Compressing sound fonts with FLAC
I've been doing some more tests with compressing sound fonts with FLAC.
It compares quite well with sfArk which is a common compression used on
the internet for sound fonts, unfortunately its not open. For the most
part, in my tests, sfArk beats FLAC in compression, but thats not
surprising as I am compressing entire sound fonts which include
non-audio data as well. The average compression

Success moving Xen LVMs from 32 to 64bit host
Just wanted to share some success I had moving some Xen guests from
one server to another.
Problem Recap
We had Xen host on a single core 32-bit CentOS 5.4 installation on an
AMD Athlon 2.1 GhZ system that was giving hard drive errors and needed
to move the LVM-backed Xen images to another server. The replacement
server was a quad-core AMD Phenom system running 64-bit CentOS 5.4.

zlib+shlib issue with the official EL4 R binary
Hi,
I have got a curious issue with an R package which uses zlib, against
the official binary here:
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/redhat/el4/i386/R-2.4.1-1.rh4AS.i386.rpm
on a Redhat EL4 i686 system.
The problem is that at the end of reading a gzip'ed file within my
C code, gzgetc() returns -1 (no more to read or error) but
gzeof() doesn't return true. Now one can probably jump to

Feedback for Powercom IMD1000 AP with 2.6.0
Hi,
I managed to install 2.6.0 on a Gentoo system and almost everything is
functioning properly with the usbhid-ups driver. I had to add "productid
= 0004" into my ups.conf. For monitoring and administration, I use the
cgi interface.
I have problems with the instant commands tough: The commands seem to
have no effect most of the times (except see next paragraph), despite

MGE evolution s1250 all values = '2'
Hi,
I think my problem will be easy to resolve ... I don't understand why
the ups return the value 2.000000 for all variables ... I've been
looking for 1 hour on google and I can't find similar problem.
Thank you

HP Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller
Hello,
I'm trying to install CentOS 6.0 64bit on a HP ProLiant ML110 G7 with a
HP Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller.
One logical drive (RAID 1+0) on the RAID Controller is already build.
CentOS Installation can't find the logical Drive, but it shows me the
zwo physical drives (sda+sdb). After searching the web, I found

APC 1000 NUT stops responding
Good afternoon,
So been trying to figure out a problem i am encountering with NUT and
two APC 1000 UPS's that's connected via USB, First off it somewhat works
well kind of, Pull the power to either UPS and it's slow at responding
but finally detects it however the other problem is that after a few
days NUT just stops reporting that the Power has been off. Here is what

PCNS for CentOS and APC ups's
Apparently there is only an Itanium client for RHEL according to APC? I need to setup a few boxes to shut down safely and don't know if the PCNS 2.2.3 Linux version will do it? Anyone know why it needs Java as well? (Blegh)
Assuming APC is fairly popular, how do you guys shutdown your CentOS boxes with a UPS with a management card in it?
Thanks!

Networked APC
Hi,
I was wondering if there was any support in NUT for networked APC
UPS's. All the configuration examples I see in the documentation are
for USB/Serial connections to the UPS. I could mess around with
serial/USB cables, but I'd really rather talk to the UPS over the
network. I don't want all my servers relying on a single machine with
a serial connection.

Problems with MGE ESV 8+ and NUT 2.0.3
Hello, I recently had a failure with my old MGE ESV8 ups, it just died
on me so I had to get a new one. I found a MGE ESV8+ cheap and
everything seems to work fine with it except the communication with the
computer. The old ESV8 (non +) worked fine with NUT after applying some
patches I got from the mailing list, but I think they are in the source
tree now. I'm using the same cable that

APC 5G UPS APC-HID
I've grabbed a snapshot of NUT from just a couple days ago. Glad to see APC's
new 5G UPSes added to the list (though you probably want to add it to the UDEV
52-nut-usbups.rules file as well...).
My issues with new APC Smart-UPS units (SMT1000) :
Powering-down the unit, whether with upsdrvctl or upscmd will not obey the
specified delay in offdelay, or ups.delay.shutdown. Instead, a

APC UPS won't restart after power outage
Hi
Installed new APC Back-UPS CS 350 on single server running openSUSE 11.2
64-bit and configured NUT 2.4.1 (SUSE package) according to instructions.
When testing, NUT shuts down the server correctly and instructs the UPS to
power down. UPS does so after some 20s delay, everything without errors. But
after restoring main power, even after waiting for 1/2h UPS does not by
itself turn on again,

Problems connecting to APC/Smart-UPS 3000 RM
Hi all,
I have an APC/Smart-UPS 3000 RM that I am trying to connect to nut via the usb
port. I have nut running just fine on several other machines using APC ups's
via the serial ports but this usb thing is making me crazy.
If I do a "/sbin/newhidups -u root -D -a PS1" it recgonizes the ups and dumps
a bunch of information like below:
