Drive Designation
I keep reading on this list where drive C: is referred to as "~/.wine/drive_c"
but on my system (due to no special smarts on my part that would be
"~/.wine/dosdevices/c:" instead. Why this difference? Are the ones who post
basing their operation on an older way of doing things? The ability to use "c:"
rather than "drive_c" seems nicer IMNSHO. FWIW,

Installing wine 1.1.4 on Mac OS X - winecfg fails
After unsuccessfully trying the binary distribution at http://thisismyinter.net/?p=47, I've decided to compile myself from source, but only to realize that I'm ending up with the same issue when running winecfg:
Code:
$ /usr/local/bin/winecfg

Mechwarrior 2 under wine
Hi folks
I"ve downloaded and installed wine on RedHat 8, kernel 2.4.19 (and 20)
The install for Mechwarrior 2 has run without errors.
When I give it:
wine .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Activision/Mech2/MECH2.EXE
I get an error window saying:
"You must insert the MECHWARRIOR 2 CD into your CD-ROM drive."
Of course, its already there and the drive was mounted with the command

Cannot get UNC paths to work correctly
Hi all
I wish to run 'Enterprise Architect' from Sparx Systems[1]. The
installer runs just fine, and the application installs OK. The main
issue is that the license key file is a shared resource - many users can
utilise the same license file (legitimately I might add!) at the same
time, so the license file is located on a SMB share. The key file itself
has encoded into itself what the

C:\ doesn't save
Hello,
I edited the path to my drive_c because it wasn't working right.
After I clicked Ok, it erased the fake C:\ in winecfg, but the drive_c
folder is still there. Everytime I try to enter it back in, it erases.
I also get these errors when I try to use wine:
[root@localhost ~]# winecfg

Wine with CIFS home directory
I have Single Sign On at my home network - my linux home directories
are mounted from my Win2k fileserver. I try to run winecfg and get the
below error, obviously because CIFS and NTFS doesn't support symlinks.
How do I get wine to run from somewhere else?

Configuration after installation problem
I'm fairly new to wine. I'm running the version (Wine 20050211) that
comes with SuSE 9.3. I had been using the version that came with SuSE
9.1 (Wine 20040213), and recently ran the SuSE 9.3 upgrade installation.
Getting ready to try installing Word Perfect 8.0, I've been reading the
help documents. I recollect a warning not to run wine as root. By
mistake, I did so. When I did, it

wine cannot find L "c:/windows/system32/plugplay.exe
I'm running Wine1.2.2 on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid). In my file manager, I can get to the /.wine/drive_c folder, so I know it exists in my file system. However, when I open the Wine Configuration window (either via apps/wine/configuration or via terminal (winecfg), on the Drives tab it shows
C: ../drive_c
D: /media UDISK
(and a few other drives).
However, the C drive

/wine question
I just got wine-9.2 for fedora 4. I wiped out my ~/.wine directory to start
completely clean and installed the rpm.
I took a look inside ~/.wine and there are no fake windows/dos drives at
all. I ran wine without any arguments (checked manual, there seems to be
only version and help, tried those later), and then ran winecfg.
Still, there are no dosdevices at all. I looked in the newest

replace question mark with a dash
Hi:
I have the following dataset in R( thanks Gabor for your help) but now
the problem is that all the dashes are converted to questions marks ("?")
I?am trying to get the dashes back using:
mydf <- data.frame(lapply(mydf,function(x) replace(mydf,"?"(x),"-")))
but isn't working. I also tried:
mydf <- replace(mydf,mydf=="?","-)")
