I sometimes think that it?s pointless for Americans to talk much about recent events in Gaza because we know how it will play out ? America will do absolutely nothing to interfere with the
ongoing massacre.

Manipulating dates
Hello,
Given a vector of characters, or factors, denoting the date in
the following way: 28/03/2000, is there a method of
1) Computing the earliest of these dates;
2) Using this as a base, then converting all the other dates into merely
the number of days after this minimum date
Many thanks

I'm studying alone the R language for data preparation. I found a course at
MIT for data preparation that uses python but I'm using R to learning. The
first exercise is the preparation of data from a database that shows the
contributions made to candidates for U.S. president. The database is

Confirmatory factor analysis problems using sem package (works in Amos)
Hello all,
I'm trying to replicate a confirmatory factor analysis done in Amos. The
idea is to compare a one-factor and a two-factor model. I get the following
warning message when I run either model:
"Could not compute QR decomposition of Hessian.
Optimization probably did not converge."
I have no idea what to do here. I believe posters reported the same
problem. It seems

colored PCA biplot
Hi-
I'm trying to make my PCA (princomp) colored. In my csv excel sheet, I have
the first column numbered according to the groupings I want to assign to the
PCA. I've played around with trying to set this first column as the color
vector, but haven't had any luck.
Any suggestions? Thanks,
Hillary

Problems with different mail clients
I use dovecot as my imap server, and everything is ok.
I used an IMAP client from Windows XP (Outlook Express) as well as Pocket PC (Windows Mobile 5) and webmail.
The problem is that I recently used Windows Vista and its imap client (Windows Mail), and problems began.

Matchspy and faceting
Have been working recently on a site that classifies posts using tags in
taxonomies, so a post about the Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico might be
tagged 'Subscribers only' (access level), 'Barack Obama' (person), 'Tony
Hayward' (person), 'BP' (company), 'Transocean' (company), 'Gulf of
Mexico' (location).

Add interpunct (dot) symbol to axis label?
I'm having problems creating an axis label for a plot.
y_label = expression(paste(plain('CPUE
'),plain('(fish'),plain('x'),plain('h'^{-1}),plain(')')))
I'd like to replace the "x" with an interpunct symbol (dot). Any
suggestions how to do this?
Thanks in advance.
