Re: Asterisk bandwidth tuning?
I have an installation that connects in a [very] good day at 22kbps, but the normal is
about 18kbps.
I use de ILBC codec, and also change in iax.conf the
trunkfreq = 20
to
trunkfreq = 30
It works, you can understand well the other person, but don't expect miracles or an
outstanding sound quality.

Re: Asterisk bandwidth tuning?
Well, I don't know how to tune it more, it connects at about that rate in a mediocre
rural landline.
ILBC uses samples of 30ms, so if you set the trunkfreq set to 20 you will be using more
of the necesary scarce bandwidth AND dropping sample info in each frame, thus making
audio choppy and unclear.
Make shure to disallow all codecs and then allow only ILBC or lpc10 (search for it in

Out of trunk data space on call number 16386, dropping
Hi all,
We keep getting these and all the calls between these two asterisk boxes get
dropped. what is going on here, I have been trying to solve this problem on
my own but maybe I don't have the trunk setup right. also I have posed the
output of my full log of the machine with the zap interface, the other is
using ztdummy.

Help with connecting 2 servers via iax
I have successfully configured two servers and I am now trying to connect
via iax. When I attempt to call from one ext, 2006(server viop1) to
extension 3006 (server voip2) I receive a timeout or "call failed 403
forbidden.
The information I am receiving from the console is below.

Shared mboxes
I've been looking at some documentation on shared mail accounts. But I'm
getting mixed thoughts on how this can or should be done.
I use mbox for all my pop and imap folders since I've converted from a
uw-imap server. The first thing that makes me wonder about setup is that
I've been told to not use maildir and mbox on the same machine, although
I'm not really sure why

Gluster 3.2.6 for XenServer
Hi,
I have Gluster 3.2.6 RPM's for Citrix XenServer 6.0. I've installed and mounted exports, but that's where I stopped.
My issues are:
1. XenServer mounts the NFS servers SR subdirectory, not the export. Gluster won't do that.
-- I can, apparently, mount the gluster export somewhere else, and then 'mount --bind' the subdir to the right place
2. I don't really know

Forwarding SIP over IAX problem: No One Available
I'm hoping someone can help me out with this. I am basically just
trying to separate my outbound and inbound calls into separate contexts
instead of having everything in a single context. Any help would be
appreciated. Perhaps I've missed something really obvious....
Here is the network layout:

Bandwidth optimisation
OS: CentOS 5.0 x86.
Hi, I am using CentOS 5.0 at home, ADSL ~16 Mbps/~1 Mbps Internet
connection and my ping time to my ISP is 160-170 msec.
When downloading something with Firefox, I am getting download speeds of
about 100-180 KB/sec (for example when downloading SP2 of XP from MS
server).
Are the CentOS networking settings OK for this kind of latency, or do I
have to change some settings?

array extraction
hello everyone.
Look at the following R idiom:
a <- array(1:30,c(3,5,2))
M <- (matrix(1:15,c(3,5)) %% 4) < 2
a[M,] <- 0
Now, I think that "a[M,]" has an unambiguous meaning (to a human).
However, the last line doesn't work as desired, but I expected it
to...and it recently took me an indecent amount of time to debug an
analogous case. Just to be explicit, I would

Problem with IAX trunking
Hi all,
I'm trying to get IAX2 trunking between two * boxes and am having
extreme difficulty :) What happens is when the sending * server (the one
initiating the call) receives the ACCEPT back from the receiving server
it immediately replies with INVAL. I've checked the code and it seems to
be not matching the accept packet with the relevant item in the iaxs
array due to the following

Maximum tollerable lag/jitter for IAX2 w/o jitterbuffer enabled?
I'm having a problem with intersite calls over IAX2 being abruptly
terminated. Nothing odd shows in any of the logs for Asterisk or the host.
The only think I can think it might be is a lag-spike on the site to site
connection.
How sensitive is IAX2 to lost frames, lag spikes or large variations in
jitter with the GSM codec and:
bandwidth=low
jitterbuffer=no
trunkfreq=100 ; Raised from

hello,
I have a test setup with 2 asterisk servers, each having a one snom 100
via sip using it. I`m experimenting on how trunking between them would
work. I have them setup for RSA authentication which I plan to use in
the future.
So I`ve setup the keys and servers seem authenticate to each other. One

Here is what I see on phila:

IAX2 REACHABLE/UNREACHABLE
All,
I have an issue with IAX that I can't comprehend. Approximately every eight
minutes my servers go unreachable. They stay unreachable for exactly 10ms.
I have two servers running IAX and it happens on both servers
simultaneously. I have searched the archives and see similar issues, but
not the exact same one. I am on the current CVS stable version of *.
Also, during IAX calls,

Fw: IAX Bandwidth Question
Subject: Re: [Asterisk-Users] IAX Bandwidth Question
Hi,
I have changed the codec to lpc10 (I see what they mean by Mr. Roboto!!)
and
the ping times generally dont go over 300ms.
It seems very odd that GSM saturates the link.
I would love to give g.723.1 a try but have no idea where to get the
proprietary codec... can anyone help?
Thanks
Jay

bandwidth cosume - iax
When I'm connected with two clients in the same LAN of the asterisk server
using the same codec and the IAX protocol, I have no media passing through
the asterisk. But, when these clients are on the Internet, all the media
flow pass through the asterisk server. Is that way that it works? I can't
see what is the difference.
Thank you and I'm so sorry for my poor english.

Speex and bandwidth usage on Asterisk's IAX
So I think that that final result is pretty amazing.
That's 35% less bandwidth usage than G.729. Even without
the preprocessors help you do 17% better.

Steve Davies

(newby) IAX Trunk on low bandwidth connection
Hello everyone, this is my first post to the list, so hello again.
We're a small company in Romania and we're trying to set up a really small
version of "call center". That is, we want to get a few land-lines from our
telco in different countys and "bridge" all calls to our HQ, in order to
make it cheeper for our clients to call us.
Unfortunatelly there's no ISP

IAX Bandwidth Question
Hi,
I am using IAX to communicate between 2 sites, each site is using a 256k/64k ADSL Connection.
I have noticed that when I connect my ping time to my 1st hop jumps from 30~ms to over 12,000ms in over a period of about 10 minutes, it just keeps climbing until the link is saturated.
Naturally, there is a very long delay when speaking.
What bandwidth would be adequate for IAX? or how can I

Speex and bandwidth usage on Asterisk's IAX
Hi,
I've just joined the list. Thanks Jean-Marc and other contributors
for your efforts with Speex.
Anyway - I've been hired by a local firm to investigate,
write-code-as-required and generally help them get the maximum
bang-for-the-byte for VOIP traffic on the hyperexpensive Internet
bandwidth going out of South Africa.
I started the process by doing some methodical measurements and

IAX2 Channels & Bandwidth
Hi all,
I'm using VOIPJET to make international calls with an IAX2 connection
between my local asterisk server and their server(s).
At times I seem to have a problem if 5 or more international calls are made
at once - I'm on a 1024kbps download and 256kbps upload DSL line (only the
asterisk server uses this DSL line). Today I switched the codec from ulaw
to ilbc in an attempt to lower
