Rails doesn't validate create_model or build_model (has_one association)
I''ve got User has_one Shop. Rails is not validating when I tried
create_shop or build_shop, neither in the browser nor the rails console.
My code:
class Shop < ActiveRecord::Base
attr_protected :user_id
belongs_to :user
validates_presence_of :name, :primary_address, :city, :country_code,
:currency
end
class ShopsController < ApplicationController

scopes related question
Hello,
Have a question related scope definition. I need to define a scope
based on related model attribute values like this.
class Product < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :currency
scope :with_currency, lambda { |currency|
unless currency.to_s.upcase == ''ALL''
# here I need to define a scope that would test for currency.char_code
to match a passed value

Hi,
I have a question about displaying digits in Rails.
whenever I print the price of an item, if the last digit is a zero or
double zeros then it doesn''t display properly.
How do I display a number so that it looks like currency?
thank you!

False Positives and Autotest on New Folders
False Positives
I just discovered how easy it was to create a false positive when I, trying
my first RSpec test, did this:
ob.should eql?(''foo'')
instead of:
ob.should eql(''foo'')
or:
ob.should == ''foo''
As far as I can see, this is roughly equivalent to:
ob.should false
Neither eql?(''foo'') nor false causes the spec

Stub / Mock - A little guidance?
Hi there,
I''m still trying to wrap my head around when to use a stub and a mock.
If I understand this right, I should be using a ''mock'' when imitating
an object, but not its behavior. I should be using a stub when I want
to imitate the behavior of an object. Does that sound about right?
With that said, I''m struggling a little trying to spec out this

number_to_currency() helper == non DRY == could be improved
Hi all,
Apologies in advance if I got this one wrong, I''m still just a
newbie ;-)
Going through the Apple ADC RoR tutorial it suddenly occurred to me
that the ''number_to_currency()'' helper method was not DRY streamlined.
Scenario::
The "number_to_currency()" methods options hash works great when I
need to dynamically display different currencies when I

Rails PayPal and Currencies other than USD
Has anyone been able to make direct API calls to PayPal in currencies
other than USD? I get an error message "The currency code submitted is
not supported. Check the currency code and try again."
I''m using the PayPal plugin for Rails. I can successfully transact in
USD, but not AUD (Australian Dollars).
Cheers,

Speed up code, profiling, optimization, lapply vs. loops
High everybody,
currently I'm writinig a package that, for a given family of variance
functions depending on a parameter theta, say, computes the extended
quasi likelihood (eql) function for different values of theta.
The computation involves a couple of calls of the 'glm' routine. What
I'm doing now is to call 'lapply' for a list of theta values and a
function, that

money data types
What data type is best for storing currency? I''m trying to come up
with a reliable cross-database solution for rails that is not too
complicated. Since I''m going to have currency fields all over the

would qualify as uncomplicated. I''d like to be able to use database

I''m confused why the spec described below is failing. Other simple
comparison specs are passing fine for the same model. The code is working
accordingly when I test it through the console, I''m just having difficulty

Testing misc methods in ApplicationController

However, i can;''t work out how to test the sort of method that is added to
application_controller so that all controllers can use it. It must be
something simple that i''m doing
