Any mountain clustering method in R?
Dear all,
I wonder which R algorithm could perform a mountain clustering in an spatial
grid, in other words, having the coordinates of a map (x,y ... or even more)
and then the altitude/height at each point I would like to localise the
peaks of that topological surface. Which R algorithm can perform this? I see
it as a clustering problem where the peak should be at the center of each
cluster.

Existing windows server to XEN howto?
I would like to move an existing W2K3 install onto my new super duper
xen box -- Installing linux based machine is no issue, it''s the windows
ones that keep getting me. I have Acronis which we usually use for bare
metal restores, and it seems that bare metal restores don''t want to work
too well with XEN, any assistance/help/ideas ?

Cacti Installation on CentOS 5
Dear All,
I am attempting to install cacti on CentOS 5.3 64 bit, and I checked the
wiki, only to find that the instructions are a bit out of date. Have
these instructions been updated somewhere, or does anyone have updated
instructions, maybe with known gotchas etc?

Kind Regards,
Mr Gabriel

Cloned Centos Boxes - First Run to run again?
I need to build a bank of 12 centos boxes, for an experiment I'm doing.
I don't want to install centos 12 times, I'm using virtual box across
three machines, how can I get the first run scripts to run again to that
the box is reconfigured on it's next boot.
I want each box to appear like a fresh unique install.

Best Practice Advice?
Dear All,
I have a asterisk setup that is currently running on version 1.4.15 - I
wish to upgrade or migrate this instance to the current asterisk stable,
1.6.0.6. It is my intention to build a FC8 box, then install asterisk
from source, and begin to migrate over the configuration. The thing is,
this sounds so simple in my head, and I've had enough issues with
asterisk, to know that life

Using CentOS on commercial product.
Hello,
I've sent this mail when I didn't subscribe this mailing list.
Now I subscribe and I sent again.
I'm sorry to bother you.
Our company make and sell some measurement system controlled by PC.
We use Red Hat Enterprise Linux on the PC currently.
We are thinking CentOS is another option for us.
There is no technical issue but we don't have enough information about license.

CentOS 5.4? anyone? - "debate"
Dear All,
If someone asks a question such as "When is Centos 5.4 coming out" bare
in mind that it may be because they genuinely want to know when it's
coming out, and feel that somehow, they have not been privy to that
information. To me, I see CentOS as a polished professional product
given what it is, a repackaging of RHEL, and to that end I have the
expectation of a fully

System Time Source
Warren, one slight correction on an other wise nicely written bit of info:
The time transmitted from WWV is not Mountain Time. Even though the WWV
transmitter farm is located in the Mountain time zone, the signals are
transmitted as "Coordinated Universal time", UTC, or 'Zulu' time.
Here, you can listen to a recording made at the transmitter site for the
5Mhz signal:

Rendering farm?
I received at least one email suggesting a Windows-based rendering
farm - likely to consist of a few rack systems all running 64-bit
Windows. I read an article on Tomshardware which gave some decent
insight. What can list participants offer on this concept?
I don't care _how_ the resource is implemented - virtual machine,
cluster, etc. I just want to get the most resources for the money,

How to change ONLY the first character of each variable name
Dear R-helpers,
I would like to adapt the following code
> names(data)<-sub("M","MOLE",names(data))
which changes any occurrence of "M" (in my variable names) to "MOLE"
such that it ONLY operates on the first character of each variable
name, i.e. M will only be changed to MOLE if it's the first character
of a variable.
I would appreciate any

I don't doubt this is expected with the current implementation, I doubt
the implementation is desirable. Suggesting to turn this to

thanks for your reply.

That works and I may be can make it work with that using a shell-script
interacting with getmail as Filter. But indeed it's fetching ALL
message-ids. It would be perfect if I could make search query on 'guid

How to fit a line through the "Mountain crest", i.e., through the highest density of points - in a "loess-like" fashion.
Hi,
I'm trying to normalize data by fitting a line through the highest density
of points (in a 2D plot).
In other words, if you visualize the data as a density plot, the fit I'm
trying to achieve is the line that goes through the "crest" of the mountain.
This is similar yet different to what LOESS does. I've been using loess
before, but it does not exactly that as it takes

Before the next release we really should to sort out the bias issue in

https://www.stat.berkeley.edu/~stark/Preprints/r-random-issues.pdf and
filed aa a bug report by Duncan Murdoch at
https://bugs.r-project.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=17494.
Here are two examples of bad behavior through current R-devel:
