ssh closing file descriptors for ControlPersist
Hi all, we were discussing internally how to make openssh leave open file descriptors that were open before main using LD_PRELOAD. Lately I filled upstream bugzilla [1] with proposed solution, that could be acceptable by upstream, but I'm also posting on this list to get more attention, other points of view or ideas for this case. I understand well, that closing FDs is important for

sshd fails to close open file descriptors when forking
I don't like to be the bearer of bad news, but... In light of the big "ssh hangs on logout" thread (wherein the true culprit was identified as being programs that don't close inherited file descriptors), I find it somewhat ironic that one of those "broken daemon" programs that doesn't close its open fds is sshd. :( http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3

[PATCH] lib: command: switch from select() to poll()
select() has a maximum value for the FDs it can monitor, and since the libguestfs library can be used in other applications, this limit may be hit by users in case lots of FDs are opened. As solution, switch to poll(): it has a slightly better interface to check what changed and for which FD, and it does not have a limit in the value of the FDs monitored. poll() is supported on the platforms we

Broken pipe of stdinpcm on asterisk-ices.xml
hi, I installed icecast-2.2.0.tar.gz and ices-2.0.1.tar.gz on Fedora3 linux-2.6.12-1.1372_FC3). It works fine for playlist.ogg from the other CPU, such as 'xmms http://192.168.0.3:8000/listplay.ogg'. But when I use 'stdinpcm' like 'asterisk-ices.xml' which send voip's voice udp packets to 'asterisk-ices.xml' such as; .......(snip)...... <stream>

Plots automatically closing when using RScript
I would like to be able to run an R script from the command line using RScript.exe. The problem is, my script generates some plots which are being automatically closed as soon as the script reaches its end. Is there a way to force the plot windows to remain open until the user explicitly closes them? Example: Rscript --vanilla -e "plot(1:100)" The above line will create a plot that

File descriptor leak (?) in Python
Hi all, Recently I have upgraded a Python application from Xapian 1.0.7 to 1.2.2 in order to use the PostingSource class. It is a long-running process, and I am seeing the number of open file descriptors to the Xapian database steadily increase. I suspect what I am seeing is some kind of resource leak. I have no idea if it is a problem in our code or in the Xapian Python bindings. How do I debug

[nbdkit PATCH v2 10/17] plugins: Add .fork_safe field
Allow a plugin field to declare whether a parallel plugin can tolerate windows where fds are not CLOEXEC, or must take precautions to avoid leaking fds if the plugin may fork. For safety reasons, the flag defaults to off, but many in-tree plugins can set it to on (most commonly because they don't fork after .config_complete; for libvirt because it is documented to clean up fds on fork so it
