plotting a timeline
I was trying to recreate this kind of timeline plot:
http://www.vertex42.com/ExcelArticles/create-a-timeline.html
As you can see in their excel example, the events are nicely placed out on
both sides of the timeline axis.
AFAIK there is no function to do this nicely in R-project. Furthermore,
graphics and lattice packages are unable to draw the x-axis in the middle of
the plot. (datapoints

Do I need to defile my machine, or is there a simple work-around
I am trying to install Microchip's MPLab package (a set of tools for
working with PIC microcontrollers) with the latest Wine from CVS (at
least, latest as of yesterday morning).
I've been running Wine for a while, so I already have an existing Wine
registry. I don't have a Windows install on the machine.
The installer (InstallShield) unpacks, runs, and then pops up a dialog

Routing incoming call based on caller id
I am not that good at regex and it's use in Asterisk. I am running
Asterisk 1.4.13
Currently I have this in my extensions.conf for incoming calls on our
house phone line:
[housemenu]
exten => s,1,GotoIF($["${CALLERID(num)}" = "815xxxxxxx"]?s|12);
815xxxxxxx is our home phone number, when caller id fails or is missing
that is what is recorded.
I want to expand this

Toll-free dialing via PRI problem
We have a PRI from Telepacific. Asterisk 1.2 and a Sangoma A101 T1 card.
Outgoing calls to certain toll-fee (8XX) numbers fail -- we hear ringing but
the calls are never answered. All other calls, and most toll-free numbers
are not affected. The numbers that are affected are all travel related
companies (United Airlines, American Airlines, US Air, Starwood Hotels,
etc.) we cannot connect to

How to detect fake CallerID? (8xx?)
It's probably not practical to have them answering the client's telephone!
At a lot of sites, incoming calls would be handled by auto attendant,
diverted to answering service, etc.

Given a freshly produced quantreg.Rcheck directory, I was able to

iSerialNumber does not need to be unique per device - it is not very many bits wide.
I?m pretty sure I don?t *need* iSerialNumber?I mean, I could just remove it from the report descriptor altogether. But since it is available to give, and we are writing each board?s serial number into flash as part of the micro-controller programming (we aren?t talking a staggering number of boards per year

11.5.0: blindxfer problems [Spam score:10%]
Have you enabled DTMF logging and seen the DTMF codes being recognised by
Asterisk? I had a bunch of soft phones that I had to change to using ?sip
info? for the DTMF signalling as the RFC signalling was not always being
recognised. This would cause transfers to appear as if the user had not
dialled any digits.

Why asterisk down when inet server down?
We have a 10.10.0.0 internal network. The asterisk server - 10.10.10.180
- has a PRI connection to a T-1. Another server is the router to the
internet. All phones in the office and the workstations are on the network.
Most of the internal phones are aastra 9133i's. Here the network config

howto store local exchange prefixes ?
The local telco is now going 10 digit dialing even for local (free)
calls which used to be 7 digit. For a while no problem, everyone will
continue to dial 7 digits, and I'll add the area code. But pretty soon
everyone will become used to 10 digits.
There are about 40 3 digit local exchanges. I'd like to store the
exchanges in a database, and use the dialplan to check them. I can

how to listen on different sip port for a device?
I'm trying to allow access to the office from home. But the ip provider
(cablevision) blocks udp 5060. I can see the register packets leaving on
wireshark, but nothing received by office. Changed to port to 6111 and
now the packets show up.
In the server I've set port=6111 in the device in sip.conf, but * is NOT
listening for 6111:
netstat -an | grep 5060
