where the problem is.
What follows are the steps I went through to reproduce the

Ordering in view specs using have_tag and with_tag
When writing view specs is there any way to test not only for the
presence of tags (have_tag) and nested tags (with_tag), but also test
that they appear in a given order?
For example, consider the following:
it ''should display the login names, display names and email
address in alternating rows'' do
response.should have_tag(''div.odd>div'') do

perform_deliveries = false
Hi,
Can someone explain the proper use of the use of perform_deliveries
in the environment.rb file??
ActionMailer::Base.perform_deliveries = false
I just moved a new controller to the production version of an app,
but wanted to be sure everything was properly configured before
sending out a big mailing, so I set perform_deliveries = false,
believing that would prevent mail from being

Has anyone run function tests on ActionMailer?
I am running function tests to see if ActionMailer mails out an email.
I have two development machines, both with rails 1.1.6. On one
machine, the ActionMailer::Base.deliveries array resets itself after
each test. On the other machine, the array keeps accumulating the
emails from the previous function tests and doesn''t clear out the
array after each test.
Both machines have identical

Handling closed clients
We have a service that clients use to upload files. We have a couple of clients that are on slow links and so their upload times out. We get errors in the logs that I''d like to get rid of.
I was hoping that the recent commit 24b9f66dcdda44378b4053645333ce9ce336b413 would help us, but it does not. After digging in a bit, I have some ideas about why and a patch I''d like comments

I added this test towards the end of the included

ActionMailer::Base.deliveries returns array with duplicated elements in production env
Hello, I am testing for email sending from my app and I have a scenario
that passes in test env but not in production. When I make dump of
ActionMailer::Base.deliveries I saw that it returns array with duplicated
elements in production env but not in test env. I am using sqlite3 for test
env and mysql for production. Also I use delayed_job. Does anyone had the
same issue? Thanks in advance :)

have_xml_tag
Hi
Was just using have_tag on an xml response and found the problem
outlined and resolved here
http://weblog.jamisbuck.org/2007/1/4/assert_xml_select
Just wondered if there is any support in rspec?
Cheers

How to test views with Nested Resources and Partials
Hi everyone,
I am relatively new to rspec and I am running into a wall in testing my
views. I have a RESTful resource Contracts with a nested resource of
Line_items.
I am trying to figure out how to test the "edit" form of the Line_items.
What complicates this is the nested routing and how to account for it,
and that there is a partial form (_form.haml) that both the edit.haml

have_tag and line numbers
When I''ve got a view example like this:
1: response.should have_tag "fieldset#children" do
2: with_tag "child"
3: end
If it can''t find ''child'', the error seems to come back as my_spec.rb:1
instead of my_spec.rb:2.
Has anyone else experienced this? I just spent a while tracking down what I
assumed was a problem in my have_tag only to

Warning: Ambiguous first argument; make sure.
Hello,
I''m getting this warning:
Warning: Ambiguous first argument; make sure.
in my unit test:

Does anyone know why or how to change it so it disappears?
Thanks

Problem with view spec - works inside the browser but spec fails with nil object
Hi,
I''ve been trying to find an answer for this problem in the last couple
hours, but I think no discussion was about this exact same thing. So here it
goes, hope someone can help.
I''m trying to spec a view which works correctly on the browser, but that
generates the following error when I run "rake spec:views".

Testing the flash is brittle?
Hello all,
I seem to have an annoying habit of realizing that I''ve asked a
question with a blindingly obvious answer just after I''ve asked it
but here goes.
I''ve noticed that in my functional tests there''s the occasional
reliance on the contents of the flash. For example, I have an action
that confirms a users identity and may reject them because

Whence "post" in a description?
I''m having the exact problem described in this earlier post:
http://www.nabble.com/Odd-response.body-behavior-to12837556.html#a12837556
That is, after a post, response.body is just the controller/view string
("user/login" in my case).
Failing to find any answer on the web, I''m trying to trace execution, but
hitting a bit of a snag. I''m tracing the ancestry
