PRIO and TBF is much better than HTB??
Hello mailing list, i stand bevor a mystery and cannot explain it J. I want to do shaping and prioritization and I have done these following configurations and simulations. I canĀ“t explain, that the combination of PRIO and TBF is much better than the HTB (with the prio parameter) alone or in combination with the SFQ. Here are my example configurations: 2 Traffic Classes http (80 = 0x50) and

tbf latency problems!
Hi i have found a problem related with tbf and the latency that the tbf calculates.. I have used the following parameters for burst and limit burst 100Kbit limit 500Kbit lat81.8ms burst 6Kbit limit 6Kbit lat 0us burst 200Kbit limit 100Kbit lat 4294.9s As u can see in the 3rd column the latency for 100Kbit burst and 500Kbit limit is 81.8ms but for 200Kbit and limit 100Kbit is 4294.9s!!! Diffserv using HTB or PRIO qdiscs as basis for EF phb
Im experimenting with using a Linux machine with 3 interfaces to operate as a core router. All links and network interfaces are 100mbit. Below is a ascii diagram of the network. (network A) edge router ------>core router---->edge router (network C) ^ | | edge router (network B) I have tried two

Wrapping prio in tbf
The manual says (about prio): > Because it doesn''t actually shape, the same warning as for SFQ holds: > either use it only if your physical link is really full or wrap it > inside a classful qdisc that does shape. The latter holds for almost all > cable modems and DSL devices. I want to wrap prio inside of tbf. Here''s why: I have a server on a DSL line, which has

linux bridging and htb.init / cbq.init
Hello, I''am successful using a linux (2.4.20) bridge and the cbq.init_v0.7 script for traffic shaping. But I can only use the queuing discipline tbf (LEAF=tbf). If I try use queuing discipline sfq or none then tc applies the rules but no shaping occurs. Is this problem a normal behavior when using bridging ? I tried to use htb.init (using patched tc binary). It accepts the rules but

simple or not? htb+prio
Hi I have now my outgoing traffic shaped whith root qdisc htb (where i configure basic rate) and tc prio (as a leaf with 4 classes) where i can set priority of different kinds of traffic. It works but htb is work-conserving so packets are only delayed (when the rate is exceeded), while i want them dropped. In the case when rate is exceeded i want to drop packets with priority set to 4, then if

greb + htb debug
Good morning i want to enable some debug messages concering htb and gred. The reason is that i want to see the journey of the ip packet through the 2.6 kernel from the start to finish (ethernet interface up to htb and gred classification). In the sch_htc.c i have found the following /* debugging support; S is subsystem, these are defined: 0 - netlink messages 1 - enqueue 2 - drop &

Download ratio unstable
Hi, i''m newbie with traffic control. I create a script based in one from Jason Boxman (thx a lot). the upload flow is prioritized well, but when i download from a site, the down flow vary a lot from 25 KB to 4 KB. Before i use this script the downloads are constant between 22 an 25 KB. Perhaps there''s something wrong in my script ? I paste it, thx.

Unable to delete htb class
Hi, Im trying to delete an htb class using tc... but i get the following error RTNETLINK ANSWERS: Device or resource busy What could be the problem? I had attached a tbf to it and removed it prior to removing the class.. i tried to delete the class without deleting the qdisc also.. both cases it fails.. Any help regarding this will be most appreciated.. Thanks in advance, Sanjeev R --

rate vs peakrate - TBF.
Hi, Can you please explain to me the difference between rate and peakrate, in conjucture to TBF. IMHO, rate : controls the no. of pkts flowing through the pipe, and peakrate : controls the no. of tokens flowing through the bucket. A funtion(?) of peakrate and mtu is rate. If this is true, why do I need to specify both peakrate and rate? Regards, suraj. __________________________________ Do

TBF maximum bucket size
I''m trying to fill a token bucket with enough tokens to burst several gigs of data. However, it doesn''t seem to get any higher than ~3.9GB: >tc qdisc add dev eth0 root tbf rate 1440kbit latency 50ms \ burst 16000000000 >tc qdisc show dev eth0 qdisc tbf 800b: rate 1440Kbit burst 3908420240b lat 2197.8s A smaller attempt of ~1.6 gigs works just fine: >tc qdisc

htb qdiscs inside htb classes tree - possible side effects???
Hello, Currently I use following htb configuration: --------------- 1:0 ----------- / | \ 1:1 1:2 1:x / | \ / | \ / | \ 1:1001 1:2001 1:3001 1:1002 1:2002 1:3002 Classes like 1:1,1:2,1:3 limit my clients to some value, let''s say 128kbit/s. Classes like 1:1001 are

TBF to limit bandwidth, Should I change #define HZ?
Dear friends, thanks for the last advices about TBF. After reading the tbf.pdf document I got a better insight of the problems I had trying to limit the bandwith on my testbed with a high resolution. The question I have now is: Would I get an immediatly better resolution result if I change the #define HZ to 1000 for my Linux box? I have a Pentium Celeron 700 MHz, and I would like to see the tbf

tbf token help
Hi all! I just started to experiment with bandwidth management using tbf. I have the folowing problems with token understanding: 1) What unit is token? Is "1 token = 1 byte" ? If this is so, then with rate=0.5mbit and HZ=100 the bucket gets filled with 0,64kb (655 tokens) every 10ms? 2) How much tokens are used for one packet (1500)? 3) And token unrelated question. Does

Simple question... where to find last stable version of HTB
Hi, New to traffic shaping I would like to make some tests. It''s for a production server (fw), using 2.4.27 kernel. Something is not clear to me about HTB... is the last stable version included in the 2.4.27 kernel and iproute2 (iproute2-2.6.8-040823.tar.bz2) ? Are there special patches to apply ? up and down shaping based on IP
Hello, i have a server (486sx and 16ram). It gives me this error : NETDEVICE WATCHDOG eth1 : ...timeout. I checked in many places for solutions. Even wrote to this mailinglist. But lately i recived information, that too much upload may mix my adsl modem up. So..... my question is how should my script look while the situation is : eth0 - connected to adsl modem and thus to internet eth1 -

Issues in setting up different priorities for the MAC match filter
Hi, I am currently using TC for setting up user MAC based filters, and I am seeing a problem when I try to assign different priorities to the MAC Match filter apart from the root qdisc and parent class. Here is my script. /*****************************************************/ First of all I create the qdisc and class based on priority 2 and also the Hash mask tc qdisc add dev eth1 root handle
