Weird folders / files after upgrading to Samba 4.20
Hello lovely samba-people, after upgrading to 4.20 some file shares randomly get weird directories and files in them: drwxrwx---+ 3 AD-ELLERHOLD\user AD-ELLERHOLD\group 4.0K May 29 01:14 ''$'\352' drwxrwx---+ 3 AD-ELLERHOLD\user AD-ELLERHOLD\group 4.0K May 29 01:14 ''$'\324' drwxrwx---+ 3 AD-ELLERHOLD\user AD-ELLERHOLD\group 4.0K May 18 01:12

shared mailbox subfolder permissions
Hi all, when I create a subfolder in a public mailbox the dovecot-shared file is copied for the newly created subfolder and all mails get the owner, group and permissions from the file. Unfortunately the cur, new and tmp folders only get the permissions from the file but owner and group are set according to the creator. This effectivly makes the folder private to the creator. Is this the

permissions of newly created mailboxes only with dovecot-lda and posix acls
Hi! I am experiencing troubles concerning the inheritance of the setgid bit if a new mailbox is created with dovecot-lda. If it is created with dovecot/imap, everything works fine. dovecot-lda is called from postfix like this: ---------- mailbox_command = /usr/local/sbin/postfix-lda.sh ---------- logger -p mail.info -t postfix-lda "H: $HOME, S: $SENDER, R: $RECIPIENT, U: $(umask), id:

Cannot access share
Running openldap/samba/smbldap-tools/debian etch: The users can access their home drives and logon.bat maps but not the share. I can see the share in explorer but prompts for a password when try to access it. I had them working fine a while back. The only user that can access the share is admin. The only thing that's happened that I can think of is that a script changed the whole directory

permissions keeping changing
I've got a share where I needed the permissions to be 770 and I think an Apple Mac computer is connecting to a Samba share and changing the permissions each day. At the end of the day, I'll set permissions to: root at backblaze000002:/share1/QuinceCt/.TemporaryItems# ls -la total 12 drwxrwx--- 3 jlehmanjr qcbbwritetoquincectshare 16 Nov 15 14:57 . drwxrwx--- 9 jlehmanjr

Cannot access share]
Actually what I've discovered is that the user is able to access the share and access the shared folders where its a member of it's respective group. However, I have a weird problem where 1. user logon.bat does not map shared drive to S: and 2. under the domain name/server in My Network Places there are the folders in the share as well as a subfolder called "shared". permissions on samba share change automatically
On the problem summarized below, I have some additional information, and what I believe is a bug in the cifs client. Can anyone advise on how/where to file the bug report ? I found out what is the probable cause of the problem above, but not what the solution is. I tried the above mentioned commands, but using different umasks on the client. I saw that when a directory is created, the

dovecot ignoring folder permissions on directory creation
Ubuntu 8.04lts Dovecot 1.2.6 So, further to the 'deliver' problem posted yesterday I've also discovered another issue regarding permissions: files and directories are being created 0600/0700 by the IMAP and deliver process (depending on who gets there first!) preventing use of shared mailboxes. According to documentation: "When creating a new mailbox, Dovecot v1.2+ copies the

samba3.0.23d group permissions problem
I have installed samba 3.0.23d on FreeBSD 6.1. It is running with "security = ads". Plan is to replace current server running Samba 3.0.14a on FreeBSD 5.3 in the Windows2003 domain. I have successfully joined the domain and can list users and groups (I did notice that when I review Computer Properties under Operating Systems tab it does not list Samba and the corresponding version like

Cannot change directory permissions
Hi Rowland, sorry, I hit the wrong reply button in the last answer. So there is no other way than to use Windows ACLs? I was told with our old systems (Samba 3 in non-domain mode) the behaviour I want to achieve was possible when only using ugo. Greetings, Felix -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: samba [mailto:samba-bounces at lists.samba.org] Im Auftrag von Rowland Penny Gesendet:

Samba and unix permissions mismatch
I have just managed to get my first Samba/LDAP PDC up and running. But I have one big security problem -- users logging in to the PDC using ssh can access all shares. User credentials, both for ssh login and for Samba access, are retrieved from the LDAP directory. All shares are stored in the /var/lib/samba directory. The directories permissions look like this: drwxrwx--- 2 root Domain

Maildir permissions, shared folders & postfix
Hi there, It's my understanding that shared folders can be implemented in the Dovecot IMAP server by simply symlinking one maildir to another, eg: $ ls -lan /home/DOMAIN/ned/.maildir/ total 40 drwx------ 9 10012 10000 440 Jan 9 04:23 . drwxr-xr-x 3 10012 10000 160 Jan 6 06:32 .. drwx------ 5 10012 10000 264 Jan 9 04:21 .Deleted Items drwx------ 5 10012 10000 232 Jan 6

Weird folders / files after upgrading to Samba 4.20
Hallo, yes this is an "ls -lAh" on the samba fileserver side in the corresponding directory. Downgrading to 4.19 does not remove the weird directories and files. But it prevents new weird ones being created... Looking at the timestamps these seem to be created when (heavy?) filesystem operations are being done. There is a cronjob that imports images at 1oo and it runs for around
