Showdown -- A javascript port of Markdown
Hi,
I've just posted the first public version of Showdown, a full
javascript port of Markdown. It's 10KB and works in all major
browsers. Try out the sample app:
<http://www.attacklab.net/showdown-gui.html>
Full source code is available:

All the heavy lifting is done by the browser's regular expression
engine, so

Extra markdown suggestions
Hello List,
I have recently started using Michel Fortin's PHP "Markdown Extra"
implementation to programmatically transform my markdown text files into
HTML. Firstly I'd like to say markdown is very cool -- thanks to everyone
involved :)
I'd also like to suggest two additions to markdown:
1) I very often use /this/ markdown to indicate emphasis since I find it

Markdown within HTML
Before I start writing an HTML parser for Showdown, I want to see if there's
a safe way to have Markdown process the contents of HTML block elements by
default. I don't think markdown="1" is an official part of the language
yet, so this seems like a good time to talk about it.
Being able to wrap Markdown text in divs and spans would make it possible to
add more structure to

PHP Markdown Extra fork for MathJax
My fork of Michel Fortin's PHP Markdown Extra has been updated to
include support for MathJax as well as jsMath. Both of these are
JavaScript libraries for using LaTeX syntax, e.g., \(E = mc^2\), to
include high quality, scalable equations (not just bitmapped images of
equations) in your HTML pages.

Babelmark
I'm currently attempting to write a spec for parsing Markdown Extra,
and since one goal is to minimize the differences in output between
implementations, I've made a tool allowing me to compare who does what
for any given input. I hope this can also facilitate future
discussions about the syntax.
So here's Babelmark, a testbed for various Markdown implementations

CodeDown = Markdown as the universal language for program documentation
Dear Markdown enthusiasts out there!
Sure, I don't need to tell you how great an versatile Markdown is for
writing standard documents.
I think, that it would make a really great universal standard as a
programming documentation language, too, and maybe "CodeDown" would be a
good title for this approach.
The idea started when I was trying to document some PHP scripts. I need to

WMD: the Wysiwym Markdown Editor
Hi,
I recently released WMD, a WYSIWYG-style Markdown editor in JavaScript:
http://wmd-editor.com/
The idea is to make Markdown more accessible to first-time users. The
editor buttons generate the Markdown for you, and a live preview shows
the results as you type. Site authors can have the output submitted
in either Markdown or HTML. WMD works in modern versions of IE,
Firefox, Safari,

PHP Markdown 1.0.1l & Extra 1.2
Time for an update to PHP Markdown and PHP Markdown Extra.
<http://michelf.com/project/php-markdown/>
This new version of PHP Markdown Extra adds support for "fenced" code
blocks (which I was previously calling "flat"). Fenced code blocks
overcome many limitations of Markdown's indented code blocks: they can
can be put immediately following a list item, can

Markdown Extra Spec: Parsing Section
Hello all,
I've began writing the parsing section of the spec, and I though I'd
let you know about where I'm heading with all this.
Basically, parsing is defined as three consecutive passes: parsing
document elements, parsing block elements and parsing span elements.
Each pass is going to contain a set of rules the parser should attempt
to match while parsing the input. Rules

[LLVMdev] Enabling debug in LLVM-1.7 release
Hi
This may sound like a stupid question, but well i am not very good with the automake tools:
How do i enable debug mode in llvm-1.7?
I tried
./configure --enable-debug-runtime
editing Makefile.config DEBUG_RUNTIME=1
editing Makefile.config.in DEBUG_RUNTIME=1 and ./configure --enable-debug-runtime
Currently i managed to make a profile build but gdb just chokes like this when trying to debug:

Markdown Extra Specification (First Draft)
It took much more time than I expected, and it is currently less
complete than I have hoped, but I've finaly made a first draft of the
Markdown Extra spec. You can find it at <http://michelf.com/specs/markdown-extra/

Currently, the specification defines its goals and a document model
for Markdown Extra. It lacks the most important part though: the
parsing section, which

Object-oriented PHP implementation is coming, looking for parties
Hello, list.
My name is Max, I'm a web developer.
I found Markdown convention very useful, I use it everywhere nowadays.
Michel Fortin's markdown-php seems to be the only available PHP implementation.
And, judging by number of people using it, it works well :)
But there is many thing that's keep it from being perfect:
* One large file with functions not being sorted in a logical

New List of implementations.
Hey everyone. Just and FYI that I started a list of markdown implementations:
https://github.com/markdown/markdown.github.com/wiki/Implementations
Please review and make any corrections/additions. The page should be
publicly editable as long as you have a github account.
Note that this is a list of _libraries_, which differentiates it from
wikipedia's list [1]. For example, mmd2pdf is a

footnote:id, colons and jquery
I just received a [bug report] for Python-Markdown complaining that
colons are used in the ids of footnotes. For reference, we [output]
the same format at PHP Markdown Extra. The general complaint is that
the colon in the id attribute (`id="fnref:1"`) causes jquery to choke
when referencing that id from javascript because jquery uses colons to
indicate pseudo elements (as does CSS). As

PHP Markdown 1.0.1h & Extra 1.1.4
This update to PHP Markdown fix a bug that slipped in the WordPress
interface with the last update. It also introduce a new "feature":
you can now instruct the parser to ignore HTML tags and/or entities
in the input. You can do this by instantiating yourself the parser
and setting the `no_markup` or `no_entities` properties to true:
$parser = new Markdown_Parser;

Markdown for Wordpress?
Does anyone know which version of Markdown is best for Wordpress? I
see online that there are a few and was wondering which one people
prefer. Also, is there any chance John Gruber will write an official
Markdown plugin for Wordpress, given how popular it's becoming?

Backtick Hickup
I'm using Michel Fortin's MDTest cases to rewrite my html2text.php script.
Just now I stumbled upon this bug (in PHP Markdown at least):
# Input:
Backtick: ``\```
# Output:
<p>Backtick: `````</p>
# Should-Be Output:
<p>Backtick: <code>`</code></p>
If you (Michel) are already aware of this, just ignore me ;-)
