Is 'xorg-x11-devel' equivalent to 'XFree86-devel'?
The readme states as requirement that XFree86-devel be installed for RedHat
boxes. I'm running FC4 which doesn't use XFree-86 but xorg-x11. Are these
equivalent, and will the installation of xorg-x11-devel meet the installation
requirments?

question on dot files
I hope this is an appropriate forum for Samba questions from new users.
I have successfully configured Samba on my network which consists of a
Fedora 2 box and three Windows machines. However, I can't seem to turn
off the dot files. When I browse to the shared folder from a one of the
Windows machines, which is my personal folder in /home, I can see all

Chinese characters in the title
Dear experts,
In my application,
Chinese characters work great in the body of the page. However, in the title, they appear as boxes instead of something like " ???????? ".
I also noticed CNET having the same issue:

So my question to experts here is that is it possible to show Chinese

20050830 is up but where next
I've just installed 20050830 from source on an FC4 box. I used the suggested
method in the readme: ./tools/wineinstall
It appears to work - if I type 'notepad' from a bash terminal, notepad opens
right up - all the instructions say to use 'wine notepad' but I don't need to
include wine. Just typing 'notepad' starts the program. My question is, where
next?

I have a simple home network with a seemingly intractable problem. I'm pretty

Various folks have been helping me over on the Fedora list for 9 days, now,

rsync not transferring files [SOLVED]
Something is not right as I have added files to the server that has
never shown up on my backup machine - so everything is NOT being update
by any means. I finally removed rsync - version
rsync-3.0.6-12.el6.x86_64 and installed the same version that is on my
server which is rsync-3.1.1-1.el6.rfx.x86_64
Now everything is working as expected. Perhaps there is something

[R-SIG-Mac] Plotting Chinese characters
Alberto,
you simply need a font that has those characters. For example on 10.6 this works:
plot.new(); plot.window(0:1,0:1); text(0.5,0.5,"??",cex=10,family="Hei")
You may want to check your system for fonts that you can use (those that have chinese characters when you click on them in Font Book). There are a lot of fonts that work like STSong, STFangsong, LiSong Pro,

Printing chinese characters (UTF-8) on R 3.5.2 -windows 10
I have a chinese character on a data frame, but the output of printing it is its UTF-8 code. Concretely, the character is ? and the code is U+6703. Following the code I arrive to the instruction
> base::format.default("?")
which prints
[1] "<U+6703>"
I do not know which is the extent of this behaviour either if it follows on most recent versions of R.
Is it

In RGui you can print the string, because RGui is a Windows Unicode
application (uses UTF16-LE and bypasses the C runtime for strings). But
it is just the gui, R itself (and hence also packages) use the current

Whenever I draw a plot containing Chinese character, it draws fine on screen,
but never saves to a file.
It does not matter, whether I first draw it on screen and than save or draw
straight to pdf.
It is also all the same, whether the characters are in label or in the plot
itself (via "pch=..."

Plotting Chinese characters
Hi,
I have read some of the documentation relative to character encodings and
non-standard fonts (including previous answered questions and the 2006-2 R
issue), but I am still struggling with very basic plotting of Chinese text.
I am using R for Mac OS X GUI 1.35-dev Leopard build 32-bit.
I have a network, g, of Chinese characters (each node is a Chinese
character) and I can handle it and
