cannot play sound files
Greetings, I have a new * system installed and everything works as it should except for one annoying little problem: I can't play any sound files. What this means is that when an extension script gets to the point where it should play a sound file (voicemail greeting, auto-attendant, whatever), the caller hears a click and then silence. According to the * log, the sound file is being

dial extension and play sound file from shell on asterisk server?
I want to use Asterisk as a general message delivery system here. That is, I want to be able to have a (shell, perl, etc.) script on my Asterisk server dial an extension, wait for it to be answered and then play a sound file and then hang up, or even wait for a response or reactions to some IVR. Certainly if I had a SIP library, I could have the script simply look like a SIP extension but that

Dial : Executing context/priority after bridge?
Hi, I am using Asterisk to set up a reminder-like system, with asterisk auto-dialing a user via SIP and playing a reminder file when the user picks the phone. I use Gizmo service for SIP and I'm able to call through it. However, when asterisk dials a number, Gizmo first answers then tries bridging 2 channels. Right after answer Asterisk starts playing the reminder. It obviously results in

I'm not sure why -- Executing Answer("SIP/2181-4518", "") in new stack -- Executing Playback("SIP/2181-4518", "silence/1") in new stack -- Playing 'silence/1' (language 'en') == Spawn

Dropping Number on Dial Out
I have been having a strange issue with my Asterisk 1.2.1 server. I have a TDM400 for the three POTS lines I have and I can receive calls without any problems. But sometimes (not everytime, but 70%) when I dial out of those lines it drops a number and of course gives me the telco error message. How do I know that it's dropping? Because I thought it was a line problem and the tech came out
