fedora core 3 kernel source - could someone throw the dog a bone!
Ok, don't flame me, I know this is a question with an obvious answer to
some, but I am not one of them.
Installed FC3, but this time I decide to update since my ISOs are a bit
old, so typical yum update
Downloaded the FC3 SRPM for my kernel 2.6.12...
Installed the SRPM package
Ran rpmbuild -bp -target=i686 kernel-2.6.spec

Fedora Core 3 or Fedora Core 4? yum update o r not? also: SpanDSP -pre25 for 1.0.9 is out w00t!
Word. I'm doing a dupe of my production server this week as a CYA. Guess
what: FC2. Once I yum update to the current kernel, no more yum. There's no
reason to. You may have your own reasons (publicly avaliable server, for
example) but why add uncertainty to an, at best, quite uncertain process
(that of creating a stable Asterisk install given random hardware, network
conditions, PSTN

Wine on Fedora Core 4: Street Atlas 8 & wineconsole issues
I just did a fresh installation of Fedora Core 4, using my home
directories from FC3, including my .wine.
In the FC3 environment, I had used winetools to install. I did not
want to do a fresh installation of wine, just use an RPM that would
work. Alas, I had to fall back to 20041201.
SA 8:
I installed and uninstalled wine-20050524-1fc3winehq.athlon.rpm,

fedora core 3 kernel source - couldsomeonethrowthe dog a bone!
The issue I have had with all other FC3 kernels apart from the 2.6.9 one
was that the zaptel build would throw lots of warnings up. This would
have the knock on of hanging the system, spinlock I think the problem
was, on a modprobe -r.

Follow-Up: R on FC4
Dear List,
A few weeks ago a discussion took place regarding Fedora Core 4 and
compiling R on that platform using the new version 4 of gcc and its
gfortran compiler.
gcc was recently updated to 4.0.1 on FC4 (4.0.1-5 in Red Hat Land) so I
thought I'd give compiling R a go on my laptop which needed updating
anyway. I've had trouble using the optimisation flags I used to use
under FC3 with

fedora core 3 kernel source - could someone throwthe dog a bone!
I found that only the kernel is installed. I'd avoid 2.6.12 for now as
I had problem with the zaptel driver and stay with 2.6.9.
Regards
Lee

What was the issue with zaptel and 2.6.12?

Oh, sorry, I should have clarified.
What I meant by "wait a year" was the time from the first .0 or

R 2.2.2-1 RPM build problem and solution on RH AS 4 x86_64
I have a dual Xeon x86_64 system running Red Hat AS 4. There are no
x86_64 rpms in http://cran.us.r-project.org/bin/linux/redhat/el4/ (the
i386 ones are a point release behind anyway) , and the fc4 rpms have a
whole web of dependencies I don't want to pull in. So I decided to
build http://cran.us.r-project.org/bin/linux/redhat/SRPMS/R-2.2.1-1.fc3.src.rpm
.
When I ran rpmbuild. one of the

You are indeed correct (I must have been looking at the RHEL3 dir**):

Where do my RPMs actually go, and is it different for Red Hat builds?
I'm trying to install themes for KDE. In doing so, I came across the
following web site which seems to have the themes I want as RPMs:
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/17/dept/3/idg/User+Interface_Desktop
The theme I want is called "Thinkeramik", and it has the following
versions, for various Red Hat builds:
thinkeramik-3.2.1-1.0.el3.kde.i386.rpm RedHat EL 3

Fedora Core 4 system lockup with wine 200506.. - 0.9.1
System specs:
Fedora Core 4

ATI Radeon 9200 SE
P4 2.4Ghz (hyperthreading)
xorg 6.8.2
Aureal Semiconductor Vortex 2 sound card

wine-20050524 FC3 rpm works just fine on my FC4 system. But any
versions after that lockup my system when running wine. For the 200506

totally confused, samba flipflop fuctionality
It's working from the linux box and not the xp then
it's not
Yes I try making corrections and this probably
accounts for the confusion and broken samba
communication. I just never seem to be able to come
up with a working working configuration.
Exception: smbclient; I can mount the XP share in a
directory on my Linux box or at least the last time I
checked.
I have to turn off the

Centos vs FC
Hi all,
I hope I'm not starting a flame war.
I'm installing Centos 4.2 for a mail server. I've been experimenting with,
Centos before, and now wanting to put it into a real action as mail server.
Can someone pls tell me the up and down between Centos and FC?
I'm familiar with FC4 and some things that I like from it:
1. The available packages are abundant. Very easy to find

Fedora Core 4
I had installed R from source on Fedora Core 3. Then I upgraded
to Fedora Core 4, but left R alone. R worked fine, until I trued
to update.packages(). Even then, many packages updated just
fine, but two of them, cluster and mgcv, failed with the
following error message (using cluster as an example):
gcc -shared -L/usr/local/lib -o cluster.so clara.o daisy.o
dysta.o fanny.o meet.o mona.o pam.o

fedora core 4 + mysql 5 + dovecot
hi all
just a quick question
i have dovecot (0.99.14 yum install) running on my fc4 server
to get this working, i had to downgrade from mysql 5 to fedora's mysql rpm's
i really would prefer to use mysql 5, but to satisfy the dependencies, i
had to go to mysql 4
now, i just want to know if there is an rpm (linux rather than specific
fc4 version is fine) out there for dovecot, that i
