> having two NICs on the same subnet
I'm trying to wrap my brain around that in the larger network picture. Two
NICs in the same subnet (presumably on the same computer) would have access
to the same other devices. This could potentially increase bandwidth
(maybe?) and offer redundancy (if NICS, wiring or switches were the biggest
source of failure). I'm not sure how the OS would

[Zaptel] Why no driver for PCI voice modems?
Hello
Considering how cheap PCI modems are compared to even the cheapest
PCI hardware from Digium, OpenVox, Sangoma, etc.... I was wondering
why Zaptel can't be used with those to connect an Asterisk server to
a POTS line for low-level use? It just seems overkill for SOHO users
who only get a few calls a day.
Is it because those modems are usually Windows-specific, and it would
be too

Having some issues with Asterisk 1.4.22 install. I am
new to both Linux and Asterisk, however have 20+ years
programming experience.
First off I hate asking questions I could answer
myself. I have and am reading The Asterisk manual, 2nd
edition. I have successfully installed CentOS 5.2 and
used yum to get a C compiler, current speed bump is

Centos box and Cisco 3750 VLAN's
Hello all,
I have a CentOS box that has a NIC (eth0) on which I defined 4 VLAN's
(counting the NIC itself): eth0, eth0.1, eth0.2 and eht0.3. Initially the
Cisco switch was not partitioned into VLAN's which means that the only VLAN
running on it was the default one (VLAN 1).
I have then played with VLAN's a bit on the switch and at this point have
two: VLAN 1 (which is default and can

Software bridge problem
Dear list.
I have a problem I hope someone can help me with. I am currently developing a "transparent" software bridge that
connects a local area network to the Internet. eth0 is connected to the "Internet" and eth1 is connected
to the LAN. The program is working just fine and packets are routed perfectly through the box. However my
problems goes as follows: eht0 has got an

Linux HA or Heartbeat IP address question
Hi all,
I am following the guide on HowToForge to get Heartbeat going for two
Apache web servers
(http://www.howtoforge.com/high_availability_heartbeat_centos), a
quick question for anyone who might have a similar setup.
Do I have to assign the service IP to either of the NICs or does
Heartbeat do that automagically?
Thanks

I'm configuring a HA-cluster to share disks using heartbeat from

Two machines, lets call them server1 and server2 share the same disk with
an ocfs2 file system. However, the two machines have separate disks for
their OS installations. The two physical servers have two gigabit nics
each and on those nics I place four virtual IP addresses which heartbeat

echotraining on T1 circuits
Hello,
We just had some new T1s turned up today to replace others that our contract
has run out on and we are now getting more echo on the new T1 lines than we
had on the old ones.
The T1 type is 24-channel, D4/AMI SF Robbed-bit(the same as the T1s they
replaced)
The problem is that we are getting echo on about 10% of the calls in and out
placed on these new T1s compared to less than 1% with

multiple provider for incoming
Matt,
At some point you need to consider how much is too much...
I run a call center with more then 125 commissioned phone sales reps and more than 60 customer service reps. We run dual servers, fiber from one provider and 6 bonded T1's from another provider. We purchase our so trunks from a wholesale company who is a major provider to resellers. Being so, their network is extremely

Heartbeat Timeout Threshold
I've been using OCFS2 on a 3 way Centos 5.2 Xen cluster for a while now using it to share
the VM disk images. In this way I can have live and transparent VM migration.
I'd been having intermittent (every 2-3 weeks) incidents where a server would self fence.
After configuring netconsole I managed to see that the fencing was due to a heartbeat
threshold timeout so I have now increased

Digium PRI cards for data usage?
Greetings- I'm wondering if the Digium PRI cards can be used for data (Cisco HDLC, PPP, etc) or if they're for voice circuits only. I haven't been able to find any information on this. All documentation direct from Digium seems to indicate their hardware is for voice applications only. Sangoma's cards work in either voice or data mode but of course this is configured in their

5,000 concurrent calls system rollout question
Hi,
we are currently considering different options for rolling out a large scale IP PBX to handle around 3,000 + concurrent calls.
Can this be done with Asterisk? Has it been done before?
I really would like an input on this.
Thanks!

Xen 3.4.2 networking help
(If this is a double post, I apologize, my email client crashed when I first
sent it)
I need some help to configure a secure network on my Xen server. I have been
looking online and it seems a I need a routed network. But I am having a
terrible time implementing it.
My setup:
Xen 3.4.2
CentOS 5.5 Dom0
1 NIC (eth0)
All guests will be HVM
What I want to do is something similar to a firewall

T1 config for robbed-bit E&M AMI
I have a couple of live T1s sitting around and they are not ISDN(like most
of the people that are using Asterisk seem to be using), they are regular
old 24 channel, robbed-bit, E&M wink start, D4AMI T1 circuits.
Can I get these T1s to work with a T100P Digium card and asterisk?
Searching through the lists and the documentation I haven't seen any
examples of how to configure this kind

Can this box handle 8 T1s (PSTN) with Asterisk?
Hi all,
I am handed a project to setup *. The requirement is that it can handle
8 T1s. Half of the calls coming into the system will be routed to SIP
extensions (with transcoding). The machine we have in our disposal is a
new dual Xeon 3.2gHz server with 2g of ram and an dual 1000mb nic. Voice
will be coming in from the PSTN (through 2 quad digium cards) in
g711ulaw, and most of the time will

suggested hardware especially sound cards
Hello,
I've seen various suggestions thrown around for hardware when people ask,
but can we all agree on some basic hardware recommendations for a few basic
setups(and post them on a website) to make it easier for new people to avoid
some of the hardware/software pitfalls when they are setting up their first
systems.

Heartbeat for Centos 5- Can't build RPMS or install prebuilt RPMS
I am stuck. This is X86_64 platform.
In the extras repos, there is the SRPMS for heartbeat along with the
RPMS for it.
I have downloaded both. But I can't build the RPMS from the SRPM as it
fails compiling something in BUILD/heartbeat-2.0.8/lib/crm/pengine
Additionally, I can't install the RPMS:
rpm -Uvh

Zaptel problems on Debian
I just installed a TE410P on a Debian Sarge system running kernel
2.6.11-1-686-smp. Zaptel and Asterisk seem to be working fine.
However, I have a couple of problems with the TE410P and Zaptel.
First, the TE410P is showing me red alarms on 2 of the 4 T1s. This
board (the TE410P) was just moved from another machine running REL3
and all 4 T1s were working there. I don't know why only
