Include Exclude .. a canonical way
I'm wrestling with include/exclude rules and not finding a way to do
this:
Simplified command: rsync -avv --exclcude-from=rsync_exclude \
~/ /dest/
Backup ~/ including ~/.kde3.5/share/apps/konqueror/bookmarks.xml
but excluding everything else under ~/.kde3.5
Here are some of what hasn't worked in an EXCLUDE file.

Windowing bug under KDE4.1
I've replaced my video card and am now having MUCH better results with
CounterStrike:Source (I love Wine!). Most of my problems were due to
a defective EVGA 9600GT.
However, I discovered a new windowing bug today with CS:S and other
Source-based games (I verified the same behavior under the Zombie
Panic total conversion) running under KDE4.1 (no Compiz, Kubuntu 8.10b1).
Do this:

printer loss [susepro9.1]-mostly solved-samba the problem?
Hi,
Thanks for the suggestions - the immediate problem is solved. I feel
that a monstrous weight has been lifted.
I tried the suggestions and the printer connection is back -
wonderful!!!!! what a relief!
I stopped the firewall and samba so it is one of them, or both which is
causing the problem?
I would vote for samba3 as the culprit because the printer loss occurred
on both machines on a 2

How accurate is show translation?
Hi all,
I'm using 'show translation' to help dimension my system, but I confused
by the results I get. My 2 test systems (results below): an AthlonXP
2000+ (1.3GHz) and a Pentium D930 (duo-core, 3.0GHz) produced similar
results (D930 is slightly faster). Googling shows that others have
similar results running on other CPU speeds >2.0GHz.
At first glance, it would look like the

[LLVMdev] benchmarking LLVM
Hi all
i took a look into LLVM benchmarks from nightly tester and
ran Shootout tests on my own. Below go just few outlines.
1. results on my AMD AthlonXP and Xeon used by LLVM
team are different sometime. In particular, both Shootout
and Shootout-C++ show great speed up with LLVM (in
comparison to GCC) on ackerman test on my AthlonXP.

R on Windows Hangs on Packages Built from Sources
Hi,
I am currently having the following problem with R 1.9.0. Any package that
contains C or Fortran code hangs after I have built it and load it into R.
I've tried this with RMySQL and udunits, originally I thought I had done
something subtly wrong in configuring these packages; but I just had the
same problem with a simple example R package that I wrote. I was able to
build and load the

Wine and 3D rendering issues
Hi everyone,
I hate to ask n00bish questions, but after several days of forum scouring and searching for answers, I'm at a loss as to where to go next.
I'm a long-time Linux CLI user, but I haven't really played with Wine or many aspects of the GUI-end until recently. I've been trying to get two of my favorite Windows games to run on my Debian Testing install, and keep coming to

R Installation Manual - ATLAS BLAS guidance that is not in the current version
Good afternoon.
I am trying to compile a version of Rblas.dll based on ATLAS for the Corei7. I had remembered that there was mention of which file to adjust and that "xerbla" needed to be removed from one of the outputs from the last time I tried a few years ago. The most recent version of the R Installation manual does not say anything about this. An older version (2.10 I believe) has

Tuned Rblas.dll available on CRAN (for Windows)
There is a new area on CRAN
bin/windows/contrib/ATLAS
which contains Rblas's compiled against ATLAS 3.4.1 for various chips. To
use one of these, just rename rw1051\bin\Rblas.dll and drop the replacment
in its place. Using a tuned BLAS will be noticeably faster only on some
linear-algebra calculations, notably those using La.svd and La.eigen (which
might be twice as fast).

A question on R memory management in .Fortran() calls under Windows
Dear R community,
I have a question on how R manages memory allocation in .Fortran()
calls under Windows.
In brief, apparently, it is not possible to allocate large matrices
inside a Fortran subroutine
unless you pass them as arguments. If you do not act in this way
RGUI crashes with a stack overflow error and acting on memory through
vsize nsize ppsize and memory.limit does not help at all.

Matrix efficiency in 1.9.0 vs 1.8.1
I'm seeking some advice on effectively using the new Matrix
library in R1.9.0 for operations with large dense matrices. I'm working on
integral operator models (implemented numerically via matrix operations)
and except for the way entries are generated, the examples below really are
representative of my problem sizes.
My main concern is speed of large dense matrix multiplication.

MS-Office 2003 crashes when loading documents
I've had a problem with opening existing documents for some time now, but attributed the problem to the number of upgrades my computer has been through. However last week I installed a copy of Ubuntu Maverick and KDE3.5 on a freshly-wiped machine, and I'm still having the same problems. Hopefully someone can help? I have a laptop running ubuntu karmic, and Office 2003 runs fine from

ctdb do not start nmbd if serving AD
ctdb 2.5.3 dual node file server with 4.1.9 serving AD domain
Hi
We have enabled the script at:
/etc/cdb/events.d/50.samba
but when we are the enabled node, it starts not only smbd but also nmbd.
This doesn't make sense in an AD domain. I've tried disabling nmbd
starting under openSUSE's systemd but ctdb overrides that, I've had a
look at the script but can't decipher the bit
