VoIP hackers gut Caller ID
The Register is carrying a article written by Kevin Poulsen of
Securtiy Focus, calling asterisk "..the most powerful tool for
manipulating and accessing CPN data.."
I hope NuFone doesn't drop asterisk-set-able callerid's after this
article; i've been wanting that feature from voicepluse for a long
time.

Anyone using an Intel Atom ?
Just built myself a little test server with an Atom 230 processor in it
and am quite impressed with it so-far.
Wondering is anyones used one in anger for a VoIP platform?
I'm after something with a bit more oomph than the VIAs I'm currently
using that I can use in a small box (mini ATX size) without going
full-blown Xeons, etc.

Gordon

In the press, once again
May be a little bit off topic, but this gave me hard laugh:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/09/24/sysadmin_file_tools/
Windows admins use a virtualized CentOS machine to copy files because
their own tools are not able to handle copying a bigger amount of data. :)

OFF TOPIC: chatGPT glibly produces a lot of wrong answers?
**OFF TOPIC** but perhaps of interest to some on this list. I apologize in
advance to those who may be offended.

Red Hat is Planning To Deprecate KDE on RHEL By 2024
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/11/02/rhel_deprecates_kde/
That's still several years in the future, of course.
I use Mate on all of my machines rather than Gnome or KDE and I'm sure
many of you fine folks do the same.
But it's interesting nonetheless.

Windows API opens up???
Any thoughts on articles like this one -
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/02/21/microsoft_goes_open/. This mentions the Vista API, but I wonder about earlier API's.
I also saw something the other day about source code for .Net being released as a "learning tool".
Of course, all of this is in a bid to get Office XML approved as an ISO standard. They don't just give stuff away

MeetMe: Zap channels don't ever disconnect. . .
I was playing around with conferencing tonight. I was able to place a
bunch of SIP phones and a couple of my Zap FXS phones into a conference.
So I thought, "Let's see what it's like when people come in from outside."
So I called a friend and had him call in on one of my Zap channels,
WHICH IS CONNECTED TO MY POTS LINE THAT DOESN'T DO DISCONNECT SUPERVISION.

I thought I would email this post I made on my blog from yesterday as a
way of stimulating discussion on this.
It looks like the Asterisk community is no closer to getting a Pre-Paid
'Offboard Speech Recognition Processing' SIP gateway than ever. I've

New glibc for CentOS-6 and CentOS-7 and CVE-2015-7547
I normally just let the daily announce post to this list show what is
available for updates, but there is a CVE (CVE-2015-7547) that needs a
bit more attention which will be on today's announce list of updates.
We released a new glibc yesterday for CentOS-6 and CentOS-7 .. it is
VERY important that all users update to these versions: This update is
rated as Critical by Red Hat, meaning that

RHEL 6 won't support Itanic, will support PowerPC, though
Hi list,
after some discussion on #IRC on PowerPC I was waiting for some
commitment on supported architectures in RHEL 6. As I just learnt,
Itanic will be dumped, but there will be a PowerPC release:
