Validations based on associations
My model is very simple, it''s mostly just a join table that represents
which tournaments a user has registered for.
class Registration < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :user
belongs_to :tournament
validates_presence_of :user_id, :tournament_id
validates_uniqueness_of :user_id, :scope => :tournament_id
end

Radrails and RSpec
Hi all,
Does anyone know how to get radrails to use RSpec specs instead of tests?
Cheers

Helper methods starting with should_ get picked up as examples?
Hi!
I recently updated my rspec and rspec_on_rails plugins to the tip of
the trunk and ran into an issue with helper methods with names
starting with should_ in my describe blocks. Fictive example to show
what I''m talking about:
describe Order do
it "Can be paid for" do
...
should_have_paid(user)
end
def should_have_paid(user)
end
end

RSpec
Hi RSpec Mailing list,
I''m new to RSpec and I am trying to get it running with the caboo.se sample
rails app.
I installed the current version of rspec with rspec_on_rails
I tried to run rake spec but received:
330-07:~/desktop/restful_auth_rspec/vendor multimedia$ rake spec

Coding standards and whitespace
Recently as a result of using Git I''ve noticed a number of
inconsistencies in the RSpec codebase with respect to whitespace
(mixed line endings, mixed use of spaces and tabs for indentation,
and trailing whitespace at the end of lines). I never would have
noticed, but Git produces nice colorized diff output which highlights
these kinds of inconsistencies.
I wanted to ask if the

problem with rspec_on_rails and @controller.should_receive(:render) in trunk
Hey guys!
I am using rspec trunk, and I am having a little problem with the
latest version. (I am quite sure this worked with an older version
about a week ago)
heres the spec:
it "should render the new user form without layout for a xhr request" do
@controller.should_receive(:render).with(:layout=>false)
xhr :get,:new
end
and the controller:

helper methods starting with should
Hi all,
As an experiment in playing nice with others, we''ve added the ability
in rspec''s trunk to do this:
class ThingExamples < Spec::ExampleGroup
def should_do_stuff
...
end
end
This is how rspec 0.1 worked, and for people already comfortable with
the classes/methods approach of Test::Unit, it is a more comfortable
entry point to rspec.
For others, however, it

include Helper in context?
Brandon,
can you get your Helpers to work in rspec 0.7 ? I''m including them in
the context but the render fails to see it.
If you have it working, I''ll go back and bang my head against it some
more, otherwise I''ll file a bug!
Many thanks,

template.expects_render?
Hi All,
I''m trying to make use of template.expects_render, is outlined in
David''s post(http://blog.davidchelimsky.net/articles/2007/06/28/
template-expects_render). I get an undefined method error on
expects_render. I made sure I had the 1.0.8 gem as well as
reinstalling the plugin and redoing the bootstrap. Still no luck. So
I created a clean project, installed the

Documentation Nit
I''m trying to wrap my head around rspec_on_rails and ran into the
following documentation nit:
-------- what it says --------
You can specify :template, :text, or :action.
controller.should_render :template=>"path/to/template/for/action"
controller.should_render :text=>"expected text"
controller.should_render :action=>"expected_action"

Just upgraded to 1.0.0, should render_text isn''t working for me
I finally got around to upgrading from 0.8.2 (!!). I had a spec which
looked like
specify "should render abc123" do
controller.should_render :text => "abc123"
get :key
end
With 1.0.0, the new spec is
it "should render abc123" do
get :key
response.should render_text("abc123")
end
However it doesn''t work, giving me the error:

should_eql etc?
Hi, I''m trying the specs for restful_authentication I found here
http://jonathan.tron.name/articles/2007/01/02/rspec-on-rails-restful-
authentication
It seems to use custom .should methods: should_eql,
should_be_an_instance_of, should_redirect_to, should_be_success,
should_not_be_nil, should_be_nil, should_not_be_nil, should_be_empty,
should_be_success, should_not_change, and

helper spec not finding rails core helpers
Hi,
My helper specs were going ok until I added a call to a rails
DateHelper method in one of my helpers
http://api.rubyonrails.com/classes/ActionView/Helpers/
DateHelper.html#M000574
The helper runs fine from my view templates, just dies in the spec test.
I boiled my question down to a simple (not too useful) example. I''m
not sure what I''m missing.

should_redirect_to in advance - feels unnatural
I can understand that it''s easier for rspec to set up a mock in advance
of the controller call. But it makes it difficult to do something like:
context "The HarkController, given Louie the logged-in user" do
setup do
post :login, :username => ''louie'', :password => ''atest''
end
specify "should redirect Louie to the home

rspec 1.0.x and liquid?

with an error like

rspec model testing - test on user defined validation- How do I test that the create failed.
I''m new to rspec and looking for way to test a validation I added to a model.
The test checks to see that if field1 has a value then field2 must be nil
and vice versa.

When I did the rspec_scaffold it generated one test which worked

RCov results seem to include the spec files
I saw the RCov page at http://rspec.rubyforge.org/tools/rcov.html and
decided to add it to my project. My rakefile looks like this:

require "spec/rake/spectask"
desc "Run all specs with RCov"
Spec::Rake::SpecTask.new("spec:rcov") do |t|
t.spec_files = FileList["spec/**/*_spec.rb"]
