advice about R for windows speed
Dear All,
I appreciate any advice or hints you could provide about the following.
We are running R code in a server (running Windows XP and QuadCore Xeon
processors, see details below) and we would like to use the server
efficiently. Our code takes a bit more than 6 seconds per 25 iterations in
the server using a default R 2.10.0 installation.
We tested our code in two other computers, a Dell

rails hyperthreading on Quad core
Hi, my video sharing website (politube.org) that I developed with rails,
runs on lighttpd/fcgi (I know it is obsolete by now) and is severely
under load and regularly blocks because the lighttpd process chews up
50% of RAM (1GB).
So now I want to move the system to a new server with 8GB, 64bit ,
Quad core processor (intel i7 920) but I am not sure if hyperthreading
will really do anything better.

Using all cores during compile
Is there anyway to use all 4 cores on my quad core during compilation? It appears I am only using 1 core. I am hoping there is a flag I can pass to the makefile.
Alternatively, I could probably break the makefile in four different makefiles for compiling and a separate makefile for linking. From there I could execute the compile makefiles seperately and finally the link makefile when the others

vcpus higher than real cpus possible?
Hello, i have just migrated machine to xen server where only 2 cpus are
available. I have copied config from machine where domU was located before.
That machine had 4 CPUS (QUADCORE), current machine has 2 CPUS (1 XEON
2cores).
I have forgot to change vcpus from 4 to 2 in config, but .. what really
surprised me ... machine started . How it is possible? It was really slow

Question regarding digital card TE412p
Hi,
I was able to implement T122p one port PRI and was able to call out, but I
am planning to use TE412p (includes echo cancellation) 4 port digital card
(PRI), I wanted to know can asterisk support 3 four port PRI cards (12 PRI
connections) with proper hardware like dual core quadcore processor and 8gb
RAM in one server?
Also I was planning to implement using 64 bit architecture with Asterisk:

Use of processor by R 32bit on a 64bit machine
Dear all,
I've recently purchased a new 64bit system with an intel i7 quadcore
processor. As I understood (maybe wrongly) that to date the 32bit
version of R is more stable than the 64bit, I installed the 32bit
version and am happily using it ever since. Now I'm running a whole
lot of models, which goes smoothly, and I thought out of curiosity to
check how much processor I'm using. I

Number of worker processes on hyperthreaded processor
Good morning,
The tuning page says worker_processes should be at least the number of CPU cores on a dedicated server. In the case of hyper-threading, should this be the number of cores or the number of threads?
For example the Intel Core i7-2600 Quadcore[1] has 4 cores and 8 threads. Would I start my worker_processes at 4 or 8?
Finally, would the same apply to Nginx worker processes?

HW experience
Hi,
we would like to establish a small Lustre instance and for the OST
planning to use standard Dell PE1950 servers (2x QuadCore + 16 GB Ram) and
for the disk a JBOD (MD1000) steered by the PE1950 internal Raid controller
(Raid-6). Any experience (good or bad) with such a config ?
thanxs,

Multiple subnets, multiple domains and one LDAP
Hi all.
I'm being asked to connect two networks, each having it's own PDC
and it's own LDAP backend. I would like to know if it's possible to make
both PDC's serve each a different domain with a single LDAP backend and
having users from DOMAIN1 roaming to DOMAIN2 and viceversa.
If it's of any use I have, in the past, set up a PDC+BDC
configuration having

Xen 3.2 with Ubuntu 8.04 (64-Bit) on Intel Nehalem (i7)
Hallo list,
i am testing a Dell M610 with two quadcore Intel Nehalem CPUs at the
moment, so with Hyper-Threading 16 cores in total. As mentioned in the
subject I am using Ubuntu 8.04 64Bit and Xen 3.2 from Ubuntu package.
During these tests I hit on some issues, which are not clear to me. I
would be thankful for any comments/hints/thoughts on the following topics:

Too much init_sam_from_ldap...
Hi !
I'm working in a educational administration, i've made a domain with
a Samba 3.4.1 PDC with a LDAP backend. When a user log into an XP
Workstation, i see in the log file a lot of "init_sam_from_ldap". In
fact, instead of scanning only the user who try to connect, a lot of
them are scanned. I've got about 600 account into the LDAP so the time

460 GTX performance on SC 2
Hello,
I'm trying to play SC2 with the following setup, and it's only playable with the lowest settings. I think I've already put in most of the tweaks that people typically point to.
Can I get advice on how I can get reasonable fps for higher settings?
Here's my setup:
GTX 460 1GB
Intel Q6600 2.40ghz Quadcore
3gb memory
nvidia 260.19.06
wine 1.3.3
