Xen kernel prevents ALSA working
I''m using Xen under Debian Etch. I''ve managed to get my virtual machines working and I''m happy with that. But I find that if I boot Debian using the Xen kernel (version 2.6.18-4-xen-686), ALSA suddenly can''t find either of my soundcards (an AC97 on the motherboard and an M-Audio M44 PCI card). Everything else seems to work fine, networking and bluetooth

Bug#391448: xen-hypervisor-3.0-unstable-1-i386: dom0 crashes when starting the 3rd domU
Package: xen-hypervisor-3.0-unstable-1-i386 Version: 3.0-unstable+hg11561-1 Severity: important I've installed xen-linux-system-2.6.17-2-xen-k7 (version 2.6.17-9) on a server, and planned to run 3 Xen domUs on it. Creating the domUs was no problem, and running two of them works well. Starting the third one however will crash the dom0 and forces it to reboot. The machine is a Athlon64 3800+

No xen kernel image for k7 anymore!
Package: linux-source-2.6 Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-11 Severity: important Tag: etch With 2.6.18-4 Debian switched from non-pae to pae-only xen kernels. This means that xen is not useable anymore for many users, which were able to use non-pae kernels without a problem for a long time till now. In my opinion this is a critical issue, because it makes xen unusable for about maybe 10-30% of all

Help with parsing a data file
Hi All, I need to parse data from a file, example shown below. The first two lines can be skipped, the third line contains the column names. The next 13 lines can be skipped. The next line "1991" is a year value, with the following 13 values data for that year. The file then repeats this format with (year, 13 lines of data for that year). I would ideally like to end up with an

Automating package building packages and repository uploading
Dear Rusers, I have developed two packages for a client of mine. After new features are added or bugs corrected, I upload them to my own web repository. I create both source and binary versions. In fact, I made an script that checks, builds, and uploads them via ftp. However, I am facing two nuisances that do make it difficult to automate: 1) Even if I build the binary version with the command

Did a recent Samba upgrade change something to lose connection with iptables enabled?
Hello, I am still a newbie to Linux, but I can find my ways around as long as I have help. For some reason if I leave my iptables enabled, I will lose my Samba share connection after a few minutes. Of course, then iptables disabled, I have no problems. I am using Debian with Kernel 2.6.14-K7. Is this normal? Thank you in advance. :) -- "Ever watch ants just crawling around? They walk in

:( Orange Box? Please?
I've heard that it's possible to run Orange Box on WINE. I've tried several tutorials but can't get it to work - I got it all to install, and Steam pops up no problem, but the games crash at the loading screen and bring me back to my desktop. I even tried the original Half-Life - does the same thing. I tried using the command line to see if there would be any error or debug

Memdisk + Freedos problem
I and some other people have problems with running the freedos image included in Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD), when using memdisk for floppy emulation. Memdisk starts booting the image and freedos shows the following menu: 0 Boot Clean 1 Boot UMBPCI (silent) 2 Boot UMBPCI (optimal) 3 Boot UMBPCI (semi-defensive) 4 Boot EMM386 (optimal) 5 Boot EMM386 (semi-defensive) 6 Boot no UMB (defensive) 7 Boot

Dear Samba Developers, Dear Urban, This was my original letter. I hope you get it correctly this time. Maybe it was too big, now I reduced the size of this letter. 486 custom kernel
Hi all, Is it possible to take the 686 CentOS 5, install that in virtual machine, install a custom kernel that is the 486 flavor, take that image and put it on a 8G CF card - insert that into a small form factor 486 class machine and have that work? I am hoping the extra instructions in a 686 (MMX, SEE etc) are not used by any libraries that I would be using (just standard stuff) and the new

CPU spikes with wcfxs loaded
I need to reopen this discussion because it's impossible to run spandsp (and VoIP) under these circumstances. With zaptel unloaded, I see the following "vmstat 1" output: no swapping, an occasional disk output, +/- 1003 interrupts/sec., less than 10 context switches/sec., CPU idle 100%. A very quiet system. I load modules zaptel and wcfxo, and the system utilization stays the
