Migrating spec_helper with modifications
Hello,
After moving into the HEAD of rspec, I am greeted with a mountain of errors,
which I expected, due to my specs not being migrated.
I use hpricot for a lot of my view tests, as it is extremely simple to
traverse the DOM with it. I used to include HpricotSpecHelper in
spec_helper.rb, like so:
require ''hpricot_spec_helper''
module Spec
module Rails
module Runner

rSpec on Rails 1.2?
I just updated my Rails install to the most current Edge and my
controller specs fail:
1)
TypeError in ''The User Controller should be a user controller''
can''t convert nil into String
Each spec fails the same way.
<context string> <spec string>
can''t convert nil into String
Any ideas what''s up with this?
Thanks,

RSpec-ers:
I''m aware this is quite the FAQ. I have probably asked it myself, but I just
can''t Google up anything but others asking it.
I grabbed the source to Beast, to use as a Rails project uninfluenced by me, or
RSpec. Then I installed the CURRENT version of RSpec and rspec_on_rails, and set
up a model spec on Post.
Here''s the spec_helper.rb lines:

Merging dataframes
Thanks - Peter, Eivind, Rui
Sorry, I perhaps could not explain it properly in the first go.
Trying to simplify it here with an example - Say I have two dataframes as
below that are NOT equally-sized data frames (i.e., number of columns are
different in each table):
Table_A:
Email Name Phone
abc at gmail.com John Chan 0909
bcd at yahoo.com Tim Ma

Merging dataframes
Hi,
I'll coded your example into R code:
Table_A <- c('abc at gmail.com', 'John Chan', '0909')
Table_A <- rbind(Table_A, c('bcd at yahoo.com', 'Tim Ma', '89089'))
colnames(Table_A) <- c('Email', 'Name', 'Phone')
Table_A
Table_B <- c('abc at gmail.com', 'John Chan', 'M',

Can I map 2 tables into one class
Can I map 2 tables into one class?
Is there any pattern, e.g. using ActiveRecord aggregation?
Thanks

help with DRY violation
I''m trying to be a good rails developer and fix DRY violations as i find
them. However, i''m trying to fix this one, i cant seem to get it to work.
I have two tables A and B that have a one-to-one relationship. Table B
belongs_to Table A. Table A has_one Table B. I''m creating instances of
Table A in different places, depending on the controller. However, for each

DRYer controller specs
So, I''ve been following the recommendations for controller specs here:
http://blog.davidchelimsky.net/articles/2006/11/09/tutorial-rspec-stubs-and-mocks
Most notably: a single expectation per specify block; the setup block
contains only stubs; mock expectations each get their own specify
block. (I''m still using 0.8, so I haven''t gotten the describe/it
goodness yet.)

Composite primary keys and :joins=>
I have a legacy db with the following simplified structure:
Table-A:
type_key, code_key, name, ... # PKs are type_key and code_key,
there is no id col and I cannot alter this db
Table-B: # each row has only the code as a foreign_key, the type_key
is hard-coded to "FOOKEY"
an_id, code, ...

sorting attribute in list from foreign table
Hello, I currently have two tables.
table_a (
id
table_b_id
other_attrs
)
table b (
id
name
)
So table A holds an id from table B. During the listing of tuples in
table A, it lists table A''s attributes. In place of the table B id, I
check the id, and instead display the name corresponding to that id. Now
I want to be able to sort the listing of tuples in table A by the

has_many :through and foreign key parameters
I just took my HABTM and turned it into a :through since my join table
has another "non-joiny" attribute.
I went from this:
has_many_and_belongs_to :jobs, :join_table => ''tablename'',
:foreign_key => ''x'',
:association_foreign_key => ''y''
to this:
has_many :jobs, :through =>

Test if view renders appropriate partial?
Hello,
I am testing out a partial that calls another, general purpose
partial as part of its processing. Is there a class I can mock in
Rails views to accomplish what I need? That is, could I do something
like the following:
SomeClass.should_receive(:render).with(:partial => "foo", :locals => {
:bars => bars })
I tried breakpointing the view, and it looks like I am greeted

mock out render call in helper
Hello,
Does someone know where I can hook in to mock out a render call from
a helper in Rails? I know I can do this in view specs with the
following
@controller.template.stub!(:render)
but template doesn''t seem to be attached to @controller in a helper
context. Thanks.

Mocking User.find( :all, :limit => 10 )
Hi,
I''m trying to setup a mock for my controller test but I can''t get it to
recognise the mock.
I use
it "should find all users" do
User.should_receive(:find).with( :all, :limit => 10
).and_return([@user])
do_get
end
and in the controller
@users = User.find(:all, :limit => 10 )
But this does not work. It gives me
User expected :find with (:all)

Suggestion: put svn url under "Contribute" section of site
Hello,
I have been looking to submit a patch to RSpec, and I wanted to go
about it the right way, so I loaded up
http://rspec.rubyforge.org/contribute.html. The author of this page
suggests that one should download from trunk to make any patches. It
would be great if this section also included a url to the trunk.

Problem running unit tests
I am running Rails 1.1.2 with Ruby 1.82-15. My database is Postgresql. I
haven''t had any problems generating models, migrations, using scaffolds, and
generally building and using my application, but I haven''t been able to get
testing to work. I initially just ignored the problem and kept developing,
but would like to add proper testing from here on out.

wrong id for activerecord object when using :joins in mysql
I''m using a find with a :joins clause, like this:
:joins => "JOIN table_b ON table_b.id=table_b_id"
The records returned are used in a scaffold generated list page. The edit,
show, and destroy links are getting the wrong id. They are getting the id of
the table b record.
When I run the query using mysql, I see that the query returns *2* id
columns, the id of the main
