Backporting Xen 3.1 to Etch
Hi, this morining I was trying to compile xen 3.1 on my Debian Etch (AMD64). I have a little problem with gcc-multilib. It depends on many packages that don't exist in Etch. So I brutally remove it from debian/control and then dpkg-buildpackage. There was some warning on compilation: dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of `NEEDED libxenstore.so' not recognized dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format

Xen 3.1 in unstable?
Hi, I just happen to see that there are no Xen 3.1 packages in unstable as of yet - even if 3.1 is released since a while now. There are the Packages in Ralph's apt repository, but I wonder why there are no newer packages yet. This shouldn't be criticism, but two questions come up: 1) Is the reason that there are no newer packages that you need some more help? Then I might be able to

PXEbooting very slow
I'm using pxelinux.0 version 3.81 (3.80 had similar problems) with tftpd32. It is very slow in loading "default" file; tftpd32 shows it continuously sends this file together with menu.c32, but pxelinux.0 keeps on requesting for, say, 5 seconds. Occasionally it is also slow in checking the other possible config files (those based on mac address): it spends some seconds on each

problem with coding for 'optim' in R
Hi, there I am a graduate student new to coding in S who is hitting a bit of a wall at present using an "optim" function. I am running into some troubles, and was hoping someone might be able to recognize where I am going wrong. As background: I have constructed a loop that carries out a 365-day calculation for a mass-balance model. Basically, the model depends on 2 variables (p,

Variance explained in regression trees?
I apologize for what may be novice questions but I am new to program R and need a bit of assistance. I am using R to create regression trees to explain how various environmental predictors influence coastal dune loss as a result of hurricane activity. First question is as follows; how do I interpret the complexity plots that the rpart package will produce. What do the X and Y axis represent

Asterisk testbed for teaching connecting to a PRI-ISDN
Hi, I would like to realize a voip testbed that should simulate the scenario in which two companies have an asterisk PBX connected through a PRI-ISDN to the Telco operator. I have no experience of T1/E1 connection but I think that the above could be relized with 3 asterisk boxes equipped with Digium TE405P cards. One of the box will represent the Telco, the other two, the two companies PBX. I

IGMP
The BBC are currently trialling multicasting the Olympics. This requires multicast and IGMP to be available. As far as I can make out, in 2.0.8 at least, all multicast addresses are filtered out and, to my naive eyes, can''t be re-enabled. Please prove me wrong :-) Dirk -- Please Note: Some Quantum Physics Theories Suggest That When the Consumer Is Not Directly Observing This Message,

Excel can do what R can't?????
Hi there I thought this would be of particular interest to people using 'optim' functions and perhaps people involved with R development. I've been beaten down by R trying to get it to perform an optimization on a mass-balance model. I've written the same program in excel, and using the 'solver' function, it comes up with an answer for my variables (p, ACT, which
