I have been struggling to get fixtures to work here with no success.
They just Do Not Work For Me (tm).
I have created a model named Headline with the `generate'' script and
modified the test/fixtumes/headlines.yml as follows

Fixtures are not loading into instance variables. Why not?
Hi,
I have a fixture in a unit test and I see that the
fixture is loaded correctly into the database table,
but no instance variables are created.
So now I''m stuck.
More background: this is my first RoR project and I
have just installed the SaltedLoginGenerator and
generated its output.
Running the unit tests gives an error, so I cut it
down to just 1 test:

Feeding the framework ?
Hi there,
Is it just me or do many other rspec / rpsec_on_rails users spend more
time than they would like feeding the framework ?
Don''t get me wrong, I love rpsec, but I seem to spend about 2/3 hours
per week hunting down rspec problems.
For example, today `rake spec:models` is broken. When I migrate, load
fixtures and run `spec -cfs` all is well. When I run `rake spec:models`,

rails models, logging and testing
Hello,
I am using rails 1.0 and I have following questions. Please help me.
[1] How can I do logging in the rails models? I checked the wiki but didn''t find
anything which I explained how to do logging in models.
[2] Say I have a certain model, when I declare a function in the model, and
try to use that function from a view or a unit test, I get an error. For views
the error occurs

spec:models depends on development db:migration
For those interested ....
rake spec:models seems to clone the test database from development. If
your dev db is empty, the models task fails mysteriously.
Anyway, to make sure your dev db is at the current migration version, I
added this dependency in lib/tasks
task ''spec:models'' => ''db:migrate''
Now the dev db is migrated up with each test pass.

Meridian case
Hi there,
I have a *really* weird issue with rspec on rails:
Given a time meridian formatted using %p
When I run `rake spec` the time meridian is converted to lower case:
expected: "Today 08:00 PM",
got: "Today 08:00 pm"
Yet when I run `rake spec:models` and `spec -cfs app/models` the specs
pass, ie the the time meridian is in upper case.
Anyone got any ideas how I

rSpec website tutorial correction
Hi there,
On page
http://rspec.rubyforge.org/documentation/rails/writing/views.html the
view spec example is incorrect.
Instead of:
require File.dirname(__FILE__) + ''/../../spec_helper''
It should read:
require File.dirname(__FILE__) + ''/../spec_helper''

Fresh rspec on rails install blows up
Hi there,
I installed the rspec on rails plugin for a new project today and guess
what -- it blows up!
All by other rspec on rails projects are working fine.
I updated all gems & still no joy. Any ideas how I can troubleshoot this
one ?
Here''s my setup:
- ruby 1.8.4 (2005-12-24) [powerpc-darwin8.7.0]
- Rails 1.2.5
Installed with svn:
ruby script/plugin install

Should fixtures be transactional?
I started using the new Model.should_have(1).records expectation in
rspec_on_rails, and quickly realized that my fixtures were remaining
loaded, even in contexts that didn''t use them. Bug or feature?

routing tests
Hi there,
is there a script/console like program where I can test my routing? IIRC
there is something like that in the agile web dev. with rails book.

Rails Unit test Problem
Hi all,
I have a problem with unit test database data reload.
I have several test_xxx function in my ruby unit test file
I would like to know why xxxx.yml containing test data are load only 1 time
for all the test while specification say it done for before each test
method.
Thus my test_xxx are dependant of previous test
This is a mistake, because the specs say the test data are reload

Test data life cycle confusion
Hi,
It states on page 140 of Agile Web Development with Rails:
Here?s the bottom line: even if a test method updates the test database,
the database is put back to its default state before the next test method is
run. This is important because we don?t want tests to become dependent
on the results of previous tests.
Well, I''ve been running into a brick wall with some functional tests

@version_control_book not available while testing - AWD book 1 page 148
In the page 148 of the AWD book it''s mentioned that the while testing
@products and @version_control_book are automatically made available.
That''s not the case with me. In my test environment I don''t get those two
variables.
I was wondering if anything has changed in Rails 1.1 because in the new
edition of the book (AWD - edition 2) there is no mention of such

uh... fixtures?
RSpec-ers:
I''m aware this is quite the FAQ. I have probably asked it myself, but I just
can''t Google up anything but others asking it.
I grabbed the source to Beast, to use as a Rails project uninfluenced by me, or
RSpec. Then I installed the CURRENT version of RSpec and rspec_on_rails, and set
up a model spec on Post.
Here''s the spec_helper.rb lines:

Order of tests matters???
I have a problem with tests. I always thought that the order of tests doesn''t
matter because the fixtures are reloaded before every test method. However, I''ve
just discovered that this isn''t true.
This is a quote from the "Guide to testing the rails" howto:
"... if we had another test method, we wouldn’t have 10 users on the 2nd test
because they would

Best way to upload an image and make a thumbnail
Hi, which is the best way to upload an image, keep that and also make a
thumbnail?
The images should not be stored in the database, but as normal image
files in a specific directory.
I think that for the thumbnail i should use rmagick, but for the upload
? (something which work with and without javascript, in every browser)
Thanks :)
