R GUI For Which User?
I also agree with Philippe Grosjean that there is a need to investigate the
effects of different types of GUIs on software "usability". To do that,
however, there is a need to develop a set of appropriate metrics, and to
understand that the appropriateness of a given metric (and ultimately a given
type of GUI) is likely to be conditional on the type of user.
My sense is that the

References of R in use
Dear R-users and expeRts,
can anyone provide me (and others as well, of course) with reference of
companies, scientific labs and/or schools where R is being used?
Or does some (even unofficial) list of comanies etc. where R is being used
exist?
I tried to find such an information on R's homepage and on a FAQ page, but
unsuccesfully.
(Of course, searching through this r-help conference one

How to disable day light saving on Snom 360 phones?
Greetings,
Sounds like a simple thing to do, but I was not able to do it on these
particular phones. Snom wiki was not helpful. My client wants to keep his
phones pointed to UTC time, no DST, no change in timezone, i.e. to stay at 0
hours difference.
The phones are provisioned from a tftp server.
If I remove 'dst' value from the provisioning file, on bootup phones force
users to pickup

broken behavior with `look`
Hey everybody,
I'm having a strange problem with a hosted CentOS environment. I like
to use `look` to correct my spelling. But it isn't willing to help me
with the word "manager":
#>look man | wc -l

#>look mana | wc -l

#>grep "^mana" /usr/share/dict/words | wc

Transparent Bands in R
Hello All,
My question is regarding the attached plot. I would like to have multiple
transparent green bands running the length (yaxis) of the plot the width of
which is determined by the green lines at y=0 in the plot. Can you suggest a
way to do it?
For those who can't or are unwilling to download the file the plot is at

SNOM, g722 and 16 kHz audio
Hi there,
I've been playing with a SNOM 360 and 190 trying to get them talk to each
other using g722 with 16 kHz. However all I see in the SIP log codec
negotiation is "g722/8000" which makes me believe that this is only a 8
kHz link (and that's what it sounds like).
Anyone every managed to establish a 16 kHz wideband call between SNOM
phones?
Cheers, Philipp

Counterstrike 1.6 lag and full screen issues
Hey all, just upgraded to wine 1.2rc7 and am noticing an issue while playing cs1.6. I'll be playing in full screen mode when all of a sudden my regular xcursor will "pop-up" over my crosshair and intense lag starts up (FPS < ~5). It's almost as if something is competing with counterstrike for video output. Anyways, I've found that if I alt tab, then alt tab back, it fixes

Guidelines for CentOS Mailing List posts
Some people don't know how to conduct themselves on usenet
and mailing lists. Despite the mailing list guidelines
being crystal clear about no html posting and not top-posting
we have people still doing so. People still use text-readers to
access the mailing list so you could be denying access to these
people by flouting the mailing list guidelines.
This is an example of top-posting

R 4.0 for ARM processors
Dear R-SIG-Debian folks,
I seem to be chasing my tail, despite having a simple goal:
- Install R 4.0.2
- On Ubuntu 20.04
- For an ARM processor (not Intel/AMD).
Can someone please suggest a Debian/Ubuntu repository of the required packages (e.g., r-base-core) built for ARM? I can't seem to find one.
(I can find the r-base-core package for R 3.6.3, but not R 4.0.2, built for ARM.)

regexten & regcontext broken for SIP?
Hi ho,
is there anyone out here that is making use of the regcontext and
regexten settings in sip.conf? I've tried this on two Asterisk boxes
(1.2.10 and 1.2.12.1) and in both cases I don't see the Noop priority 1
being created upon SIP client registration, "show dialplan xxx" reveals
no change.
And yes, I have also read and checked bug 7144; if I go down that route

Help with calculating entropy of data
Hello All,
My question is not directly related to R but rather on which statistical
method I should look in to for capturing the entropy of a data-set as a
number. In this figure http://www.twitpic.com/18sob5 are two data sets blue
and green (x-axis is time) that fluctuate between (-1,+1). Clearly, green
has 4 jumps while blue has 1 (and a some?). Intuitively, green has more
entropy than blue. Is

mapping of disconnect reasons
Hi All,
Is there a way to change the mappings of disconnect reasons to certain SIP messages? E.G. I need to change the mapping for SIP 402 ?Payment Required? from 16 (normal termination) like it is in 1.4.24 to 21 (call rejected) as defined in RFC 3398. For me this is a big issue because my dial plan will look for alternative termination in the event of network error (e.g. reason 3 or 21 which is
