ATA shootout: PAP2T versus Grandstream Handytone 286
I'm considering a situation where I buy about twenty ATA devices.
I've played with the Linksys / Cisco PAP2T, and got that working fine
with some inbound and outbound faxing. The web GUI was okay. I'm
seeing prices around $45 to $50 for this thing. It comes with two FXS
ports, but I only need one FXS.
I've seen the Grandstream Handytone 286 online. It looks promising as

looking for a better ATA
I currently us Linksys/Ciscio, Grandstream and AudioCodes ata's. none of
the three perform well in all enviroments. Between stablity issues, T38 and
DTMF talkoff all three suffer some combination of issues.
I am looking at Patton and Innomedia. Has any one tried either brand and
what is your experience with them. Which would be the base for stability,
audio quality, provisioning, DTMF

Provisioning Linksys PAP2T ATA's
Does anyone know how the Linksys PAP2T ATA's can be mass provisioned?
Documentation seems to be sketchy, even on the Linksys web site.
Thanks,
Doug.

wireless ATA
I have a need for an ATA that will register over wifi. *NOT* a DECT phone
or other cordless type phone plugged into a wired ATA.
Not seeing one right off, and following the recent discussions about
compact fanless systems, I thought a custom build-your-own might not only
be useful for my purpose, but may be a viable product in its own right.
So I started looking for mini-PCI based FXS cards.

OT: cisco 7960G powered by 3com 3CNJPSE
Is anyone using a 3com 3CNJPSE to power a 7960G?
I have a couple of 7960Gs and 3CNJPSEs but no combination appears to
work. Both phones work fine with a cisco power cube. I get a 47.6V
reading across pins 5 and 8 on the patch cable coming from the 3CNJPSE.
The network still works through the 3CNJPSE, just no power to the phone
until I connect the power cube. Using two straight through wired

PoE - IEEE 802.3af
Hi,
I'm not clear on how to use Power--over-Ethernet, specifically with Polycom
phones.
What I understand, is that by buying the Polycom 501 with the 802.3af cable
bundle, I simply connect my phone, through the Polycom provided "special"
RJ-45 cable, into a PoE capable switch, and voil?!
Is this true? And if so, what happens when the Phone doesn't connect
directly to the

One way audio...
I have a big headache. I have an Asterisk server connected to an Avaya
PBX. Everything is working between those two. The problem is that I
have 45 PAP2T adapters and 45 SPA3102 adapters that connect via the
Internet to the Asterisk server through a Fortinet firewall. When
calling from a PAP2T I get one way audio, the remote site can hear me
but I cannot hear them. If I do an "rtp

Security - Using Linksys PAP2T from outside with a dynamic IP is there anyway to block all other traffic but those of the PAP2T?
Hi Everyone
I think PAP2T supports DynDNS and other Dynamic DNS providers. I have a box
that needs to be secured at all times. Currently it's not connected to the
internet. If it were connected, I would have iptables block any and all
traffic from outside but I want a single device - Linksys PAP2T - to be able
to connect back to the server. That is a stand alone device and doesn't
support

PAP2T provisioning via SRV record?
Hi all,
I'm trying to provision my PAP2T's to use a SVR lookup to find the Asterisk
server. I'm using a provisioning file that contains an element like:
<Proxy_1_> _sip._udp.example.com </Proxy_1_>
However, the PAP doesn't seem to be able to find my server with this hostname.
The DNS records are in place because my Polycom and Grandstream servers work
just fine.

Best inexpensive home office router for VoIP (QoS with maybe PoE)
Hi,
I'm looking for opinions on the "best value" router to use for home offices.
It should work for a scenario in which there are 3 computers and 2 SIP
phones, handling QoS so that the phones always have higher priority traffic
than the PCs. (and not rely on the phones to do the QoS because some PCs may
not be connected to the phones).
QoS could be based on destination and source

Anyone have a reliable T.38 Solution
Aloha,
We are looking to roll a solution that will have the following network layout:
ISDN-PRI <--> Asterisk <--> T.38 <--> ATA <--> Fax
Does version 1.8 with the Digium fax driver have this capability? I
like 1.8 because it is a long term support version.
What ATA's are people using?
Any working solutions would be great!
Aloha,
Matt

sounds like they''re working on it, though.

Leap year? Election year? Will your GoToIfTime() dialplan function
properly on Feb 29th?
Every week we try to get guests with ideas, products and services you
haven't had time to check out to come and talk about what they're
doing. Aastra has some interesting phones so we asked them to come
talk about them.
