Managing the spiralling costs
I have been using the inbound 800 services from vitelity. Slowly the usage has been rising and in the month of Jan the bill was for $650. I am currently on a 1.9 cents a minute plan. Am I paying too much ? Some suggestions my team generated to reduce the toll free incoming call bill were: 1. When people call in on the 800 number take the local number they are calling from and then call them back

7 points of comparison Polycom 430/501 and Aastra 480i. Which one to choose ?
I need to provide a 80 people office with VOIP. I want to commit to one vendor Polycom or Aastra. Price of the phones is not a factor in the decision. The quality of the phones is the factor. Some of the features that I am evaluating on are: (arranged in order of priority) 1. connecting 66 analog phones to asterisk - hardware suggestions
Hi, I am looking to connect 66 analog phones to an asterisk box. I was thinking of a Xorcom astribank 32port (2 of them and another 8 port). this is because the phones have no near connection to an ip network, so replacing the phones in favor of voip phones+network cabling is kinda out of the question. In your experience, will these units support all the phones talking at the same time with

Connecting home intercom to Asterisk?
Hello I assume I'm not the first one to think about this: Is it possible to connect an intercom and/or door bell to Asterisk, so that I can get an e-mail that someone rang my place while I was out? Even better: If used for a doctor's office, it'd be cool if patients could type their Social Security Number on a keypad, which would open the door and notify Asterisk which would then

Is there a public blacklist of hackers' IP addresses?
Hi, In last one week I have seen two servers of our organization successfully hacked and some other under attack from some other IP addresses. We would block one IP address on our firewall and after a few hours, they would start getting hits from some another IP address. When I checked them on whois.net, they all were from Amsterdam. Surprisingly, I once had similar attack in the past and it was

Uniden UIP 200 and Asterisk.
Hi, I'm new to asterisk, and have a uniden UIP 200 that I got off of ebay. I'm having trouble getting the phone to register with asterisk. I've tried a few different settings. I'd be extremely grateful if someone with a similar setting could give me the sip.conf block for the UIP and the settings you're using in uniden.txt. Here's what I have currently: IP of phone

Migrate from an NFS storage to GlusterFS
Hi - I already have an NFS server in production which shares Web data for a 4-node Apache cluster. I'd like to switch to GlusterFS. Do I have to copy the files from the NFS storage to a GlusterFS one, or may it work if I just install GlusterFS on that server, configuring a GFS volume to the existing storage directory (assuming, of course, the NFS server is shuuted down and not used

Patch for X-SendFile on Windows
A new TRAC entry with patch has been added (initially for Camping) to allow X-SendFile on Windows to use DirHandler to send files on drives other than the current drive, if the DirHandler base path is "/" (which is the way Camping uses DirHandler). As it was, "/" gets expanded to "C:/", and then you can''t serve files on any other drive, which I needed to do

Replicated and Non Replicated Bricks on Same Partition
Gluster-Users, We currently have a 30 node Gluster Distributed-Replicate 15 x 2 filesystem. Each node has a ~20TB xfs filesystem mounted to /data and the bricks live on /data/brick. We have been very happy with this setup, but are now collecting more data that doesn't need to be replicated because it can be easily regenerated. Most of the data lives on our replicated volume and is
