Samba 2.2.2 and logfiles
I'm having trouble with the logging in Samba 2.2.2. I usually specify the name of the logfile on the command line (e.g., "nmbd -D -l /path/to/logfiles"). This used to work with Samba 2.2.1a but does not work anymore with Samba 2.2.2. I could not find anything about changes to the logging mechanisms in the 2.2.2 announcement, so I am wondering what's wrong here. Specifying

log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m creates 2 logfiles per client
Hi, I wonder why 2 log files per client (log.$IP and log.$NETBIOSNAME) are created when "log file" ist set to "/var/log/samba/log.%m". I have tested this with Samba 3.0.14a, 3.0.13, 3.0.11, 3.0.10 and 2.2.3a. Samba 2.2.3a was the only release which created only one log file. Is that a bug or is there any sense in saving 2 files with exactly the same content? cheers, karolin

Shell Expansion in logcheck.logfiles
I'm running logcheck on a machine hosting a bunch of virtual machines using vserver, so I'd like to expand shell wildcards in the "logcheck.logfiles" file. So instead of entering /var/lib/vservers/v1/var/log/syslog /var/lib/vservers/v2/var/log/syslog /var/lib/vservers/v2/var/log/syslog I can enter /var/lib/vservers/*/var/log/syslog which gets expanded to the same thing as

Eve Online and Process Monitor Logfiles
Hi Today I did a clean Windows XP install on my partition, latest patches included. What perhaps is more interesting is that I was able to log the ENTIRE installation of EVE_Premium_Setup_185699_m.exe 649MB. After updating to (build?) 197121 I also logged some gameplay (3-8MB): Exiting station, warping to gate, changing jukebox track, dock to station og exit the game. Did not get to log the

Are logfiles generated for for wine sessions?
I've installed my first Windows 32-bit app, which ran just fine. I was a bit concerned how to specify the paths for the installer, since there are no C: D; etc. Surprisingly the installer went fine, and I was able to launch the app. Some (wine) error messages were displayed while the app was running. I'm wondering if it would help to send the logfile to the developers so they can

colorized logfiles in asterisk 1.6.0.6
Hello ! I've upgraded our testsystem from asterisk 1.4.21 to asterisk 1.6.0.6. We 've noticed that the log files are now in colour. I could not find a note in the upgrade section about this. Is this a feature or a bug ? It might be usefull to have them not in colour. best regards Hans

Relocation of logfiles in logwatch
Hi, I try to teach logwatch that some of my logfiles are relocated. E.g., mail mailog now lives in mail/info and secure has moved too auth/info. I adjusted /etc/logwatch/conf/logfiles/SERVICE.conf accordingly but logwatch does not understand. What is the right way to adapt logwatch to the new reality? icecast2 setup problem - unable to open logfiles
Hi, I'm setting up icecast2 on a Mac OSX. I can't get it to run because icecast complains about being unable to start logging - however, I'm pretty sure the logfiles are accessible. The relevant part of the config file is: <paths> <basedir> /Users/dan/icecasting </basedir> <logdir> /Users/dan/icecasting/logs </logdir> <webroot>

Not reopening logfiles when HUPing
Hi, I thought that HUPing the master smbd process (and/or the child processes) was supposed to cause the logfiles to be reopened? This does not appear to happen on our installation (2.0.4b2, Solaris 2.6). If I make a connection to a share, rename the logfile and HUP/delete the daemon (either parent or child), a new file is not created. Alternatively, how about a feature where we can signal

How do people cycle/archive logfiles?
Hi, I'm just wondering how other people cycle and archive their Samba logfiles. We're running 2.0.5a which I understand has a bug which causes the logfiles not to be closed/reopened (after cycling the names to .old). Currently, I've got a 'max log size' and I check every so often to see if any .old files have appeared, rename to include the date/time and zip up into an

Sort logfiles on common lines?
I have a huge mysql.log file full of errors. I'd like to sort it by the most common line, and work from there. I did go through the manpage for sort, and googled a bit, but I found nothing relevant. Here is an example of the output: [root@ log]# tail mysqld.log 110925 11:05:35 [ERROR] /usr/libexec/mysqld: Incorrect key file for table './ox_data_summary_ad_hourly.MYI'; try to repair it

Samba crashes & floods logfiles: "smbd/notify_inotify.c:244(inotify_handler) - No data on inotify fd?!"
Dear Group members! Since I have set up a Samba PDC-Server (openSUSE 11.2-64bit with default package Samba 3.4.3) approx. 8 months ago, I have encountered 3 or 4 times a severe crash of Samba. What happens is that all over a sudden Samba floods /var/log/messages and /var/log/warn with the following message (cropped out date/time/servername, etc.): smbd[19724]:

Sort logfiles at rotation time
Hi, I want to be certain that my apache and varnish logfiles are in strict date order when rotated. I'd like to run a sort command against them before they're compressed. I've had a look at the logrotate man page, and it looks like I can use a postrotate/endscript to do this. However, I can see any reference in the documentation for how to operate on the file. All the examples
