Which hylafax client ?
Hi,
Which Hylafax client do you use.
I'm after something cheap, you could use from Windows XP, as a virtual
printer and that could retrieve fax numbers from an existing directory
(Windows Address Book or Outlook or LDAP).

Running the function below, tested using the cardiff dataset from

The contrast and Design libraries
Dear all,
I have been using the contrast library in my teaching for the last couple
of years and am right in the middle of this year's round. In the last week
R has been updated to version 2.14.0 on our computers. This has had the
unfortunate effect of meaning the contrasts library no longer works, as
the Design library is no longer available. I wonder if anyone has a fix
for this...or

Symantec Miniview.exe
Hi: I get emails with *.FXM files attached that are faxes forwarded by
WinFax Pro. The message attached says to download Miniview.exe from the
Symantec web site which I did and it appears to run in under WINE except
that the faxes show up in black. Curiously when I laterally resize the
viewer I can view the fax but as soon as I stop resizing it the fax reverts
to a blaxk screen. I attempted to

Sweave and font problems
Dear All,
Having now successfully started using Sweave, I have just noticed an odd
side effect with fonts.
Using plain LaTeX, I have had no problems using \usepackage{palatino} or
\usepackage{times} and the font correctly changes.
However, once I convert the tex document into Snw, and run it through R
CMD SWEAVE, LaTeX seems to ignore this package directive. The LaTeX log
suggests the font

Distributed FAX - How to best complement asterisk ?
Hi list,
I'm evaluating a private telephony scenario of about 20
locations - 300 phones, 50 FAX machines.
Initial overview points to the installation of asterisk at three
locations connected to the PSTN via ISDN PRI.
All other locations, small by themselves, would get SIP
phones managed by asterisk, since there is good IP
connectivity between all sites.
Now on to the

How to test impact of candidate changes to package?
I use a package to contain simple functions that can be handled by unit tests for correctness and more complex functions that combine the simple functions with business logic. Where there are proposals to change either the simple functions or the business logic, a sample needs to be run before the change and then after it to understand the impact of the change.
I do this currently by

RODBC and NULL values
Dear All,
Writing sooner than I thought I'd need to.
I'm using R 2.4 on Mac OS X, with RODBC, PostgreSQL 8.1 and Actual's
ODBC driver. I have all my data in Filemaker 8.5, but it is
automatically exported into PostgreSQL for analysis as Filemaker's ODBC
and JDBC access is awful, slow and has a tendency to crash.
I have disability data where for each patient there is a survival

multiple GLMs with lmList in lme4
I'd like to fit a GLM to each of a number of subsets of some data. The `family' argument to `lmList' (in lme4) has given me cause for optimism, but so far I've only been able to achieve linear model fits. For example
> df <- data.frame(gp = gp.temp <- factor(rep(1:3, each = 100)),
x = x.temp <- rnorm(300),
y = rpois(300, exp((-1:1)[gp.temp] + x.temp)))

I haven't seen this mentioned and presumably Dr. Deepayan Sarkar is
too polite to advertise!

Samba Problem
Hi
this is really a last resort as I'm literally pulling my hair
out over AIX and Samba and cannot find any threads on this particular
issue.
Basically we have 3 systems running AIX 5.1 and Samba 2.2.7
We upgraded one system to Aix 5.2 and everything works no problem.
Upgraded the next two and both will not join the domain using
the smbpasswd -j domain-name -r ny0000000 -U

Coefficient names when using lm() with contrasts
Dear R Users,
Am using lm() with contrasts as below. If I skip the contrasts()
statement, I get the coefficient names to be
> names(results$coef)
[1] "(Intercept)" "VarAcat" "VarArat" "VarB"
which are much more meaningful than ones based on integers.
Can anyone tell me how to get R to keep the coefficient names based on the
factor levels

Savin Copier Print Processor
I have FreeBSD 5.3 running on an Sun Ultra 10. I installed Samba 3.03, from patching SWAT now says version 3.07. I am having an issue printing from Windows through Samba to Savin copiers (model 9935DPE and 9945DPE) when downloading the Windows drivers directly from the [print$] share. When I print a test page, the orientation of the lettering is correct but the letters are gibberish. The

GDI Printer problem
Hi,
we have a new printer here (OKI C5650). It's a GDI printer
attached to our cups server. I installed the windows driver
as root on the print share without any problems.
However it's not working. When a user maps the printer
only a message appears "printing not possible".
So I looked at the printserver and compared everything with
a local printer on my XP notebook and found

Show number at risk on Kaplan Meier curve
Dear all,
I'm using the "survival" package with R 2.4.0 on Mac OS X 10.4.8.
I have two core statistics books (one of which is Altman's medical stats
book) which suggest showing the number of individuals at risk at
different time intervals on the Kaplan-Meier curve.
My plot shows two curves that later cross, because of one significant
outlier.
I have two queries:
Is there an
