integrate_views is not executing my views
I wanted to use "integrate_views" as Ryan explains in his RailsCast #71
(http://railscasts.com/episodes/71)
...but I can''t get it to work: the view code in not executed
I looked everywhere but I can''t understand what I am doing wrong.
Here is what I did:
I created a new application from scratch (Rails 2.0.2), added rspec and
rspec_on_rails plugins, and run

Rails matcher render_template is wrong when using GetText, looking for flexible solution
I have a problem with a mismatch between RSpec Rails and the actual
behavior when using GetText, and would be glad for suggestions how to
best solve this.
When using GetText a failure is reported for the following simplified
specification:
describe SamplesController, "when requesting /samples" do
it "should render index " do
get ''index''

Using integrate_views for all controller specs
Is there a way to always use integrate_views for all controller specs?
I hate having to remember to insert that line into each one.
Thanks,

render_to_string in a controller test?
Hi all,
I know that in general, view and controller tests should be isolated,
such that controller specs don''t test views etc. However, I think
I''ve run into a situation that might be an exception.
My controller uses render_to_string to produce a chunk of HTML that it
passes to a model to be processed.
The controller then redirects the user to a different page. The

Correct way to spec partials
Hi everybody,
1) Does anybody have full working example of how to test partial templates?
2) What the correct place to test partials: controller or view spec? If
controller correct place,
should I use integrate_views?
3) Is it true that expect_render is deprecated and I have to
use should_receive(:render)
4) How to test that partial''s locals hash is correct?
Thx

Mocking Models in Controller Specs...
I find myself doing this kind of thing a lot in Controller Specs:
@vacancy = mock_model(Vacancy)
@vacancy.stub!(:reference)
@vacancy.stub!(:title)
@vacancy.stub!(:created_at)
@vacancy.stub!(:updated_at)
@vacancy.stub!(:body)
@vacancy.stub!(:contract)
@vacancy.stub!(:location)
@vacancy.stub!(:salary)
@vacancy.stub!(:benefits)

rspec 1.0.x and liquid?
Is anyone else using liquid with the > 1 rspec? This seems to fail:
it ''should render show'' do
response.should render_template(''buyers/show'')
get :show, :id => 1
end
with an error like
1)
NoMethodError in ''/buyer GET should render show''
You have a nil object when you didn''t expect it!

Rspec not loading fixtures
I am taking over a code base and am trying to run the tests. I am
somewhat new to RSpec so this might be a trivial problem.
Basically I can tell that the fixtures are not getting loaded. All 100
tests fail with a similar error.
But I don''t know why. Below is the code, with my narrative with ***
before it... Can you see anything or give me a clue where to look. So

[Rspec] Difference between stub and message expectation with any_number_of_times
I''m wondering what''s the difference between stub and message expectation
with any_number_of_times, for example:
myMock = mock("mymock")
myMock.stub!(:is_a?).with(MyClass).and_return(false)
and
myMock = mock("mymock")
myMock.should_receive(:is_a?).with(MyClass).any_number_of_times.and_return(false)
because is_a? may not be called at all, it just like a

overriding mock expectations
There is one annoyance I''m encountering with the Mock API in rSpec.
Overall it works well, as far as dynamic mocks go ;)... but there''s
this one thing... It doesn''t allow overriding of expectations.
example:
m = mock("blah")
m.should_receive(:one).any_number_of_times().and_return(1)
m.should_receive(:one).and_return(1)
The second call to should_receive

spec''ing models with observers that send mail
I''m spec''ing a model with an observer that sends mail. Mailers behave
similarly to controllers, so to make the whole thing work, I believe
something like integrate_views has to be available. Has anyone dealt
with observers and ActionMailer?
Thanks

mock syntax order
I have the following statement
mock_requester.should_receive(:request_with).with
("x").any_number_of_times.and_return(@object)
which works fine, but when i do it backwards, which makes the same
amount of sense syntactically, it fails
mock_requester.should_receive(:request_with).with("x").and_return
(@object).any_number_of_times
are all of the mock options

Mocking with Calculated Results
I am setting up an AR mock object and wanted to sanity check it. My
intent is to mix this into all my examples and then override/add
methods where necessary. Note that I''ve anticipated three cases for
find:
find with one numeric argument => object
find with :all => Array
find with anything else => nil
This roughly approximates how ActiveRecord::find works in this case

Stubs breaking other things
Hi All
I''m working on converting some existing controller specs to use mocks
and stubs rather than real ActiveRecord objects in a Rails project.
In one of my controller actions, I use a database transaction. So,
the obvious thing to do is have this in my setup block:
Project.stub!(:transaction)
Firstly, is there an easy way to have that stub yield to the block
passed to any

Rails: possible routing discrepancy
Hey all, I''m seeing a strange behavior in my spec that I can''t
account for. I''ve got a route that looks like this:
map.writing \
''/writing'',
:controller => ''abstracts'', :action => ''index'',
:index => { :select => ''all'' }
and I have template code that looks like this:

deprecate integrate_views, WDYT?
I posted a ticket to lighthouse:
http://rspec.lighthouseapp.com/projects/5645-rspec/tickets/595-deprecate-integrate_views
Please put your comments and thoughts there, as that is the best place
for that discussion. I wanted to make it more "visible" so it could
get wide community participation in case there are folks who
absolutely feel integrate_views is necessary (considering that we

How To Spec Controllers with Finders
Given this code (which renders rjs), I''m faced with the fixture-
driven way of spec-ing or mocking. How the heck to you mock this so
the code at line (2) and (4) work right? I''m still struggling with
mocks but it seems like this can be done. Forgive the naivety of this
question.

2. @line_item = LineItem.find_by_id(params[:id])

Action Mailer throwing underscores on template name
I''ve recently run into a problem with one of my applications that
refuses to send emails using ActionMailer.
Looking at the log, it become obvious what''s happening, the system is
looking for templates with underscores at the end. Notice the
exception_notification_ .
For example:
