Bug#536175: xen-utils-3.4: Package description should mention the HVM is disabled
Package: xen-utils-3.4
Version: 3.4.0-1
Severity: important
The current version of the package does not contain the IOEMU tools.
This makes HVM domains, and PV domains with emulated features like VFB
impossible to run.
There might be good reasons for this, but then at least
the package description should contain a warning that makes
this obvious, so that users know that they can not

Bug#536174: xen-utils-3.4: pygrub searches for filesystem plugins at the wrong path
Package: xen-utils-3.4
Version: 3.4.0-1
Severity: important
pygrub uses the fsimage library to read contents of the filesystems to boot.
This package install the plugins for different filesystems at
/usr/lib/xen-3.4/lib/fs/,
but searches for them under /usr//usr/lib/fs.
(The debian patch tools-libfsimage-prefix.diff explicitly tinkers with
this path,
but it fails.)
This breaks pygrub.

Bug#536176: xen-utils-3.4: trying xen-3.4 once breaks xen-3.2 (?)
Package: xen-utils-3.4
Version: 3.4.0-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software
After installing xen-utils-3.4 besides my existing xen-3.2 system,
I could not start xend-3.2 anymore. The message I was getting is this:
"Failed to initialize dom0 state."
As far as I know, xen 3.2 and 3.4 are supposed to be able to live
peacefully on the same system. (The

mainboard recommendations
Hi,
As it has been brought to my attention (by several parties), my current
MB does not support VT-d.
Since I don''t feel like purchasing a brand new system, I have searched
for replacement MB-s
that would fit into my existing uATX case, support my C2D CPU, and
support at least 4x2GB ram.
I have narrowed it down to the following four models:
SUPERMICRO MBD-C2SBM-Q-O (Q35 chipset)

XEN sound emulation locks device exclusively
Hi there!
My problem is the following:
I am experimenting with virtualization with XEN.
I am running WinXP in a HVM host with a Debian Gnu/Linux (Etch) dom0.
I am also using audio emulation (sb16). This way, sounds from WinXP work fine.
And here comes the problem:
The HVM guest completely reserves the audio device; other software can not use it.
(mplayer says this:

newbie question: why do I see root directory in wine, when no drive is configured?
Hi,
This might be a stupid question; I checked the FAQ, but could not find a
solution.
In Wine Config, I have only two drives configured:
C: is ~/.wine/drive_c
D: is ~
Still, when I run winefile (or any other wine app), besides drives "C"
and "D", there is a "/" drive, which is the root directory of my real
file system.
Why is it still there, even if I

status of Jack?
Hi,
Could someone please explain me what is the current status of the jack
audio back-end?
(Both midi and audio.)
The feature to switch back-end seems to have disappeared from winecfg,
and I can't find anything useful in the docs either.
Thank you for your help:

Graphics Card for VirtualGL server in XEN domU
Hi,
I have read your message about building a VirtualGL server in a xen domU at
http://www.mail-archive.com/virtualgl-users@lists.sourceforge.net/msg00088.html
.
I plan to do exactly the same. Could you please share some of your experience?
What HW have you chosen? Have you succeeded?

bogus motherboard? IOMMU does not work
Hi all,
I would like to get my system to work with IOMMU.
(The long-term goal is VGA passthru.)
System is as follows:
CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600
MB: Foxconn G9657MA-8EKRS2H (w. latest bios: 631F1P61)
Virtualization support is enabled in BIOS. (These is only one option.)
Hypervisor: xen 4.0.0 from Debian, AMD64
Xen config: iommu=verbose
output of xen dmesg is attached.
HVM domains work (lasd tried

If you've removed the Z: drive then Wine won't be able to open, save, or execute files in those directories, but there's no way to stop it from

Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Speex, Ogg FLAC
Now that FLAC has officionally joined the Xiph family,
there are three different free audio codecs, which can be
stored/transported using the ogg container.
Would it be possible to create an API and/or a library that
would cover them all?
If my understanding of the situation is correct, if an application wants
to support vorbis, speex and flac, it has to use three different
interfaces.

puppet and domainnames
Hello all,
when I do a signature request to puppetmaster, if no domainname is
configured then puppet gets it from /etc/resolv.conf. Even if the
"search" line is commented. I had to delete the search line in
resolv.conf to obtain a signature request with hostname only, and then
it appears with a final dot (hostname.). Is it that puppet does not like
being domainless ?

ambiguity in sample ices config files
[please cc the answers to me, because I'm not on this list!]
Hi there!
Yesterday I downloaded the CVS version of icecast and ices.
There are several example config files provided for ices in the
conf/ directory.
The ices-playlist.xml specifies encoding for one of the instances:
<encode>
<nominal-bitrate>64000</nominal-bitrate>

Unified codec interface
Here is what I imagined (just vague thoughts, nothing polished):
Let's suppose we have a hypotetical library called
"Free Universal Codec Kit" - ..um...well.. Frunick for short :)
(Of course I am not proposing this name, I'm sure the suits in the
industry would not like it...but for my example its OK ;)
Now, an application should do something like this:

Best practices for mailbox network file storage?
Is there a current best practice for a shared filesystem backend for mailboxes (in my case, all virtual accounts)?? NFS 3/4, GFS2, GlusterFS, other?? In the case of the latter ones, is the use of Director necessary?? Any specific anti-recommendations?? Also, if it matters, I *think* I want to use BackBlaze racks for storage.? Also, I've seen recommendations for the filesystem underneath like
