[PLUGIN] rspec_resource_generator - RESTful scaffold generator with RSpec specifications
rspec_resource_generator
========================
By Pat Maddox
Use this generator to generate RESTful scaffolding with RSpec specifications.
Syntax is exactly the same as the scaffold_resource generator:
./script/generate rspec_resource ModelName [field:type field:type]
When you run this generator, it will create a migration, model, and
model spec file. In addition, it gives you a RESTful

should_receive.again
Hi,
It appears that if I have 2 should_receives in a row, the latest one
overrides the previous one(s).
If there isn''t one, could we add a way to accumulate them, such as
@thing.should_receive(:method).and_return(@value)
@thing.should_receive(:method).again.and_return(@value)
@thing.should_receive(:method).again.and_return(@value)
would be equivalent to

When running rails spec tests is there a log file generated? i''m
looking for generated sql to help me debug like in development.log
or is there a way to run the test against a webrick server so i can
see logs?
(i''m not running with spec_server at the moment, it doesnt seem to

When to use BDD/TDD w/ external libraries
Test First Development is great...But should you use it when you are
adding classes/methods on to external library that doesn''t have an
extensive test suite? I noticed that the rspec plugin for autotest
has no specs.
David Chemlinsky said something to the list a while back that has
been stewing in my subconscious - that you develop software
differently using Test First

I was making a model called Survey and another called Response
hehe, don''t use a model named Response...
it really messes up the mocks and stubs

I''m really bad at controllers, help please.
Hey,
Sorry for so many questions - I''m really bad at this right now.
I''m trying to cover the following code w/ rspec
def index
if params[:user_id]
@user = User.find(params[:user_id])
@messages = @user.messages
end
end
So basically what I''m doing is listing all the messages for a user,
provided there is an id parameter.

Unexpected message on :attr_accessor
This may be a dumb noob issue, but I haven''t found any answers while seaching
the forum--
I have a controller method
def edit
@user = User.find params[:id]
@user.password_confirmation = @user.password
end
The User class has an "attr_accessor :password_confirmation" definition (so
"password_confirmation" doesn''t exist in the users table). My spec

Top Quoting?
Sort of off-topic and don''t mean to complain, but many on this list
use top quoting. That works ok if you don''t quote the whole previous
thread. However, I''m finding that scrolling forever to locate the
reply on longer threads is getting tedious. What''s the rationale for
top-quoting?
Thx.

nested resources with nested controllers
Is there a way to create resources that work with nested controllers?
For example:
./script/generate scaffold_resource project name:string
mkdir app/views/layouts/project # so the command below doesn''t
complain
./script/generate scaffold_resource project::user name:string
# routes.rb
map.resources :projects do |project|
project.resources :users
end
After creating a project

lines of code
I know this is probably a meaningless metric, but I''m new to TDD and
would like to know what to expect in terms of lines of code of tests
to lines of code in a "typical" rails app. It seems like it could be
as much as 5:1 or more. Perhaps its more like number of test
methods : lines of code is closer to 1:1 ?

RSpec 0.9.2
Behind every great release is a maintenance release.
Go get it while it''s hot.
We''ve also reworked the website a little - trying to scare off fewer people.

RecordNotFound bubbling thru to cucumber
Hello,
I have a controller action that raises a RecordNotFound exception if
you''re not allowed to see something. In my global application
controller (application.rb), I catch these and render the 404
template. But when I run cucumber (using webrat), it''s getting the
full stacktrace (the step blows up). Any ideas why? I have
consider_all_requests_local turned off in my test.rb.

8th method for scaffold_resource
I was reading a blog where at RailsEurope David spoke about adding a
"search" method into the scaffold_resource. Anyway I haven''t seen
anything else on it and wanted to know if there is any more information
someone here could share.

Stubbing all methods
Mocha''s mock/stub framework has the ability to stub all methods on a
mock given. Does RSpec''s mocking framework have this ability? And
if not, is there some reason it shouldn''t be implemeneted?

cucumber - mark a step as pending
I love the way I can throw a call to pending() in the top of an
unfinished RSpec example and stop it from failing the build.
Is there a similar way to do such a thing with good ole'' cucumber?
cheers,
Matt

RSpec and RCov with JRuby
Hi,
I am using JRuby (trunk) and wrote a bunch of specifications for my
code. Everything works fine so far.
Now I am trying to integrate RCov in my test run. I have installed
RCov without the C extensions. I tried it with a simple script and it
worked (pretty slow, but it doesn?t matter).
But when I add the rcov options to my Rake task, RCov is not invoke
properly!

RSpec 0.7.4 released
Hi all,
I released RSpec 0.7.4 yesterday, and by now the gems should have
rsync''ed to all the mirrors.
This release features a complete redesign of the reports generated
with --format html.
You can see some examples of it here:
http://rspec.rubyforge.org/report.html
http://rspec.rubyforge.org/tools/failing_examples.html
As usual there are many bug fixes - mostly related to spec/rails.

sharing story steps
Hi,
How can I have a common set of steps that all my stories share?
i.e. My stories often start out looking like this:
Given a user Joe
Given a user Jordan
then:
Given("a user $username") do |username|
@users ||= {}
@user_sessions ||= {}
@users[username] = create_user(:username => username)
@user_sessions[username] = login_as(@users[username])
end
I want to share that
